INTRODUCTION OF SYNOPSIS
CEMENT INDUSTRY
Sector structure/Market size
India is the world's second largest producer of cement with total capacity of
260 million tonnes (MT) as on April 30, 2013, according to the Cement
Manufactures Association. During May 2013, the cement production
touched 14.50 MT as compared to 13.28 MT in May 2011. The cement
dispatches quantity was 14.21 MT in May 2013 over 13.06 MT in the
corresponding month in May 2011.
Future Trends

The cement industry is expected to grow steadily in 2013- and

increase capacity by another 50 million tons in spite of the recession
and decrease in demand from the housing sector.

The industry experts project the sector to grow by 9 to 10% for the
current financial year provided India's GDP grows at 7%.
2

India ranks second in cement production after China.

The major Indian cement companies are Associated Cement Company

Ltd (ACC), J.K Cement Ltd, Grasim Industries Ltd, Ambuja Cements
Ltd, Birla Cement

The major players have all made investments to increase the

production capacity in the past few months, heralding a positive
outlook for the industry.

The housing sector accounts for 50% of the demand for cement and this
trend is expected to continue in the near future.
The cement industry in India is dominated by around 20 companies, which
account for almost 70% of the total cement production in India. In the
present year, the Indian cement companies have produced 11 MT cement
during April-September 2011. It took the total cement production in
Financial Year 2010 to 231 MT.

data which was important for my project could not be available.

Many times the officials were so busy that they could not answer the
queries related to the topic.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Methods of Data Collection
Data collection is an elaborate process in which the researcher makes a
planned search for all relevant data and is the foundation of all researches.
It is the raw material with which a researcher functions. The task of data
collection begins after a research problem has been defined and research
plan is chalked out. While deciding about the method of data collection to be
used for the study the researcher should keep in mind two types of data viz.,
primary data and secondary data.
Sources of Data
A.

Secondary data:

Secondary data is the data already collected by others for purposes other
than solution of the problem at hand. In case of Secondary data the nature

of data collection work is merely that of compilation. Secondary data has

several supplementary uses.
1.

Internal sources:

Company Records.

Service Reports.

Annual Report.

Company Brochure.

Company Library.

2. External sources

Web pages of organizations and journals.

Reference Books.

Magazines.

Newspapers.

B.

Primary data:

The data that is being collected for the first time or to particularly fulfill the
objectives of the project are known as primary data. In my study work,
stratified simple random sampling was the method of Data Collection.
SAMPLE DESIGN

A sample design is a definite plan for obtaining a sample from a given

population. It refers to the technique or the procedure the researcher would
adopt in selecting item for the sample
Generally Sample designs are two types
5

1. PROBABILITY RESEARCH DESIGN

2. NON PROBABILITY RESEARCH DESIGN
We used the probability research design.
SAMPLING UNITS
Filling The sample is selected in a random way, irrespective of them being
investor or not or availing the services or not. It was collected through mails
and personal visits to the known persons, by formal and informal talks and
through up the questionnaire prepared.
SIZE OF SAMPLE
This refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe to
constitute a sample
The sample size in this project is 100.

LIMITATIONS ARE AS FOLLOWS

Data collected is based on questionnaire.

The number of employees in Angel Broking is more, so sample size is

limited.

The information collected by the observation method is very limited.

The result would be varying according to the individuals as well as

time.

Some respondents hesitated to give the actual situation; they feared

that management would take any action against them

The findings and conclusions are based on knowledge and experience of the
respondents sometime may subject to bias.
