MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS
(Recorded during past 24 hours)

Heat wave conditions are prevailing over isolated pockets of Telangana, Vidarbha, north Madhya Pradesh, east
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh.

The highest maximum temperature of 47.1°C was recorded at Bramhapuri (Maharashtra).

Synoptic features (based on 0530 hrs IST)


The trough from southwest Jharkhand to northeast Assam across Gangetic West Bengal, Bangladesh and
Meghalaya at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

Another trough from east Madhya Pradesh to south Tamilnadu across Vidarbha, Marathwada and Karnataka in
lower levels persists.

The western disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining north Pakistan as an upper air system is moving
away eastward.
Numerical weather prediction (NWP) Guidance
The western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region during next 24 hours.
A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from tomorrow onwards.
Satellite Observations:
KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 0530 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of north Andhra Pradesh ,
southeast Bay of Bengal and south Andaman Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of Western
Himalayan region, east India, northeastern states and remaining parts of peninsular India.
Major features of weather forecast (upto 0530 hours IST of 18th May, 2010)
Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh and
scattered over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Jammu & Kashmir during next 24 hours and increase
thereafter.

Isolated rain/thundershowers would occur over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.


Isolated duststorm/thunderstorms may occur over Haryana and Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours.
Isolated rain/thundershowers may occur over East Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha during next 24 hours.
Isolated rain/thundershowers may occur over West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and
Orissa.

Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Kerala, coastal & south interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep
and isolated over Andhra Pradesh, North Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu.

No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over central, east and plains of northwest India.
Warning
Thundersqualls would occur at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West
Bengal & Sikkim, northeastern States, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Orissa during next 48 hours.
Isolated heavy rain/thundershowers would occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya during next
48 hours.
Weather Outlook (upto 0530 hours IST of 20th May, 2010)

Fairly widespread rainfall activity would occur over northeastern States.


Scattered rain/thundershowers activity would occur over western Himalayan region.
