Opening Thoughts:
Picture yourself waking up one morning in a great, positive, ambitious mood. You
feel so inspired that you decide that you want to go sailing:
You get excited by the idea of expanding your horizon, navigating the oceans, experiencing the vastness and wonders of the seas Youre so fired up, you just cant wait
to get going!
So the first thing you do, is go out and buy the best boat there is.
And then you think:
Okay, now Ive got the best boat So my next course of action is to learn how to sail
it. Ive got to know how to raise the mast and how to harness the wind. Ive got to get
myself the best clothes and the best gear that can handle any potential impact of the
weather.
So you compile all your resources. And once youve pulled all your stuff together, you
stand on the dock next to me, and you say:
Okay man, this is it, Im ready to sail!
You hop onto your boat, and you head out into the water. Youve got the wind with
you.
You get further out, maybe three miles. Everything is going great! You go ahead, ten
miles, perhaps even thirty miles off shore. Youre sailing with ease, and it all feels so
good!
And then, all of a sudden, right when youre at the peak of your experience, you feel
this jolt from behind you
Its a terrible shock. The boat snaps in half, and it begins to sink
What the heck?! Ive got the best boat there is I paid the best people to help me
design the best looking gear. Oh my goodness, Ive got the best mast, the best sails
I know how to handle the wind, so that cant be it What the hell happened?!
And as youre flailing around and choke on the water thats filling up your lungs, you
look back and you notice:
You never untied the boat from the dock
And it ripped the boat in half

Make no mistake:
What youre about to learn is potentially mind-blowing.
But before you begin to absorb the rest of this study guide, make sure youve watched the Cracking
Crux-video it comes with. Because this report will use what was covered in the video as a starting
point to take things up a notch and delve deeper into the matter at hand, which is the question of:

This manual provides the answer by shining a light on the very blind spot that may have kept you
from experiencing the big breakthroughs youve been after time and time again.
Big words, I know
I mean, you probably came across a whole bunch of different experts in the past few months alone
who all suggested theyre the exclusive keepers of the alleged one missing secret. Theres always
one more golden nugget or deeper law that nobody supposedly knew about before.
And here I am implying something similar
Well, the truth is a little different. And this manual doesnt so much give you a missing secret, but
rather a different angle from which to look at yourself and pursue the most effective and rewarding
route to make the changes in your life youre after (<-- for which you can even use techniques you
may have already tried in the past, this time with new awareness and increased effectiveness).
In short, heres what youll get from this study guide:
Youll discover whats quite likely to be the very underlying reason why were often left with
little results from all our (many) efforts to make good and lasting changes in our lives, wondering
why so many approaches weve tried always turn out pretty much ineffective, or at least merely
work on a somewhat random, hit-or-miss basis.
Youll also see how the new understanding youre about to gain actually enables you to get the
results you want after all (<-- even if thats by using techniques that seem to have failed before),
because youll better and more completely understand how our subconscious minds really
work (<-- which is probably a bit unlike youve been led to believe).
Also, youll learn that all it takes to finally elicit notable and lasting results is a mere slight adjustment in focus, through awareness of an apparently small thing that we may have overlooked
before (<-- that may nevertheless enable us to easily instigate major shifts in our fundamental
orientation in life, and thus on the reality we create and experience as was explained in our
previous Session 2).
And best of all: youll see that once you do know all about this blind spot, entirely new perspective dawns, our outlook on life changes, and well be able to define a fresh, systematic, step-bystep approach to finally crack our eggs and break free once and for all.
Please Note:
Of course, Im not delusional Im sure youre not just going to take my word for it,
particularly because:
At first, the insight were about to gain may seem to challenge our existing understanding
about the subconscious mind.
As such, it may appear to be in conflict with our conditioned view and expectations of
how transformational techniques should work
But honestly, that would be a real shame, because the potential empowering effect of what youre
about to learn on your ability to finally elicit the kinds of shifts you long for is absolutely huge!
So in order to make sure youll give this new way of looking at things an honest chance,
and to prevent your shutting down in the face of potentially paradigm-challenging
informa-tion, heres something to keep in mind as you go through this study guide:
First of all, make sure you read the entire thing and dont skip ahead.
The next few chapters are designed to explain as clearly as possible our new manner of
understanding the ways of our subconscious minds and the method of operation of the
egg, so that we can:
Really get it
See through its subtle ways to sustain itself
Step up our game from self help (<-- or rather shelf help, which would be a more
accurate term to describe the way most programs are used) to bona fide self-actualization and self-mastery.
This also means that the first parts of this study guide may include things we already
know. Thats on purpose, as this information is meant to be understandable to anyone,
even those without a lot of prior knowledge on the subject. So bear with me if at first this
guide appears to merely point out whats already blatantly obvious to you:
Theres a carefully thought-out build-up to its story. And just following its flow will really
help you deeply dig its essence. So stick with it. I promise the understanding and insight
it all leads into can be truly profound and extremely liberating.
And secondly, make sure you realize that the aim of this study guide is not to degrade existing methods and experts or to be different for the mere sake of it, but
rather to expand our paradigm and understanding.
As youll see, this manual is written from an integrative mentality, not a pigheaded or
rebellious one.
CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3 | vii
In fact, once you really get the concept that this manual is about to explain to you, youll
understand that the more expansive insights youll gain actually dont challenge the value
of existing techniques, much less render them obsolete or worthless.
Instead, it offers you the opportunity to use them in new ways and get much more out of
them than you may have gotten so far.
(Of course Ill also be offering various new techniques and protocols myself, should you
be interested in those. But these wont render others useless. In fact they can often be put
together in mutually reinforcing and synergistic conglomerations.)
So all in all: what youre about to learn is truly remarkable, and yet potentially challenging to
accept at first. So as you go through this study guide and get ready to discover what it is, I urge
you to keep an open mind.
In the words of T.H. Huxley:
Sit down before fact like a little child, and be prepared to give up every preconceived notion,
follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss Nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.
So lets go!
Introduction:
Is It Me, Or Do Current
Methods Just Not Work?!
Let me tell you a quick story
A while back I did a survey that gave me some clear revelations with regard to peoples experience
in the self help-marketplace. You might be able to relate to this. Heres one of the questions I
asked:
What is your biggest frustration in applying information on personal development subjects like
changing your subconscious programming, the Law of Attraction, achieving your goals, etc.?
To be honest, the response was pretty overwhelming. And it was like I opened a cesspit. The answers
I received were charged with quite a bit of anger and frustration (<-- which of course wasnt that big
a surprise, as I explicitly asked for peoples biggest frustration but it did leave a somewhat unsettling impression of the average state of affairs).
As youll recall, the Cracking Crux-video showed an email by a guy called Robert Simmons that
provided a nice summary of the overall gist of most of the answers I received, which were pretty
much all along the following lines:

seems to work or in case you do get any results to begin with, theyre usually random,
mediocre, and/or temporary.
But there were also some other people who told me about a different feeling they had:
In outlining their biggest frustration, they drew me the following scenario that you may or may not
be able to relate to:
With all these testimonials, Im starting to think that Im stupid and that theres something
inherently wrong with me, because I can never get any of this stuff to work for me!
To be honest, that really struck me I never realized that testimonials could have such a
debilitating effect. So before we get started, let me get one thing out of the way:
Sure In the end, if nothing seems to work for you, in some way it is you I mean, there must
still be something inside you, probably beyond your conscious awareness, that keeps holding
you back, no matter what method youve been trying to make improvements.
But theres nothing I repeat: absolutely nothing inherently wrong with you! In helping myself
and many others, Ive discovered that anyone can find an approach that works for them, if only
they become aware of what seems to be a little-known concept that this report emphasizes.
Once you understand this principle, youll be able to define a systematic approach towards taking
out whatever it is thats holding you back, as opposed to using some random, hit-or-miss strategy
thatll give you some hard-to-replicate lucky hits at best
Youll even be able to include methods you already know in this approach, because now there will be
a system behind what you do; itll no longer be arbitrary.
The key lies in understanding how we really function subconsciously. And thats generally a little
different compared to what weve been led to believe.
Let me explain
Please Note:
While the descriptions that follow can open and expand your mind to an entirely new sense of
possibility and inspiration, complete intellectual understanding of the mechanisms discussed
is not a requirement.
So in case the upcoming explanations come across as a little too complicated to your liking,
rest assured knowing that its ultimate application (<-- which is what well get into later on)
is simple and straightforward.
Chapter 1:
Prevailing Views On
Subconscious Programming
Of course, as our previous sessions have illustrated beyond any reasonable doubt, making changes
in our subconscious programming is crucial if we want to instigate significant shifts in our life experience and sense of happiness, success, empowerment and fulfillment.
After all, while most people think that theyre in full conscious control of their thoughts, attitudes,
decisions and actions, the truth is that the great majority of information processing and decision
making takes place at the subconscious level, based on our ingrained, fundamental, implicit orientation on which we build our beliefs, concepts, values, worldviews, intentions, hopes, dreams, etc.
Session 2 made that abundantly clear. But in case that wasnt enough for you to accept this notion,
consider this illustrative experiment: 1
Benjamin Libet and Betram Feinstein, two neurophysiologists at Mount Zion Hospital in San
Fransisco, did an experiment in which they asked people to press a button as soon as they felt
they were touched.
