SCHUMANN, LISZT AND CHOPIN AT THE MULTICULTURAL CENTRE

PIANO RECITAL
BY BOTOND SZCS

On 19 April the university's Multicultural Centre was the locale of a recital by young
pianist Botond Szcs, second year student at the Faculty of Music. Coached by Dr Stela Drgulin
since 2011, Botond has gradually made a name for himself by winning many national and
international contests in Braov, Trgu-Mure, Rmnicu-Vlcea, Bucharest, London, etc. - as
either soloist or with symphonic orchestras. This recital included pieces such as Schumann's
Humoresca, The Spanish Rhapsody by Liszt and Chopin's Preludes.
His virtuoso performance, the accuracy of details, the finesse in capturing the spirit of
the original works, and the artful combination of different musical styles testified to an
increasingly developing talent build on a sound academic foundation.
Witnessing his performance was tantamount to witnessing the rise of a star: years later,
we, students at the Faculty of Music, will be able to say Botond Szcs was our colleague!.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT COMPETITION: FORESTRY VERSATILITY

A team of fourth year students representing the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest
Engineering took part in Forestry Versatility, an international student competition held in Brno
(Czech Republic) between 12 and 15 April. Consisting of Ancua Margalinescu, Avram Cica, Petre
Forogu and Iustin Giosanu, the team came in second, while Petre Forogu won another second
prize individually.
The three-day long contest involved forestry students from all the reputed universities in
Europe. The contestants went through a variety of tests, such as identification of species, precision
cutting, determining tree volume, shooting, etc. These top positions are consistent with the
outstanding results that our students obtain in professional international competitions.

THE INTEGRAL OF BEETHOVEN'S SONATAS FOR VIOLIN AND PIANO

THE MULTICULTURAL
CENTRE HOSTS
REMARKABLE PROJECT

On the 6 April, the Multicultural Centre of our university played host to the first concert in the
series entitled The integral of Beethoven's sonatas for violin and piano. The event is part of a project
initiated by two exceptional artists, Peter Rosenberg, concertmaster in the symphonic orchestra of
Bamberg, and Botond Szcs, pianist and 2nd year student at the Faculty of Music, the class of Dr Stela
Drgulin.
The recital was infused with the intensity of artistic emotions and interpretative virtuosity. To
the finest note, the artists rendered three of Beethoven's sonatas: the Sonata for Piano and Violin
No.1, the Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 5 (The Spring Sonata), and the Sonata for Piano and Violin
No. 9 (the Kreutzer Sonata).
To make music sound and resound in this particular manner, one needs to put in talent,
dedication and artistry, a fact reconfirmed by pianist Botond Szcs: It's a question of life and death
on stage: you must give your very best.
The concert invited the participation of professional and amateur music buffs, all
interconnected by this wonderful melodic string. From the first to the last note, the audience was
captured by the young artists' performance, whose virtuosity represents a promise for further events
to deliver the same exceptional musical quality.

students for students. Its main target is to gather
and challenge, project-wise, the most talented
Engineering students in Europe.
EBEC follows a three-stage pyramidal structure, on a year-round basis: 88
locals in 32 European countries; 15 nationals and regionals; and a final.
The D.A.K.O. Team consisted of Kinga Kristo, Ovidiu-Traian Barboni,
Constantin-Adrian Geiu and Ctlin-Neculaie Neculoiu, 3rd year students at the
Faculty of Technological Engineering and Industrial Management, winners in the locals (in Braov, November 2015, in the Case Study
category). Their top ranking qualified them for participation in the regionals in Cluj-Napoca, between 21-24 of April this year.
Meeting in a professional and imaginative manner a variety of challenges devised by the organizers, our team came in third
among the 80 competitors in the CASE STUDY category. This result is all the more commendable in light of the fact that our students
were first time participants in an event of such magnitude.

