Lesson Topic: My Hero ! (Listening)
Time: 50 min
Lesson aims:
to look for specific information;
to introduce the process for answering multiple-choice questions
to practice listening for specific information
Materials: textbooks
Methods: conversation, explanation, example
Activity 1 : Warm-up
Aim: to lead-in the lesson reading about a French `spider-man`
Procedure: T asks Ss to look at the picture of Alain Robert and describe what is he
doing. T asks them: Would you like to do the same thing? Why do people do
dangerous things like these?
Ss skim the text looking for the answer to the question
T checks the answers with the whole class
Interaction: T-Ss/Ss-T
Timing: 5`
Activity 2: Listening
Aim: to identify what is being talked about in short listening extracts
Procedure: -After Ss have looked at topics a-e, T asks them to predict what they
are going to hear for each extract (who is talking, what they are talking about, any
key words or phrases they expect to hear)
-T plays the recording once, stopping after each extract, and ask Ss
what each extract is about, which key words or phrases helped them to identify
this.
Interaction: T-Ss, individual work
Timing: 10
Activity 3: Listening
Aim: to choose an answer from a list of three possible alternatives while listening

Procedure: -Before T plays the recording second time, T lets the students quickly
read through the questions an answer options. T reminds Ss to make a note of the
words or phrases that helped justify their answer while they are listening.
-T checks the answers with the whole class
Interaction: T.-Ss; individual work
Timing: 10
Activity 4: Speaking
Aim: to identify the man in the pictures and talk about him with reference to the
pictures
Procedure: T asks the Ss who is the man in the picture and gives information
where necessary: Do you know the man of the famous actor in the picture? What
happened to him?
T plays the recording once and asks Ss to tell as much as possible of
what they have learnt about Christopher Reeve.
T asks Ss about actors who have played superheroes in films (e.g.
both Michael Keaton and Val Kilmer have played Batman): Which in your opinion
made the best superhero? Why?

Timing: 10
Activity 5: Listening
Aim: to complete unfinished sentences with an appropriate word or expression
heard on a recording
Procedure: T asks Ss to read the sentences from ex 3/59 and predict what the
missing information might be
After Ss have predicted the missing information T plays the recording
again and lets them work in pairs to complete the sentences.
T tells them that they should use only one or two words for each
sentence
T checks the answers with the whole class
Interaction: pair work
Timing: 10
Activity 6: Assigning the homework
Procedure: Ss are asked to write about people who they most admire answering
the following questions: What they have done? Who are they? Why do you admire
them?
Timing: 3

Feedback and evaluation: T goes through the information learnt from the
listening activity one more time eliciting it from the Ss.
The T gives an evaluative feedback to the class, marking the Ss
who participated the most and those who have given good answers.