The outcome was as follows:
The brain turned out to react to the touch in 0.0001 seconds, while it took people 0.1 seconds
to actually push the button.
But heres what was remarkable about the research:
The patients didnt report being consciously aware of either the stimulus (the touch) or
pressing the button for almost 0.5 seconds!
Let me tell you what this means:
It implies that decision to respond to the touch was made by the subconscious mind. None of the
patients tested by Libet and Feinstein were aware that their unconscious minds had already
caused them to push the button before they had consciously decided to do so!
Somehow their brains were creating the comforting delusion that they had consciously
controlled the action, even though they hadnt.
Later studies have shown that 1.5 seconds before we decide to contract one of our muscles
(for example when were lifting a finger) the brain has already started to generate the signals
necessary to make the movement.
Thats pretty mind-blowing, isnt it? Just in case it wasnt clear already, heres what this study
illustrates:
1
Libet, B., Wright Jr., Elwood W., Feinstein, B. and. D.K. Pearl (1979), Subjective Referral of the Timing for a Conscious
Sensory Experience - A Functional Role for the Somatosensory Specific Projection System in Man, Brain, Vol. 102, pp.
193-224.
In reality, its our subconscious mind that drives (the great majority) of our conscious thoughts,
feelings and actions.
Then after the act, the brain makes us think that it was indeed us who made the actual decision
to act, while in truth it was really a purely automatic, unconscious process.
In other words: while we may think were in control and have total free will, its our subconscious
programming thats really calling the great majority of our shots!
As a result of this awareness, pretty much all mainstream personal development approaches and
techniques rightfully intend to help us manipulate our subconscious method of operation in a way
thats supposed to help us change, overwrite, and/or replace our existing belief structures and
patterns.
And indeed, all these methods can (more or less) have their place in the grander scheme of the
process.
However, as well learn in the next few sections, most of these approaches are based on a limited
understanding of how we really function subconsciously. Thats the reason why we usually:
Merely get mediocre results that can hardly be qualified as pivot points on which our true sense
of happiness, success and fulfillment in life hinge (<-- like attracting nice restaurant tables and
parking spots)
Or only get temporary results (<-- varying from mediocre to indeed notable) that dont seem to
last
Driving a car;
Riding a bike;
Reading.
The information perceived by our five senses (<-- i.e. what we hear, see, taste, touch, and smell),
which includes the messages that are explicitly and implicitly communicated by other people,
the media, societal/cultural norms, etc. that as such contribute to forming a certain worldviews
and expecations.
2.
The information we deliberately impose on ourselves through our conscious, free will instructtion to do certain things (<-- for instance, practice playing a musical instrument, condition a
particular movement or technique in light of a sport, drive the same route to work every day,
write by hand, ride a bike, etc.), all of which eventually turn into automatisms that hardly
require any conscious though to perform.
This concept also has us mindlessly perform habits of which we dont even know the
actual reason we do them. Theres an old wives tale that nicely captures this principle:
6 | CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3
This concept also has us mindlessly perform habits of which we dont even know the
actual reason we do them. Theres an old wives tale that nicely captures this principle:
A young daughter asked her mother why she always cut the ends of the roast before putting it
into the oven: Well, thats the way Grandma taught me, Mother replied.
Mother then passed the question on to the girls grandma: Thats just the way my mother used
to make them, Grandma replied, and the next time she saw Great-grandma, she asked her the
same question.
Great-grandma laughed, shook her head, and answered: That danged oven was so small, you
couldnt fit a thing in there. Cutting the ends off the roast was the only way to make it fit.
All in all, the basic premise is simple:
Repetition of input creates habitual patterns in our subconscious mind.
Think of the laboratory rat whos trained to take a certain route in a maze, by giving
him a bad feeling by means of an electroshock every time he goes the wrong way.
Pretty soon hell avoid the directions that he knows would lead to getting zapped.
Or as another example (somewhat crazy just to get the point across), lets say Im
walking down the street and I feel a giant need to do my needs. Now lets assume
I decide to do it in the middle of the street in clear view of a crowd of people:
You bet that Ill run into negative social feedback, as a consequence of which Ill
experience an emotional arousal that feels very uncomfortable. This intense
feeling causes me to form an intense bad memory.
As such, through the underlying process of habituation, repetition of emotional charges can instill
automatic subconscious patterns for particular types of behavior. In general:
Repeated uncomfortable emotions as a result of certain behavior (or thought) will lead to automatic subconscious patterns that are setup to avoid the punishment of the uncomfortable
emotion.
Repeated comfortable emotions as a result of certain behavior (or thought) will lead to automatic subconscious patterns that are setup to seek and repeat the reward of the enjoyable
emotion.
Please Note:
The explanations above are basic ones that merely get the main point across, because
things arent always as straightforward as comfortable = good and uncomfortable =
bad. For example:
Indeed, we can experience highly significant positive emotional arousal that feels pleasurable and that indeed may result in genuinely constructive patterning that supports
becoming our best selves and getting into a flow of continuous growth, empowerment
and fulfillment. (<-- For instance, our efforts pay off and we reach our goals, which goes
along with pleasurable emotions.)
While thats obviously a good thing, that doesnt mean that pleasurable emotion always is.
For example, an enjoyable emotional experience can also be induced by things that arent
good for us in the long run, such as addictive drugs. In this case, even though the source
experience feels gratifying, repeating it consistently still results in self-sabotaging and
potentially destructive programming (i.e. addiction and dependence).
Also, for deeper reasons well get into later, some people may deliberately evoke negative emotions in themselves because they feel an underlying urge to punish themselves,
or because doing so comes with secondary gain (<-- such as attention from other people
that they would otherwise lack).
So in this case theyll repeat behavior while theres an uncomfortable feeling attached to it
(although in this case it might actually be the secondary gain that ultimately drives the
repetition through its comfortable boost).
Anyway, in such cases, there are deeper, more fundamental imbalances in play. This is
something well get into more deeply as we progress in this manual.
So as such, emotional charge (comfortable or uncomfortable) puts up an incentive to create automatic, subconscious patterns that are setup to either avoid or repeat whatever caused it.
The more often the emotional surge repeats itself (and/or the higher the intensity), the faster and
more deeply our subconscious mind will ingrain such patterns.
Emotional charge and input information can also come attached to each other, thus combining
forces in a way thatll aggregate into a very strong stimulus to our subconscious mind. For example:
Certain people might command us into certain behavior and simultaneously attach fear to it by
means of threats of discomforting consequences in case we dont comply.
If the resulting impetus is strong enough, it can cause automatic patterns of thought, feeling and
behavior that are likely to remain even when the folks who originally gave the commands and
instilled the fear are no longer around.
In other words, we may still keep a habit, despite the current absence of whom or what caused
the emotion that originally urged us to obey.
Similarly, certain people might impose belief systems on us and (deliberately or inadvertently)
induce fear and/or guilt in us if we refuse to take them on. For instance:
We may feel a strong sense of guilt for having different convictions than our parents,
because we suspect theyd think we dont show enough love or respect for them by going a
different way.
Regardless of whether thats even the case, if the feeling is strong enough we may stick to
such patterns (<-- e.g. we keep engaging in our parents rituals) even after theyve long
passed away and it wasnt originally our own choice to do so.
Or we might fear hell and damnation for no longer subscribing to the religious convictions
that were imposed on us when we were still kids.
And so we may meekly acquiesce and stubbornly stick to them, even if on a core level we
dont agree and/or even fully realize they keep us from being our highest selves and from
actualizing our true capabilities.
These are just some random examples, but there are many ways in which emotions can keep us
attached to certain belief systems and other ingrained patterns.
As such, emotions act as the superglue that can keep such structures in place (<-- or in other words,
as the bungee cables that keep us attached to our apparently unmovable convictions, as it was
depicted in the video of Session 2).

Why?
Why?
Because by then the sound no longer makes up a change in our environment. Instead, it
Because after a while, the sound no longer makes up a change in your environment. Instead, it

so it deletes the humming from of our conscious awareness so that we dont actually
Theyre not used to it, so they do become alert to it until they get used to it after a while,
and their subconscious mind starts to filter it out.
The reverse may apply as well: if we go visit the relative or friend in their quiet, rural area,
while were used to living in a more noisy environment with planes flying over and trains
running by all the time, we may have a hard time catching sleep because its so quiet (as a
result of which well be alert to different sounds that we normally never hear).
So deleting is one way in which our subconscious mind filters information from our conscious
awareness. Other ways in which this process of filtering takes place are:
Generalizing information (<-- i.e. processing and classifying it into general and familiar
categories);
Distorting information (<-- i.e. creating your own private world of understanding by matching
new incoming information to our expectations and preconceived notions).
Weve gone over these processes in far more detail in the previous two sessions, so Ill leave it at this
for now, assuming you probably have a pretty clear idea about this. If not, make sure you go through
the previous sessions to get a clear grasp on this concept. As you know, that information is available
Please Note:
to you for free.
Weve gone over these processes in far more detail in the previous two sessions, so in case
youd like to explore more details, make sure you go through those to get a clear grasp on how
the unconscious process of filtering greatly contributes to creating our (perception of)
reality.