DEVELOPING TEACHING SKILLS AN EVALUATION

OF YOUNG ACADEMICS
The second edition of the workshop Developing Teaching Skills An
Evaluation of Young Academics took place between 4 and 6 April. Initiated by
Dr Ana-Maria Cazan, Dr Ramona Henter and Dr Camelia Trua from the Faculty
of Psychology and Education Sciences, the event comes in response to the
FIDES ET EXCELLENTIA
growing interest towards improving the teaching activity and the relationship with
students. Relevant particularly to the young staff, the workshop represented an
opportunity for academics to exchange ideas on methods and techniques applied to
THE 2nd EDITION OF
specific student groups.
THE WORKSHOP
The 29 attendees from 12 faculties focused on the following topics: accommodating
1st year students to academic requirements, strategies for curricular design, students'
learning strategies. In order to facilitate communication and information access, a course in
Moodle format was also designed on the e-learning platform. As the course includes
presentations, educational resources and proposals for further research, the participants are
encouraged to also post and share materials. The participants in the workshop further
debated on the use of teaching methods that foster students' autonomy (e.g. Web-Quest),
identifying methods of improving the teacher-student relationship, finding ways to increase
students' interest in course activities, tailored teaching, etc.
We trust that the usefulness of this workshop and the desire of the staff to keep
abreast of the latest trends in teaching are strong enough reasons to justify running such workshop on a regular basis.

A CITY AUTONOMOUS
year.
COURIER
This year, 16 student teams from the universities of Bucharest, Braov, Craiova and TrguMure took part in the Continental Technical Competition 2016. Design & implement a city
autonomous courier held on 21 and 22 April at the headquarters of Continental Sibiu. Transilvania
University was represented by BMobile team manned by Romeo Horeang IVth year, Robotics and
Mecatronics, Vlad-Petru Tittes Gherman IIIrd year, Automatics and Applied Computer Science and
George Dngeanu IVth year, Robotics and Mecatronics. This year's topic was considerably more
complex than before, and it related to the very current concept of autonomous ground vehicles. The
task set by the organizers was creating an autonomous robot for the delivery of three differently
shaped parts.
The program included visits to the research and production sectors of Continental Sibiu, the
presentation and technical analysis of the participant teams' robots, discussions on technical solutions for autovehicle sub-ensembles
and a very interesting socio-cultural program: a visit to Thalia Hall and other cultural landmarks of the city of Sibiu.
The ingenious solution put forward by our students did not go unnoticed by both organizers and competitors, as shown by the
numerous details the authors were requested to give during the robot technical analysis session. The difficulty of the trials and the
novelty of the route suggested by the organizers caused several teams to drop out the contest before its end. Our robot met the
standards set by the organizers, which qualified our team as winners, sharing an ex-aequo award with other teams with equally good
results.

INNOVATIVE RECRUITING THROUGH BOARD GAMES

This spring added new members to the PRIME Braov team. Starting from the premise that
THE SPRING OF
recruiting
is a science as well as an art, our team posted on the social networks a recruiting video
2016 AT PRIME BRAOV

telling ambitious young people what PRIME Braov does and what opportunities it offers for
personal and professional growth. This was followed by the actual recruiting, an innovative process,
just like our organization, built around the concept of Board Games.
The future members relaxed while playing various interactive games, some meant to help
them get to know each other, others aimed at testing their PR abilities and knowledge. The first
activity was simple: the participants introduced themselves and then they answered two questions
asked by another participant.
The second game was a personalized board game, created by PRIME Braov especially for the
applicants involved in this recruiting process. The players answered questions from various fields,
such as social media, fundraising, graphic design or human resources.
At the end of the recruiting session, three teams were formed. They received the task of
organizing an event, observing the requirements set by members of PRIME Braov. At the end of the recruiting process, PRIME Braov
took new, resourceful members on board. We are happy with these results, and we are looking forward to pass our values on to our new
colleagues.

