This Specification defines maximum nozzle loads applied by piping to mechanical equipment
connections related to onshore. Such equipment must therefore be designed to withstand these
loads.
The Specification shall apply where piping connects to nozzles equipment or to edge skid in
Package Unit.
Nozzle loads defined in this specification shall apply to all nozzles connected to piping; therefore
man-ways and instrument nozzle connections are not to be considered.

REFERENCES
Were applicable, nozzle loading shall be in accordance with the requirements specified in the last
edition of codes and standards listed below:

All loads stated above act at the tank plate / nozzle intersection and are to be assumed to act
simultaneously.
The Tank Supplier shall provide sufficient local reinforcement to ensure that stress due to pressure
head, radial load and applied moment does not exceed 1.5 times the allowable design stress for
the plate.

FIRED HEATERS
Allowable loads applied to Fired Heater terminals shall be in accordance with the values given in
TABLE1.
If not possible, they shall be limited to those given in table 7 of API 560 and agreed with the
Mechanical Department.

4.9

OTHER EQUIPMENT

Mechanical Department.

PACKAGED UNITS

FOR-22-2

The following procedures shall be adopted where piping is connected to packaged units
a)

If connected directly to equipment listed in section 4 the nozzle loads shall be in accordance
with Section 4.

b)

If the piping is connected to equipment other than that specified in Section 4 or to a nozzle
anchored at the edge of the skid, the loads listed in TABLE 1 shall be used.

c)

Where physical constraints do not permit anchoring, the interface nozzle, at the skid edge,
shall be supported and guided as necessary within the package such that the interface
nozzle will accept the loads listed in TABLE 1. The Supplier shall provide thermal expansion
movements at the interface nozzle.

P is the axial force on nozzle line centre
TL and TC are the shear forces (Longitudinal and Circumferential on the shell of the vessel)
MT is the Torsion moment on nozzle line centre
ML and MC are the bending moments (Longitudinal and Circumferential on the shell of the vessel)
Values are to be considered as simultaneously acting.
CORRECTIVE FACTORS
Allowable loads as given are valid for a vessel having 10 mm shell thickness t and 1000 mm
shell radius R. A corrective factor has to be considered for different values of t and R.

Allowable loads as given are valid for a carbon steel vessel. A corrective factor has to be
considered for different materials:
Factor KM = 1.00