All in all, the basic operating process of filtering is normal and natural, and has a very useful
purpose:
Our subconscious minds filter the tidal wave of information that our senses receive, because we
can only handle so much at a time on the conscious level.
As a result, what remains is a conscious perception of reality that has been shaped and molded
to make sense to us according to our ingrained worldview.
This ensures that were able to function well and perform efficiently in an environment that
practically overwhelms us with stimuli.
However and this is the point of this section this process may also have us inadvertently and
unconsciously reinforce subconscious patterns that have already been installed without us even
realizing it. This happens in two ways:
1.
Confirmation bias:
As you know, filtering occurs to a significant degree based on already ingrained subconscious
patterns (<-- such as belief systems, convictions and associated expectations).
This often leads to confirmation bias, which is a tendency to favor information that confirms our
preconceptions, regardless of whether that information is actually true. And this regularly
happens outside of our conscious awareness.
Confirmation bias already came to light in more concrete terms in our previous
sessions. Let me quote a few examples:
Youre probably familiar with overlooking misspelled words. This is because your brain is so
accustomed to reading the words in correct spelling, that it simply overlooks a typo. It filters
the typo out of the image, thus causing you to overlook it and see the correct spelling, which
is more in line with your expectations.
()
Basically, our ingrained belief system (i.e. the correct spelling of the words we see most of
the time) causes the brain to filter out the information (i.e. the typo) thats at odds with its
conditioned worldview (i.e. its expectations).
()
Due to the fact that the information picked up by our eyes is edited by the brain according
to its ingrained convictions, a large proportion of what we actually see is determined by
what we believe deep inside to be true.
And of course, because we see what we believe, we immediately believe what we see. After
all, the selectively filtered image that we perceive naturally supports the convictions that
drove that filtering in the first place.
Thus, what we see also reinforces our belief system, which in turn increases the probability
that we keep seeing things in the way we expect them to be or are convinced they are
which then goes on to make us see things in that manner once more.
But pattern reinforcement doesnt end with confirmation bias. Heres whats more:
2.
So in these two ways we constantly reinforce patterns that are already installed in our subconscious minds, be it mostly inadvertently and without us realizing it. Nevertheless, they still
become more powerful and dominant, even though we may not be paying any conscious attention to them.
Now lets quickly summarize what weve found, so we can begin to evaluate the effectiveness of
various popular methods and techniques.
1.1.4 Summary
Based on the understanding of the mechanisms outlined in the previous sections, what follows is a
simple term summary of the overall philosophy that underpins most popular personal development
approaches (<-- which well use as a starting point to identify its commonly overlooked blind spot).
They determine the reality we actually perceive (<-- i.e. taking into account the
mechanism of filtering by means of deleting, generalizing and distorting input
information);
They (indirectly) guide and direct our (conscious) patterns of thought, feeling,
decision making and acting, and thus ultimately the life we create for ourselves.
The resulting effect of pure conditioning has caused the creation of our current
subconscious programming, which means that this programming isnt something
we were born with, but rather something we acquired over the course of our lives:
For example: our parents told us (or even imposed) their worldviews, we grew up
under the influence of certain societal and/or cultural norms and habits and rituals
that were characteristic to our family of origin, we went through certain forms of
education, we watched the news, we may have subscribed to certain religious
convictions, and so on.
As such, over the course of our lives we constantly received a certain type of input
information (<-- possibly reinforced with a certain degree of emotional charge).
In most people, (at least part of) this input has not been conducive to building a
healthy self-image and success in life as they define it at present.
And yet, through repetition of this input information and emotional charge over time,
our minds subconsciously instilled an entire inner system of beliefs, concepts, values
expectations and automated ways to focus our attention, and play out other associated patterns. And once installed, these patterns got (unconsciously) reinforced over
time as well.
These patterns are still running the show in our lives right now, and usually have an
inhibiting influence on our ability and resolve to deliberately take charge of our lives
and create our desired reality.
In short, currently prevailing self help-techniques are based on a philosophy that sees subconscious programming solely as a product of pure conditioning.
Heres a visual illustration of this train of thought:
Visual Summary:
Input

free will instruction)
Input Processing
Output
(Conscious thoughts,
feelings, and actions and
resulting manifestations)

(Habituation, filtering)
Now before we move on, dont get me wrong, because all of this is essentially true
Nevertheless, as youre about to learn, theres a fundamental aspect thats missing from this
picture, and thus never gets the attention it should if we really want to make notable and lasting
changes and want to stop the never-ending cycle of trying technique after technique without ever
really getting the results were after.
In order to get a good grip on that blind spot, lets first take a closer look at the techniques that are
currently available to us (<-- at least the ones we hear about most often), how they intend to help us,
and where they might fall short
2.
Next, the second way this philosophy assumed subconscious programming can be
changed is to:
In turn, through the fundamental operating process of filtering, the resulting new subconscious programming will cause us to create a new, more positive conceptual reality
internally, which well subsequently manifest into external reality through our improved thoughts, feelings, decisions and actions:
Well notice different information that would otherwise be filtered out of our
awareness
Other information will be deleted that would normally be included (and perhaps
emphasized) in our perception
Input will be classified and generalized differently
Well basically construct a whole different internal concept of reality and our place in
it, which will also result in different decisions, actions, and behavior thatll be in line
with our new beliefs and aspirations.
Indeed, if we evaluate the most common and popular techniques more closely, well see that
theyre all based on the above-mentioned concepts:
Repeating positive affirmations:
Well do this with the intent to change your input into a more constructive variety.
So the overall aim of each of these techniques is to manipulate our existing subconscious programming in ways that are in line with the established, mainstream understanding of how our subconscious minds work (<-- as explained in Section 1.1).
So now that were clear on the principles behind currently prevailing self help-techniques (and while
it all makes sense and is definitely all true in essence), were still left with the question asked in the
foreword of this study guide:
Why can it seem so hard to crack your egg and to break free from your subconsciously ingrained
limiting patterns, despite all the various methods and techniques that are already out there and
that you may have already tried and that are supposedly based on all this advanced knowledge
of the subconscious mind?
Its because of that blind spot.
Lets figure out what it is
Yes, all those techniques can work for you and/or have some sort of positive impact. However, its important to realize that each of them has a specialized effect, not an all-encompassing and/or universal one. Whether or not they do have a significant effect on our
subconscious programming depends on:
Which levels and details of our unique subconscious programming we intend to target;
The characteristics of those parts of our ingrained programming (<-- i.e. the unique characteristics of our personal eggshell structure), and which technique would be suitable and/or
most appropriate for us to apply in targeting those;
Other unique characteristics of us as unique persons that determine whether or not a particular technique matches our personal style, so that it doesnt get filtered before it can
even have an effect on the level its supposed to work on. (<-- In other words: Different
folks need different strokes.)
These notions pave the way for a new big picture perspective that well draw in the next
chapter. For now, realize this:
In our exploration of how those techniques are assumed to work, youll notice one common
denominator:
As currently presented, were supposed to apply each and every single one of them with
a certain degree of randomness and/or blind faith in their effect.
In other words: theres no system and/or clear focus or target in the way were supposed to
apply them. For example:
Do you know how long you need to keep repeating your affirmations or keep doing
your visualizations until you get results? For most people this practice turns into a
seemingly everlasting process that hardly ever provides great pay-off, or they quit
prematurely because they dont like the anticipation of a potentially never-ending
endeavor.
Our application of this concept is usually random, and all we can do is hope for
eventual reward.
A common instruction we get with using EFT is: Try it on everything, and we normally
get a series of standard accompanying statements and phrasings that may or may not
be accurately specified to us.
With brainwave entrainment and subliminal messaging we just need to start listening and thats it. All we can do is follow that instruction and hope itll pay off in some
way eventually (<-- which it can, but we dont know for sure until it actually does).
Do you see the degree of arbitrariness in these approaches? Of course, these are just a few
examples, and again: this is not to say that theres anything essentially wrong with these
techniques, and that its impossible that they bring us great results. The point is this:
Regardless of how powerful these and other techniques can potentially be, the way in
which were instructed to use them tends to be in a relatively random, arbitrary, hit-ormiss fashion.
We never really know exactly what were doing or targeting. Were basically wearing a
blindfold while hoping we hit the bulls-eye. This way, even if we do get some lucky hits,
and even if those hits are not superficial (as they usually are), well never know what really
did the trick (<-- and thus we wont be able to replicate our success across a wider board).
Now of course: we may not give a wet slap about that if indeed we do get the pay-off we
were after
But if like most people we dont get that pay-off, or if our inhibiting subconscious programming simply reinstalls itself after a mere temporary sense of relief, were likely to get
extremely frustrated, think its all a big scam, and may even be inclined to give up completely on wanting to become our best selves and actualize our true hidden capabilities
(which would be a shame, because we really can).
Chapter 2:
How does our subconscious system of beliefs and programmed patterns really come to
be (<-- contrary to how weve probably been led to believe)?
And why does it normally remain so stubbornly, no matter what method or technique we
use in an attempt to change it, overwrite it, replace it, etc.?
While the mechanisms of habituation and filtering are essential in the way we function subconsciously, theyre really just two examples of our mind/body-systems fundamental operating processes. These particular ones are merely responsible for the efficient allocation of our energy (<-- so
that we dont waste it on things that our minds consider unimportant).