interesting and eventful careers. Two former
presidents of PRIME Braov and graduates of the
Communication and Public Relations program,
Ioana Moaa, Junior PR Officer at Publicis Romania,
and Octavian Aftanas, Social Media Executive at Leo Burnett Romania, as well as a
graduate in journalism, Raluca Cojocaru from Publicis, shared with us they ways in
which they managed to turn their passion for communication into a successful
career, offering very useful tips about the tricks of the trade.
The three speakers presented the projects most dear to them, the experiences that led them to the results and confessed that it
was natural to make mistakes, and that any mistake could be undone. We have learnt that our bosses might not always agree with our
ideas and that we should accept the advice we receive. I am the person who would ask the most stupid questions!, said Ioana,
encouraging us to be interested in what happens around us, while Raluca stated that experience is the best trainer and that, loving
one's job means to regarding it as an obligation.
Our three guests were unanimous in advising us to believe in ourselves, to ask questions, to strive to learn more, to keep up with
the news, and to maintain the best relationships with the people around us.

Engineering. Members of the faculty teaching staff presented the career opportunities
available to students throughout their study years, as well as after they graduate.
At the same time, on 21 and 22 April, we organized workshops which reflected the
interests of each of our faculty's study programs, in which the students participated in
activities meant to help them discover what they wish to study: Designer for a day;
Renewable energies a reality; Water. How clean is the water we use?; Garbage, waste or raw
material?; Let's explore tomorrow's world!; Let's see the world better!; Learning how the
human brain works can exceed the limits of the Universe.
The involvement of high school students in the workshop activities was rewarded
with certificates of participation. Around 180 students answered our invitation, accompanied
by their teachers, from high schools in Braov, Cmpina, Trgovite and ntorsura Buzului. Operating on the premise that It's choice not chance - that determines your destiny (F. D. Roosevelt), we believe that these activities helped students find out more about us and
also make informed decisions about their future.

SOCIAL REINTEGRATION OF DELINQUENT CHILDREN

On 14 April, the third year students of the
Social Work program went on a study visit to the
Saint Stelian Centre in Ghimbav. Led by Dr
Marinela imon, the visit was related to the
course Assistance for people with deviant
behaviours. The residents of this centre are minors with no criminal liability who
committed a crime. The aim of the visit was to enhance students' knowledge and
understanding of the role played by the social worker and other professionals in this
type of institution.
The social worker, the legal adviser and the psychologist presented their
roles within the residential centre, they talked about the importance of team work, the job challenges, the day to day difficulties and the
way they manage to achieve their objectives despite multiple obstacles. The main role of the social worker is to maintain the
relationship between minors and their families and communities, and to support their social integration. The legal adviser aims to raise
the minors' awareness to the consequences of their actions, while the psychologist accompanies the minors to court and organizes
various activities both inside and outside the centre.
This experience showed students that the profession of social worker is challenging, and how dedication and active
involvement are indispensable in order to obtain good results. Although the specialists might not receive full recognition for their work,
they should not forget the purpose of their profession and should make every effort to offer these children another chance.

new work complements and continues in both topic and style the dramatist's previous plays. In his
talk, Dr Dan Botezatu highlighted the connection between the feeling of bitterness and the
omnipresence of suicide. It is the violent and punctual act of suicide set against an ironic depiction of
routine-based existence that camps Ignat's plays at the interface between drama and comedy,
percolating through his entire theatrical work.
The brief address by the author himself was followed by a theatrical cold reading brilliantly
performed by actors Mihaela Alexandru and Marius Cordo.

EVENINGS AT THE
FACULTY OF LETTERS

THE 13th NATIONAL CONGRESS OF THE STUDENTS

IN COMMUNICATION
Am
btut internetul cteva zile pentru a afla i ne-am fcut fiecare cte o idee proprie
PHYGITAL
de tehnologie i avantajele sale.
Trebuie s porneti
de la un adevr uman, de la o poveste, de la o nevoie.
