AT&T, COUNCILOR JACKSON SPEAK TO LOCAL STUDENTS

ABOUT THE DANGERS OF DISTRACTED DRIVING
National It Can Wait program brought to Cathedral High School
BOSTON May 26, 2016 AT&T* was joined Monday afternoon by Boston City Councilor Tito
Jackson to bring the national distracted driving awareness program, It Can Wait, to Bostons
Cathedral High School.
Launched by AT&T in 2010, the It Can Wait campaign aims to raise awareness about the
dangers of texting while driving. Mondays demonstration at Cathedral High School included a
powerful documentary presented by AT&T and a driving simulation program that shows drivers
first-hand how quickly things can change when you take your eyes off the road.
At the conclusion of the event, the 60 11th-graders who were in attendance for the assembly
signed a Pledge Board as a sign of their commitment to always put their phones down while
driving.
Distracted driving is a crucial safety issue that affects each and every one of us every day,
Patricia Jacobs, president, AT&T New England said. We were thrilled to speak with Cathedral
High Schools impressive young students and encouraged to see so many of them take the
pledge to never text, email, selfie or even glance at their phones while their cars are in motion.
Since AT&T launched the It Can Wait campaign in 2010, nearly 8 million people across the
country have taken the pledge to never text and drive.
As far as Im concerned, there is nothing more important than safety and well-being and even
glancing at your phone while behind the wheel puts that safety in jeopardy, said Boston City
Council Tito Jackson. I applaud AT&T for its efforts to combat the dangerous trend of distracted

driving, and I urge all drivers to follow Cathedral High Schools students lead and take the
pledge to never text and drive.
I want to thank Councilor Tito Jackson and AT&T for educating our Cathedral Students on the
dangers of texting while driving, said Cathedral High School Principal Dr. Helenann Civian.
The program was very powerful, and I was happy to see so many students take the pledge.