Of course, efficient resource allocation is crucial to optimal performance, achievement, success and
fulfillment in life. However, that doesnt mean its the complete picture of how our subconscious
minds work.
In truth, theres another factor, a crucial determining one in the form of a driving force behind the
formation and perpetuation of our subconscious programming that impacts its nature like nothing
else.
This blind spot is the basis for the egg-cracking crux.
Ignorance and lack of recognition or acknowledgment of this concept is the very reason why most
personal development techniques seem to have such a merely random, hit-or-miss type of effect.
And by becoming aware of how it manifests itself in our own subconscious mind, we begin to
target the foundational elements of our eggshell structure.
Give yourself permission to take your time to digest the information of this chapter. You might
even want to read it multiple times to let it sink in.
At the same time, remember that theres no need to be able to reproduce all the details; the
practical implications are ultimately relatively simple to implement. (<-- The explanations that
follow merely serve to facilitate your understanding of what exactly were doing and how deep
we make changes in our mind/body-systems on the Crack Your Egg-process).
So lets dig in
2.2 Meta-Patterns
Meta is a Greek word that literally refers to anything above, beyond or about something else.
Thats why we refer to the type of deeply-ingrained subconscious patterns that act as the driving
force behind the nature of our subconscious programming as meta-patterns (<-- which are related
to, but not the same as meta-programs as put forward in the field of neuro-linguistic programming).
Put differently:
Meta-patterns arent part of the fundamental wiring of our body/mind-system, like the basic
operating processes of habituation and filtering. (<-- Those are two example processes that
are included in the standard-issue equipment of our body/mind-systems that we cannot
change.)
Neither are meta-patterns an integral part of the types of limiting beliefs and subconscious
programming that weve been covering so far and that most personal development programs
focus at (<-- i.e. the acquired patterns that filter your perception and drive our conscious
thoughts, decisions, and actions).
Instead, while meta-patterns are indeed (mostly) acquired just like the subconscious programs
weve been covering so far, theyre more fundamental and run deeper in the background of our
minds:
From this latent position they provide the rules that direct and guide the formation of the
higher-level subconscious programming that weve been covering so far. In other words, they
coordinate the formation of our (limiting) beliefs, values, concepts, expectations, attitudes, etc.,
which themselves in turn filter our perceptions and drive our thoughts, decisions and actions on
the conscious level.
To put that differently using our overarching egg-terminology: meta-patterns make up the
foundations for our eggshell structure; theyre the groundwork and core structure on and
around which we build the unique configuration of egg elements that makes up our
personal eggshell.
In addition, these meta-patterns also put up challenges to our effective application of common
personal development techniques, because the contextual rules they impose can sabotage the
effects these techniques intend to elicit before they even reach the levels that we want them to
work on, thus usually rendering most of our efforts in applying them completely useless.
Remember our visual model from Section 1.1.4? Turn the page and take another look at it:
Old Model
Philosophy:
Focus on the input processing level, and work with operational habituation to establish the desired changes by changing
negative input into positive input through conscious, free will instruction. The new constructive programming thats
supposed to be established this way should result in more desirable output.

Operating Processes
Fundamental Wiring:
(Habituation, filtering)
As you recall, based on the philosophy of this old model, most experts out there tell us that we
need to target the orange input processing-area in the scheme above in order to establish the
changes we desire. And as a result, that level is what most methods out there are aimed at.
As mentioned before, theres nothing essentially wrong with that. However, as weve established,
the problem is that the representation you see above is not a complete illustration of how we really
function subconsciously. And as a consequence, no matter what technique or method we try to use,
we hardly ever deal with our true, core imbalances (<-- with the exception of some occasional lucky
hits).
So to come to a more complete illustration, we need to expand on this model and add a layer of
meta-patterns to it. This results in a new model that we can depict as follows (next page):
Before we make this much more tangible through some concrete meta-pattern examples, lets
cover our bases first. As you take a look at our new model above, youll notice the following:
First of all, weve expanded the orange area in our model, which now has two levels instead of
just one:
1.
A surface level in the form of subconscious programming thats directly responsible for
input processing (<-- i.e. the programming we covered in the previous chapter and what
most personal development programs always refer to);
2.
This illustrates how meta-patterns are not fundamentally wired operating processes like habituation and filtering. Instead, we acquire them at some point. Also, theyre not the kind of programming on the surface, input processing-level (<-- which weve gone over in the previous
chapter and preceding sessions, and usually encounter in most programs out there).
As you know, the fundamentally wired operating processes of habituation and filtering lie at the root of the formation of the surface-level subconscious programming
Weve gone over this in detail in Chapter 1
The same processes lie at the root of the creation of meta-patterns except in case of
meta-patterns, there are other operating processes in play as well:
The additional operating processes involved fall under a category well refer to as instinctual tendencies. (<-- More details in subsequent sections)
In turn, the meta-patterns themselves are responsible for directing and guiding the
formation of our surface-level subconscious programming.
They dont create this programming; the processes of habituation and filtering are
responsible for doing so (<-- as explained in Chapter 1).
However, meta-patterns tell these processes how to create this programming and what
kind of patterns to create. In other words:
They offer the coordinating rules that define the directions and patterns in which our minds
form the eggshell structures that are unique to each of us. Theyre the causative drivers
for the configuration in which we build up our own egg elements.
As such, meta-patterns explain how our particular subconscious system of beliefs, values,
attitudes and automatisms really comes to be, contrary to how were often led to believe.
And likewise, theyre the explanation for why this subconscious programming tends to sustain
itself so stubbornly no matter what we try to change it, overwrite it, replace it, etc., or for why
it reinstalls itself so quickly after we do happen to get a little breakthrough:
This is how the symbol of the egg is not just not some cute, lightweight and cartoonish
repackaging of old wives wisdom, new age mumbo-jumbo, self-help platitudes, or some
overhyped fad. Its indeed a broader concept that encompasses far more than that.
Of course, so far the whole idea of meta-patterns may still seem a little abstract and elusive. So
lets go over some concrete examples.
As you saw in the depiction of our new model, we can distinguish between two types of metapatterns:
1.
2.
Structural meta-patterns;
Thematic meta-patterns.
The next two sections carefully explain both these types, so we can get a clear picture of what they do
and why theyre so important to take into account.
After that, youll appreciate how understanding these meta-patterns opens up a whole new world of
possibility for us!
Do you see the difference? Your structural tendency might tend more towards matching for
sameness, whereas my structural tendency might tend more towards mismatching for
differences.
These are two extremes, and we can fall anywhere within the continuum they demarcate, but
you get the general idea
Example #2:
Some people think differently about problems and challenges than others. For instance, lets say
were both observing a certain challenging situation:
I might have a more philosophical tendency and (initially) devote most attention to why the
problem or challenge occurred in the first place, from the mechanically wired conviction
that if I understand where an issue originates, I can gain mastery over it.
You on the other hand might have a more practical tendency, and (initially) focus mostly on
the immediate practical questions regarding how to overcome the challenge and what you
can do about it, without giving a wet slap about understanding why and how this situation
came to be and why a particular solution might work or not.
Again, these are two extremes, and theres a scale ranging from why to how or from philosophical to practical. But Im sure you appreciate the concept and why its relevant:
Such distinctions could be of influence in determining whether or not a certain
personal development technique or approach is going to be effective for us. For
instance, building on the above example:
With my philosophical tendencies, I may not be able to get techniques to work for which Im
not clear about how and why they have the potential to be effective, while they may very
well work wonders for you if your structural meta-patterns exclusively prescribe practical utility. In other words: Different strokes for different folks
28 | CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3
Example #3:
Some people learn new information differently than others. For instance:
I may have deductive tendencies, meaning I tend to start by thinking globally and then
move down into specifics. In other words: I first think of the big picture, i.e. the overall
vision and principles, and only after that do I drill down to specific aspects and details.
You on the other hand may have inductive tendencies, meaning you prefer to begin with
the specific details, and then induce to the overall conclusions.
And someone else may have abductive tendencies, meaning they tend to think and reason
more laterally in terms of analogies, metaphors, stories, and narratives.
This means you, me, and the other person may each require a different approach to dissolving
our subconscious imbalances. As a result, one technique may work for one of us very well, while
it may not have any notable effect whatsoever on another (<-- who might then be unrightfully
quick to conclude that this particular method is a scam).
Consider this for a moment:
You may have noticed that the videos and study guides of our various sessions so far
involved aspects of all of the above:
They point out the what, but also the why and the how (<-- more how is still coming up!).
They use inductive reasoning (translating details to big pictures), as well as deductive
reasoning (translating big pictures to details), as well as abductive reasoning (using
stories and metaphors).
The reason is that all people are different, and covering all these styles increases the chances
that this information becomes understandable and usable for everyone!
Sure: the practical relevance of this is that you need to make use of certain technicalities and workarounds in your application of whatever self help-techniques and methods you select, in order to
bypass potential filtering blocks imposed by your structural meta-patterns (<-- which will inevitably
turn up!).
If you choose to give my own methods a chance, the protocols included in the Crack Your Egg
Program already include such workarounds, so you dont have to worry about figuring out that
part.
Structural meta-patterns are often partly genetic, though not necessarily. But even if they are, they
always have a great deal of acquired characteristics to them, meaning they could be subject to
change (at least to a certain extent).
And more importantly: the acquired characteristics are always heavily intertwined with our thematic
meta-patterns.
This is why thematic meta-patterns are the ones we need to concern ourselves with most, as
theyre the most pivotal to the nature of our subconscious programming and fundamental
orientation in life:
They directly influence the content of your subconscious programming.
They indirectly influence the contextual rules (<-- through their impact on structural metapatterns) that define the bandwidth within which particular techniques work for us.
So lets explore that kind of meta-pattern in more detail
A young boy appears to be smart and have a lot of potential. He grows up in a family with
loving parents, and also two brothers who are mentally disabled and autistic.
The parents love all three kids, but are also especially proud of the young and smart boy
whos the focus of our little narrative here. They place a lot of hope and expectation on
him because he obviously has more potential to succeed in life than his disabled
brothers. And so they try to stimulate him to do his best and perform well.
The boy does well in grade school, works hard, and is often the best in his class. His
parents praise and acknowledge him, and all is well.
As a consequence, he temporarily redirects his focus, and isnt as precise and performance-oriented as he used to be. As a result, his grades are still good compared to
the rest of the class, but not as excellent as they used to be.
The boy progresses through the early grades in school with ease, and is gradually presented with more and more opportunities. He gets a bit bored by the standard repetitive
practice of regular school activities, and begins to explore various creative routes for a
while.
One evening his parents talk to his teacher, who makes them aware of these developments.
Back home, the parents become angry with the boy, and threaten to take away certain
toys if he keeps going on like this, doesnt do his best at school, and doesnt come home
with the excellent results that became the norm and that everyone knows hes really
capable of.
The boy is caught off guard, feels threatened in his sense of security by the anger of his
parents (the very people he felt were the ones that were there to keep him safe). He also
gets the implicit message that a great deal of hope is placed on him because of his potential, in contrast to the perceived lack thereof with his mentally-disabled brothers.
The boy now feels the pressure on him and interprets it as a significant threat to his
As such, he takes on the personality of a perfectionist and a people-pleaser (<-- with the
implicit intent to retain environmental harmony), because he thinks thatll prevent such
highly uncomfortable events (<-- i.e. perceived threats to his security) in the future.
Over time, this underlying driving force of avoiding mistakes, pleasing people, and
maintaining harmony causes him to create a structure of new (limiting) beliefs, values,
and patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting that are in line with the meta-patterns coordinating rules that seek to avoid and prevent similar threatening situations that originally induced its installation.
Potential surface limiting beliefs the boy might develop in accordance with this underlying
drive could be:
Its bad and not okay to be angry, so Im never angry: Im not an angry person, Im
always upbeat and positive;
I always need to do what [certain] people want me to do;
Rich people often have bad qualities, and since I must not make mistakes and be
perfect, I must not become rich or: rich people often make other people angry,
and since thats what Im really trying to avoid, becoming rich is dangerous which
in turn could eventually evolve into more superficial beliefs, such as: I cant give
myself permission to experience financial abundance and money is the root of
all evil;
Etc.
In turn, the structure of beliefs he unconsciously builds this way will influence his
thoughts, feelings, attitudes and behavior throughout the rest of his life, and will reflect
themselves in the actual reality he creates for himself (<-- as explained in our earlier
sessions).
For example, even though he may consciously think hed like to be rich, he will unconsciously repel this very experience by means of the vibrational pattern broadcast through
his eggshell structure that represents his deepest inner state (<-- which is really still reflecting the imbalance he ingrained at the time when he was young and felt severely threatened in his security and his thoughts, feelings, and behavior are still driven by this underlying imbalance, probably without him being aware of it because they became habituated
over time).
Now for the sake of explaining the importance of this, even though it might be a far stretch
because this exact theme may not apply or be relatable to you, imagine for a moment that youre
the boy from the example scenario above:
As explained, over time you construct a whole structure of limiting beliefs upon limiting beliefs,
all ultimately based on the root imbalance induced by the extremely discomforting feelings you
originally experienced when you felt threatened in your security when your parents became
angry and disapproving of you because of something you did (or didnt).
For instance, as outlined in the example scenario, your fundamental drives may eventually
evolve into certain surface-level limiting beliefs about financial abundance and being rich,
such as money is the root of all evil, Im not allowed to experience financial abundance,
which are really, ultimately and indirectly driven by your deeply ingrained, implicit intent to
avoid similar experiences of feeling threatened in your security by the anger and/or dismay
of other people.
Later in life you may realize that you have some difficulties manifesting financial abundance.
You get yourself some self help-material, through which you may learn about and become
aware of your limiting beliefs of Im not allowed to experience financial abundance and
money is the root of all evil.
Once you do, you conclude that these beliefs must be the core reason for your difficulty to
manifest financial abundance. So you follow the advice of the self-help experts by beginning
to apply their techniques in an attempt to change those particular beliefs, thinking youre really
digging into the roots of the issue in this particular area of your life.
However, what you probably dont realize, is that in this particular scenario, the beliefs youre
targeting are really relatively superficial in your overall structure of subconscious programming
even though you may be under the delusional impression that youre working on the very core
elements that lie at the root of your difficulty to manifest financial abundance.
But thats not the case Instead, theres an underlying reason why you created these more
superficial limiting beliefs to begin with!
Ultimately, this underlying reason is the originating experience of feeling threatened in your
security when your parents got angry with you, and your subsequently resulting (unconscious)
tendencies to avoid similar situations from that point forward, which are still playing themselves
out to this day.
As such, the limiting beliefs of money is the root of all evil and Im not allowed to experience
financial abundance are merely surface manifestations of underlying tendencies to avoid a
significant (past) discomfort.
Please Note:
While this particular scenario is made relevant to the topic of financial abundance, the ultimate effects of such deep and constricting subconscious drives (<-- including ones that involve
different themes and content) can translate themselves in all manners of manifestations, such
as chronic emotional suffering, physical disease, trouble connecting with others and building
fulfilling relationships, etc.
So are you beginning to see how crucial and fundamental these underlying tendencies are to the
overall nature of our life experience and the reality we create for ourselves?
As long as this fundamental breeding ground remains intact:
itll either be extremely hard to elicit notable shifts in our subconscious programming to start
with
or even if we do have some success in (temporarily) instigating such shifts (<-- normally
through a relatively random hit), the new state usually doesnt last long and we probably
CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3 | 33
wont experience the fulfillment and happiness that were really after enduringly.
For example:
Well (implicitly) find ways to reconstruct patterns similar to our old ones that may be
different in content and detail, but have the same overall gist and atmosphere:
We still feel constrained and unhappy, because the true, underlying imbalance hasnt been
resolved.
Or we keep moving whatever we contemplate to be our finish line so that we never gain a
sense of happiness and fulfillment even if we do happen to reach (some of) our primary
goals.
For instance, extrapolating on the financial abundance scenario of the boy, even if we do
manifest something that we might currently interpret as financial abundance, we may
not even regard it as such when its actually there:
We may think we must need to have more financial abundance regardless of what
weve already manifested, because we still feel constrained and unhappy
Or we realize that financial abundance must not have been what we really wanted
after all, because we still feel constrained and unhappy now that we have it.
In short, well always feel constrained and unhappy no matter what, because we havent resolved our fundamental, underlying imbalance.
As long as this deeper issue remains, itll go on to determine our fundamental orientation in life
and the overall atmosphere of our mental and emotional state, which in turn will be reflected in
life experiences that evoke the very imbalanced patterns of thought, feeling, attitude and behavior
that are built on it.
Of course, the scenario outlined above is but one example, and perhaps one that youre unable to
relate to content-wise
But the important thing is that it illustrates what type of relatively small, hidden factors could be in
play that we may not even realize, and that the limiting beliefs that we often think lie at the root of
our blocks in life could really be surface manifestations of more deeply-rooted imbalances.
In reality there are clearly tons of possible scenarios that can potentially create different thematic
meta-patterns. In that regard it may also appear like a very elusive and perhaps seemingly impossible endeavor to uncover and identify our own unique issues.
But heres the good news:
As explained in Session 2, life actually gives us a hand on this process once we genuinely decide
to break free and invest ourselves in a creative vision.
By dissolving just one particular imbalance that happens to be of major overall influence, well
dismantle an entire structure of inhibiting subconscious programming along with it.
And besides, while the details of these scenarios can differ and vary infinitely, believe it or not:
The basic characteristics and results of all these scenarios can be drilled down to only a (relative)
handful of typical thematic meta-patterns, which makes uncovering your central, underlying
imbalances a whole lot easier!
The Crack Your Egg Program provides clear instruction and direction on how to most
efficiently engage in this process.
So now that we have a good, general idea about the nature of thematic meta-patterns, lets
compile the practical implications of our new insights in the next chapter.
As such, this type of meta-pattern has a significant impact on the subject matter of our
personal set of (limiting) beliefs, values, attitudes, and other subconscious patterns. Put
differently: they account for our blind spots: the things we dont see about ourselves.
From a practical perspective, that means that through becoming aware of our thematic
meta-patterns:
well have a very clear indication for where to look within ourselves to find the
core, foundational imbalances on which our entire eggshell-structure is built
and knowing that enables us to systematically target and take out those core foundations, so that shifting into a constructive fundamental orientation and associated
subconscious programming happens as an automatic by-product of this process!
In fact, a huge chunk of our limiting programming simply dissolves as if it never existed to begin with, and the resulting clean breeding ground is much more responsive
to the positive suggestion we may want to impose on ourselves in order to establish
new, constructive patterns, even by means of using old model-techniques.
The best thing is that theres only a certain limited number of commonly recurring, typical
thematic meta-patterns, which makes it relatively straightforward to figure out which of
them are impacting us and driving the associated inhibiting patterns we display.
Egg Marks;
Complex cover-ups;
Self-fulfilling prophecies;
Identification.
The tricky thing about these processes is that they normally occur quite far outside of our normal
awareness, meaning we often have no idea theyre even going on.
But once we know about them, we automatically become more mindful to them. And as a result,
well be able to catch ourselves in the act and eventually to both reverse our programming by
breaking and even dissolving existing patterns at their deepest roots, and keeping them from
turning up again.
So lets zoom in on these processes in more detail, so we can finally define our new orientation
As such, just one or a few significant events that evoke an intense enough emotional reaction can
leave what is called an imprint:
Imprints
In very simple terms, an imprint in this context is a life-altering experience of high
emotional significance, which in turn shapes our subconscious programming by imprinting and/or altering our beliefs and implicit focus of attention in either a constructive or destructive way:
If the originating experience is some kind of triumph with a significant positive emotional charge, were likely to create constructive programming and/or beliefs attesting to
higher levels of development, along the overall theme that anything is possible for us.
If, on the other hand, the experience is horrid and accompanied by a highly significant
uncomfortable, perhaps traumatic emotional charge, were likely to adopt a set of disempowering beliefs and self-sabotaging emotional patterns.
Major events like this can affect our view of the world and ourselves, for better or
worse. And as you probably know, for most people it becomes a strongly inhibiting
factor in their lives (as opposed to an empowering one).
38 | CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3
While such high-impact experiences can occur throughout our lives, they particularly take
place when were very young, especially during the imprint period (<-- which is when were
not very strong yet, still dependent on others (e.g. our parents), and relatively easily overwhelmed by our environment).
Such imprints are sometimes referred to as engrams, a term that indicates a (hypothetical)
way for memory traces to be stored physically through biochemical changes in the brain and
other neural tissues.
Buddhists refer to them as a Sankharas, and the yogic tradition as Samskaras, a Sanskrit
word that literally means impression. (<-- In the yogic teachings its considered one of the most
important influences that affect our lives.)
In the Crack Your Egg-philosophy we call them Egg Marks.
As such, Egg Marks are a key element to the story of why it can be so hard to crack our eggs and
why so few personal development techniques actually have the effect theyre supposed to have:
These high-impact experiences create the thematic meta-patterns we spoke about earlier,
which in turn govern the creation of our particular structure of inhibiting convictions and other
limiting programming.
Basically, during such high-impact experiences we define an overall, inner method of operation
that we implicitly decide to use from that point forward.
In short and simple terms, heres what happens:
We get into an imprint type of experience (<-- i.e. a moment of crisis and/or intense, uncomfortable emotion);
We then conclude for ourselves:
In order for me to cope with these dangerous circumstances or to avoid them altogether in the
future, from now on Im going to be this particular kind of person, with this particular type of
fundamental beliefs, values, and intentions, and Ill think and act in these particular ways.
In other words: based on our (perceived) discomfort, we define an underlying governing
pattern. And from then on, that governing pattern will direct, steer, and guide the creation
of more detailed (limiting) beliefs, values, intentions, etc. that well live by as relevant to
our particular environmental conditions.
In turn, these beliefs, values, intentions, attitudes, etc. will subsequently drive our entire way of
thinking, feeling, decision making and acting on the conscious level in the future, meaning well
think, feel, decide and act in ways that are designed to have us avoid and prevent situations in
the future that might somehow evoke a similar type of discomfort to the one that left the imprint.
This way, our subconscious programming seeks to ensure our survival and well-being (or that of
people we consider part of our tribe).
Please Note!
Again, its important to realize that in these types of scenarios, its always about our perception
of the event, not necessarily the event itself. So even though the actual event itself might not be
survival-threatening, our perception or interpretation of it can be.
And as mentioned before and explained in our previous sessions, its this perception of
reality that we react to, i.e. not as much reality itself, but rather our interpretation of it,
the story we attribute to it.
As such, while in retrospect certain events may not seem like very big deals, our perception of
them at the time they occurred may have been. Take our scenario from Section 2.2.2 for
example:
In reality, the source event of the Egg Mark wasnt that big a deal. I mean, its not like the boy
was being attacked by a saber-toothed cat. There really wasnt a real threat to his security
and/or survival. In fact, quite on the contrary:
Out of a sense of love and wanting the best for their gifted kid, the parents sought to turn apparently unmotivated behavior into conduct geared towards top performance and actualization
of the boys potential, which they thought would increase his chances of building a fulfilling life.
However, in the experience and interpretation of the boy, he felt severely threatened in his
security. The emotional discomfort had him install a meta-pattern that would in turn drive
and direct his taking on the types of beliefs, values, intentions, expectations, and so on, and the
patterns along which hed construct them.
These in turn would then subconsciously drive his conscious patterns of thought, feeling,
attitude, decision making, and acting in the future.
So relating this back to you:
Even though certain past experiences may not seem like they were that big a deal from your
current perspective (and while the mere notion of them potentially having been a big deal
might even seem ridiculous at present), they may well have been in your perception at the
time of the event itself, and you may effectively still be dealing with their impact.
So again: the actual events dont have to be life-threatening. Its always our interpretation of the event at the time that defines our meta-patterns.
So as such, Egg Mark-experiences are literally defining moments in our lives:
Theyre the moments in which we define our persona and decide to see the world in a certain way. In
other words: they make us create our ultimate, underlying, core, foundational meta-patterns.
But it doesnt end there
This is a crucial phenomenon to be aware of, because weve discussed before how limiting beliefs
are usually very much attached to strong emotional states. In fact, as we discussed in Section 1.1.2
and in our earlier sessions as well, emotions tend to act as a type of superglue that keeps your
eggshell structure together.
As such, limiting beliefs and emotions can become intertwined in a way that creates a complex and
very strongly tied knot that seems to resist change, because its so hard to untangle. After all, usually
were merely aware of the surface emotion and/or belief, without remembering the actual source of
the knot.
Consequently, were also inclined to work exclusively on that surface level.
So do you see how absolutely crucial it is to learn how to dig in into the real, core level that may be
deeply covered up?
But just when you think that it cant get any worse than that, the other processes of our minds
operating system kick in
2.3.4 Identification
Heres what happens next:
As you know, when we keep repeating certain patterns, they become habituated, and as such
they get programmed as automatic patterns in our subconscious minds (<-- and/or reinforced
in case theyve already been installed).
So as the whole vicious cycle described in the previous section keeps going on and being repeated, the cycle itself becomes our habituated, default state.
This way, the whole process becomes so deeply ingrained, that after a while we simply dont
know any better. It becomes part of our identity; we identify ourselves with it.
This is key, because we basically begin to think:
This the way I am. This is the type of person I am.
For example, well think:
I am a loser.
I am just the kind of person who thinks/feels/acts like this
I dont have much self-esteem: I never had, so thats just who I am.
Ill never have a great relationship. I am just not cut out for it (<-- for whatever concrete reason
we make up on the surface to justify this conviction).
Ive suffered from this ailment for as long as I can remember. It runs in my family too, so I guess
I am just stuck with it.
I am not supposed to have a lot of money, because money is the root of all evil, and Im a
supposed to be a good person.
Etc.
Notice the word am. By using it, were declaring ourselves to be something and/or freeze a
certain reality into being of a certain nature. In other words:
We take a piece of behavior (such as losing, getting angry, not esteeming ourselves, etc.) or a
snapshot of a reality thats really in constant flux
And then we identify ourselves with that behavior or snapshot, and declare that thats who we
or the way things are.
In other words, we equate two different things:
1.
On one hand: a pattern of thought, feeling, attitude and behavior that weve installed based on
a source event that put us in a state of severe discomfort and left an inner imbalance (<-- i.e. an
Egg Mark), or a temporary state of affairs as it is in the moment.
2.
So the whole chaos of ties, knots, surface level limiting beliefs and ways of thinking, feeling and
acting now becomes our projected personality and worldview.
We think this is who we really are and what life is like, while thats not really the case:
44 | CRACK YOUR EGG: STUDY GUIDE SESSION 3
Its rather imbalanced pattern built on imbalanced pattern, the totality of which ultimately so
completely engulfs our entire state of being, that it totally masks our true, genuine essence.
But while it isnt who we really are, it does create the mental and emotional atmosphere in which
we live our lives. This atmosphere not only filters all our perceptions and attitudes and determines
how we color our world so that we merely (or at least mostly) see your preconceived notions
confirmed, but also operates on a level outside of our normal conscious awareness.
Think of it this way:
Imagine you have purple-colored glasses on.
As a consequence, the whole world looks purple from your point of view. Any information coming into your eyes first go through this filter that gives a purple hue to everything that eventually enters your eyes.
As such, your perception of reality is different (more purple) from reality itself. If youd
take off the purple glasses, the world would look entirely different.
But youve forgotten youve got these glasses on, so you never see it that way.
In a similar way, this atmosphere Im talking about filters reality for you, so that you see
things differently compared to how they really are (or could be).
Living in such an atmosphere we hardly notice how it filters all incoming information and colors all
our perceptions, and how we keep seeing confirmations of our own inner preconceptions.
This atmosphere becomes the very fabric of our mental and emotional life. In other words, it
becomes our way of being.
This atmosphere is what I refer to as the experience inside the egg.
And thus weve come full circle.
So where does this all leave us?

patterns and the ultimate, root imbalances that drive the unique style of patterning of
our particular body/mind-system.
The (predictability of) the results of our efforts to elicit constructive changes in our subconscious
programming (<-- and thus in our lives) depend on which level we focus on:
Most people never actually step outside Level 1, and they pretty much go through life playing
out a series of automated responses, (semi-) robotic patterns, and scripted dramas. They usually arent even aware of the fact that its really their subconscious programming thats predominantly determining the course of their lives. At this level, everything seems at random, and life
just happens to us.
Others have woken up, and are able to recognize that much of their patterns of thought,
feeling, decision making, and acting are based on a structure of subconscious programming in
the form of preprogrammed convictions, values, attitudes, and so on.
As a result of that realization theyve begun to engage in all kinds of different self-help methods
designed to help instigate constructive shifts in their subconscious mind (<-- such as repeating
positive affirmations, creative visualization with emotional involvement, subliminal messaging,
brainwave entrainment, EFT and other emotional release techniques, healing methods, etc.).
The results, however, seem coincidental, temporary, mediocre, and/or non-existent. Whatever
the case may be, their approach is generally arbitrary: theres no clear-cut system, let alone customized method or structure to the process thats tailored to their unique characteristics and
requirements.
But to systematically make notable, lasting changes in our subconscious programming (and our
lives), its mainly Level 3 we need to focus on:
By disabling and dissolving the very reason why the other two levels are built up the way they
are, we no longer even need to take actions that are specifically aimed at those levels:
Surface level-belief structures usually dissolve automatically in the process of making changes
at the meta-pattern level. But even if they dont, theyll be like buildings without a core structure and foundation: i.e. theyll be easy to demolish, even by means of existing methods that
may have rendered little result in the past.
By the same token, as long as we dont take out the fundamental imbalance that makes up this
underlying reason why, our inhibiting subconscious programming is likely to rebuild itself no
matter what we do. Its exact details might be different, but the overall result is the same:
Itll keep us from becoming your best selves and from actualizing our true capabilities, and will
perpetuate the same (or a similar) mental and emotional atmosphere that drove its creation in
the first place.
Whether we take out those core imbalances through lucky shots or a systematic approach (<-- like we
take on the Crack Your Egg Program) ultimately doesnt matter. The point remains:
If we ever want notable and lasting changes, shifts need to be made on this third level.
Whichever methodology we choose to make those changes, well need to take the following
conditions into account:
Our own, unique structural meta-patterns prescribe that the method or tool we choose to apply
bypasses or works in line with the filtering thats driven by the contextual rules they impose.
Knowing about our own, unique thematic meta-patterns points us at the Egg Marks that make
up the core foundational imbalances on which our entire eggshell structure and inhibiting
programming is built. This gives us clear direction in targeting the true sources of our limitations.
So how do we figure out our own patterns?
Well, it all starts with the techniques and insights covered in the previous two sessions. So continue
to practice their exercises. But from this point forward, see if you can take your introspection to
deeper levels with the newly-gained awareness as put forward in this study guide.
For example, ask yourself:
Which significant events come to mind when you think back and consider what could have been Egg
Mark-experiences in your life?
And how could they have influenced your current, default patterns of thought, feeling, attitude,
decision making, and behavior? (<-- Dont forget to apply the participant/observer-method during
this exercise to defuse from any emotional discomfort that may get evoked, and leverage the other
skills and insights youve learned so far to process it)
Or to begin your own process of systematically dismantling and dissolving your inhibiting subconscious programming on the meta-pattern level (<-- and thus all the rest along with it), feel
free to enroll in the Crack Your Egg Program.
All in all, our new orientation prescribes that our progress and results stand or fall with our ability
and/or willingness to recognize and appreciate the crucial importance of meta-patterns, and a final
essential realization that emerges from it (<-- described in the next and final section).
Conclusion:
Anyway, being a mediocre player compared to the big shots out there, I do like to study guitarists
that I really enjoy listening to checking out their techniques, their licks, their different styles, etc.
However, as any true musician will confirm, technique, skill, style, and dexterity are only part of
the story in creating great music. Whats much more essential to a unique and awesome sound is
the soul thats put into it.
Ive heard one of my favorite players say once:
You dont make music Music finds you. Your job is to practice to get yourself ready.
Basically, what he was saying was that theres music out there, in the ether if you will like a
vibration or a wave thats waiting for you to pick it up, and then make it manifest in this reality
through you for which you obviously need skills and dexterity to be capable of translating and
relaying that inspiration through your bodys interaction with the instrument.
And thats a really good point to remember:
You might be reading this out of a desire to learn how to take back control of your life, to actualize
your dreams, and to consciously and deliberately create your own reality.
Well, creating the life you want is a lot like creating music. By that I dont mean the average, runoff-the-mill R&B, teeny bopper, or dance song from todays hit parades, but real, inspired music
that has true soul to it.
The practice of consciously shaping your life and destiny (<-- or manifesting as its popularly
referred to these days) is not something you do Like music, its something thats done through
you.
This process can either feel like a struggle (which is what most people are experiencing), or it can feel
like a natural flow a wave or a current that you pick up one that is natural to you that you feel
good with that fits you one thats authentically you.
Thats why experiencing the latter state is referred to as being in the flow, or in the zone.
Weve all experienced that feeling at some point in our lives, be it usually just shortly and fleetingly.
That feeling is what most people are really after when they say want to attract abundance, manifest their desires, and create the lives of their dreams. They seek that state in which everything
seems to come naturally, i.e. the experience that brings along such an awesome feeling of elation
and livelihood, that we wish every day could be like it.
When youre in the flow, youre in tune with the greater currents of life. Youre playing an inspired
game that feels like the natural thing to do, like you were meant to be doing it.
Most people seem to have completely lost that game: theyre not just out of tune with the greater
currents and waves of life in general, but also with their own wave, the one I refer to as the Master
Wave. If your life feels like a struggle, this is what youre experiencing:
Instead of feeling like youre going with the flow its like youre swimming up against the stream and
fighting with forces much greater than yourself.
So the question is:
How do you find back that flow?
Many gurus and their following will say you need to focus on the positive, and tell you that as soon
as you do, youll get more good things in your life.
Now before I get into the issue with this undoubtedly well-intended piece of advice, let me make one
thing clear:
Indeed, widening our perspective beyond the tunnel vision that ongoing negativity imposes, is
infinitely better than remaining stuck in negativity, as it allows us to notice all the good things that
are already happening and to actually spot opportunities that we didnt notice before.
Nevertheless, theres actually a danger to the mainstream interpretation of positive thinking. And
to clearly explain what it is, let me get back to my guitar story for a second
You see, I like to play and listen to various different styles of music, particularly when it comes to
guitar. I can listen to genres ranging from hard rock to classical, from blues to folk, from flamenco to
jazz.
While I can enjoy the strong energy of bands like Pearl Jam and Guns n Roses, or the power blues
tunes by Gary Moore and Jeff Healey I can also enjoy Claptons acoustic jams, Richie Kotzens
bluesy funk virtuosity, and the sweet, creamy, and mellow Fender licks of Mark Knopfler at other
times.
In fact, when I was playing a moment ago, I played the riffs and guitar solos from Mark Knopflers
song What It Is on my acoustic
Now, while the guitar part of that song is nice in my opinion, its really the lyrics of the chorus of the
song that are relevant to our discussion (<-- although Im not that fond of the way Knopfler sings, if
you can even call it that but thats a whole other story). The lyrics go like this:
Thats what it is
Its what it is now
What it is
Its what it is now
Now clearly, that probably doesnt come across like a whole lot of poetic value at first sight. And
youre right. But it is what reminded me of the danger of positive thinking, and what perfectly
defines the mindset we need in order to find back our Master Wave. Heres why:
The phrase Its what it is carries enormous power. Because, lets face it:
If youre anything like most people, youre regularly faced with challenging situations and circumstances in life that youre quick to consider negative. (<-- These may in fact have been your very
reason to start looking for a way out by means of the kind of information Im describing for you
here)
Such circumstances evoke the type of negative emotional charge that most experts out there warn
us not to get caught up in.
Now like I said before:
While that kind of warning isnt bad advice in itself, this often turns into a way too simplistic suggestion to merely put our focus on whatever we consider positive instead. As a result, most people give
this proposition a Life of Brian-like twist no matter what cross they have to bear, the motto
remains:
Always look on the bright side of life.
The common consequence of this mentality is that they tend to plainly deny the whole experience
that triggered their uncomfortable state, by immediately turning away to focus on positive things
instead all in an attempt to effectively ignore and avoid the negative charge altogether, out of fear
that the negativity will expand if they give it any attention.
Now let me tell you why that can become a serious problem:
As explained in detail in this and our earlier sessions, theres no denying that our experience of life is
a reflection of our inner state.
And to get back to the relevance of that song What It Is, some other lyrics of it go like this:
And something from the past just comes
And stares into my soul
And thats exactly what happens during such negative experiences.
Theyre reflections of the Egg Marks we discussed:
The Egg Mark is effectively a blockage, an impression from the past that hampers the flow of
energy in our mind/body-system. It often stores a complete snapshot of the originating event.
It can pretty much archive everything we were feeling and thinking at the time, and everything
that was happening surrounding the event.
As such, its an unfinished energy pattern that interacts with the flow of current thoughts and
events. Sensory inputs from todays events basically dig through all the stuff weve stored
throughout the years, and they restore the exact (discomforting and inhibiting) patterns
that are associated with the originating events.
This way, the current dynamics of life can cause the fundamental imbalance thats stored as an
Egg Mark to get stimulated and activated.
When an Egg Mark gets stimulated, suddenly flashes of what we experienced when the original
event took place may rush into our consciousness the thoughts, the feelings, sometimes even
the smells and other sensory input that was there at the time:
Instantly well experience the uncomfortable feelings we felt back then. This way, we can actually feel the fears and the insecurities of a young kid even when were adults.
Whenever they rear their heads, instead of dissolving the Egg Mark, our initial inclination is to
either reduce the tension associated with it as much and as fast as possible, or to even do
whatever we can to avoid the pattern from being activated in the first place.
In other words, these sensory inputs trigger all the patterns of thought, feeling, behavioral
urges, defense mechanisms, and so on that we (probably unconsciously) built around it as
coping, avoidance, and prevention methods.
We may not even consciously remember the originating experiences, or associate the source
events with whats happening in the present. Thats why we may also wonder why we find
ourselves reacting so intensely to current situations of which we might rationally know
theyre not all that bad.
These deeply buried parts of us are simply way out of balance. And thats why theyre so sensitive, that the slightest little thing can cause it (us) to overreact.
We may not consciously realize it, but this way, most of our attitudes and reactions in life are fundamentally caused by an inclination to avoid the feeling of an uncomfortable experience that got
imprinted as an Egg Mark.
And as we keep following these inclinations over and over, such patterns can turn into self-fulfilling
prophecies. And before we realize it, its possible that weve built our entire lives around such
patterns of avoidance.
Now at the risk of explaining the obvious, heres how this blocks the process of creating a genuinely successful and fulfilling life experience:
Many times we even bring this avoidance mentality to this process.
While we think that were taking the enlightened route of consciously employing our creative
powers to shape our own destinies, implicitly we actually try to manipulate and change the world
around us in such a way that it doesnt disturb our Egg Marks. (<-- We see this, for instance, in the
many attempts we take to manifest a rescue from our current situation, which is an act thats by
definition reactive, and not creative.)
As such, we make our decisions based on stimulated blockages. Even the creative desires that we
hold for genuine can result from this urge to get rid of the underlying tension imposed by the Egg
Mark.
In other words:
While we think and aim otherwise, in truth, our lives revolve entirely around our Egg Marks.
At that brings us to the real danger of positive thinking:
Another way of looking at the phenomenon of how sensory inputs from todays events activate the
Egg Marks and the patterns youve built around them over the years is this:
Life actually reflects the imprints, making you aware of the fact that youre holding on to them inside.
Ironically, while we may have unconsciously built an entire Egg-system and life around trying to
avoid the very negative feelings that are imprinted by means of our Egg Marks, this way life will
invariably keep trying to make us aware of it.
And while it may feel otherwise, thats actually a good thing. Think about it:
Since theyre buried deep in our subconscious mind, how else can we become aware of them?
As long as we dont dissolve such underlying disturbances, well keep experiencing them on a repetitive basis in our lives. The stuff that holds us down will periodically rear its head.
And while the circumstances may (or may not) be different each time, the feelings and patterns they
evoke always remain similar, because they originate in the activation of the same Egg Marks.
And thats where the actual danger of positive thinking comes in:
When our Egg Marks get activated and we experience apparently negative thought and emotions, by ignoring them and/or explaining them away through merely redirecting our focus to
positive things, we effectively deny the fact that theyre reflections of deeper imbalances
were holding onto inside.
So clearly, nothing freezes us more in our current state and lack of awareness and constructive
action than this type of denial.
And this is where the phrase it is what it is comes in:
By definition, the phrase it is what it is does not do denial; it does acceptance. And in doing so, it
puts us into a position of tremendous power.
After all, if were not honest and open enough to accept whats happening, how can we possibly do
anything about it?
If we dont face and acknowledge the what is, it wont ever change, because we wont change. Our
Egg Marks will remain, and so theyll keep on being reflected in our experience usually a tad more
extremely with every next time they do.
Its almost like life or the universe is thinking:
Did (s)he get it yet? No? Okay, same recipe again then but this time a little more powerful. (S)He
ought to get it some time!
Now make no mistake:
The acknowledgment that accompanies the phrase its what it is doesnt mean we merely give in
and meekly acquiesce.
Instead, it brings us back into the now and allows us to recognize the inner imbalance thats being
reflected, so we can subsequently clean it out of our systems and finally get rid of our ties to the
limiting patterns that we keep getting pulled into.
Thats why the word now follows up on Its what it is in the song:
It is what it is now
The phrase thus relates to the present not the past, not the future, but the NOW, the only moment
that exists.
Its not what it was Its not what it will be Its what it IS. So the state of mind that the phrase its
what it is instigates, allows us to accurately perceive whats happening now.
And as you know, now is the only moment in which we can change anything in the first place. The
past no longer exists, and the future doesnt yet The time to respond is now.
In that regard, the phrase its what it is must go together with something else, which is:
so lets cut the crap and deal with it.
Negative experiences are not about punishment, or negative karma, or anything like that Just like
any experience, theyre about expanding awareness, i.e. awareness of our innermost selves.
If we dont pick up on that awareness, or dont do anything with it, we never make a constructive
difference.
Once we acknowledge what the negative experience is saying or rather, once we recognize what
imprint of feelings and beliefs is being activated (<-- and which life is thus making us aware of) we
know exactly what it is that we need to work on in ourselves:
We need to clean that junk out of your system! And once we do, its simply no longer there within us
to be reflected in our lives anymore. And that way, the negative experience disappears:
Either because we simply no longer get into the type of situations that used to activate our Egg
Marks
Or because they no longer bother us because there simply are no Egg Marks or associated
patterns to be activated anymore (<-- meaning that you effectively dont recognize them as
negative anymore).
So just redirecting our attention to something we consider to be positive is not going to cut it.
Thats like putting on a band-aid; it might alleviate or even just mask the symptom shortly, but
it never takes away the cause for the symptom to come up in the first place, thus pretty much
guaranteeing its eventual return.
The key is to recognize the Egg Marks that the negative thoughts and emotional charge is associated
with, and then to get rid of our ties to them. Thats the only thing thats going to make a real
difference in the long run.
Once we do, well finally feel the freedom to deliberately create and shape our lives the way we want,
without attachments or aversions being the sole determinants of the direction of our thoughts,
feelings, choices, decisions, and actions.
And guess what:
The more of those ties you release, the more youll find a unique, genuine, and authentic part of you
shining through.
Thats that part that I call the Master Wave
Its important to realize that your Master Wave is not a static end of the line. It too is a moving
current, an ongoing wave progression.
But once you recognize and flow with it, itll feel so natural, youll wonder how you could have ever
missed it. In fact, youll see how in fact youve been denying it all along, either deliberately or
unconsciously (i.e. by default).
The choice to ride it is yours. You dont have to go look for it, or seek enlightenment or any of that
kind of stuff. Its already there, waiting for you to tune (back) in. And you can do so by getting your
Egg Marks and associated junk out of the way, thus clearing your field of vision and reception.
Thats how you really get in the flow. Its a matter of:
Disregarding externally imposed norms of what or who you should be living independently of
petty irrational fears and anxieties being free from attachments to results and expectations,
from aversions to undesired circumstances, and from limiting beliefs instigated in times past.
Honestly and genuinely acknowledging who you really are treading beyond your Egg Marks
enjoying the process of being you and becoming a more awesome version of you with every
waking moment.
Doing so will transform what appears to be a struggle into a natural flow, with all the feelings of
abundance, limitlessness and ease that come with it.
Rudyard Kipling summarized this beautifully in his poem titled If:
If
If you can keep your head when all about you,
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, dont deal in lies
Or being hated dont give way to hating,
And yet dont look too good, nor talk too wise
If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster,
And treat those two impostors just the same
If you can bear to hear the truth youve spoken,
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build them up with worn-out tools
If you can make one heap of all your winnings,
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew,
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing in you,
Except the Will which says to them: Hold on!
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much
If you can fill the unforgiving minute,
With sixty seconds worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and everything thats in it,
And which is more youll be a Man, my son!
Thats the gist of Cracking Your Egg. And when you do, the world is literally yours.
