Introduction

Victoria tourism industry council (VTIC) is in the business of hospitality in Australia. It

is visionary on expanding its shores with regard to the sizes and number of events they host.
Lobbying for such achievements requires committed work forces that work in collaboration to
achieve the set out goals. I am good team player in driving the entire organization towards its
goal in my designated group. The total effort of the team members in the endeavor results in
quality products as Class (2011) explains.
Journal 1: analysis of industry and product
When situations are dire the company resolves to consolidation when providing solutions.
My experience in carrying out empirical research gives me the advantage of analyzing problems
and using creativity as well as novelty to solve problems. The company values this attribute in
their employees. VTIC offers a range of products to all especially the tourists. It offers
accommodation and tours to choice destinations. It recommends some attraction sites where they
are happy to transport interested parties to them. Offering service industry requires patience and
an understanding of the customers needs. I can anticipate the requirements from the tourists so
as to better serve them in a capacity. When a matter is beyond me, I am comfortable asking for
help from collogues or fiving the customer an alternative.
In order to achieve more value for the tasks under my responsibility I opt to have
structure to be more organized. I prioritize the activities to ensure that each task is allocated
attention that is appropriate. Time management is also a greater tool I use for success in my
profession. It is quite indulging to perform all tasks with little times scope. Configuring a chart
comprising of the activities to be done alongside the time is of great value. With the busy
schedule in the company I try to collaborate with other collogues so that cohesion is created.

Journal 2: The Learning Process

The hypothesis that suitably explains how I learn is that of transformation. According to
(Hibbert, Siedlok & Beech (2016), individuals that learn through this method prefer to reinterpret
the meaning of things so that they can comprehend a subject of matter. I in particular tend to
learn and understand things after analyzing and thereafter interpret differently. Hogan (2016)
argues that many adults learn through this method. In addition to his preposition, adults tend to
defy what does not seem right from their perspective. I learn in more pragmatic approach
associating my feelings towards a topic of discussion. To reinforce the grasp of the matter,
discussions with other people regarding the same topic is probable as Jensen (2011) further
notes. Once such knowledge is acquired it is difficult to change.
It is important to learn especially when it is a requirement on the road to building ones
career. Implementing it as well in the work place is important as Lanaj & Hollenbeck (2015)
assert. Learning takes places I phases. Evading any learning phase (Learning Is Forever. USA
Today Magazine, 144(2850), 58-59.) Creates a deficiency that becomes evident in ones dealings.
The lessons one learns in life are best taken to account and applying them at work. Mostly such
lessons encamp around ones relations with other people and growth of self-respect. Respect for
one-self always translates into respect for others (Nelson, 2015). An individual who upholds such
virtues are considered more for employment as opposed to persons that lack a sense of direction.
According to Obloj & Sengul (2012) cessation of learning process in career is unheard of.
People learn from mistakes (Reams & Reams, 2015) and from the experiences of other people.
Learning from anothers mistake shelters one from going down the same lane as the colleague
and this improves a person professionally. The process however is subjective as it depends on the
willingness of the individual. Individuals that are more open to learn are often productive and it

is evident in the manner in which they carry out their tasks. They usually have a touch of
professionalism. Closing one-self off to a learning opportunity is counterproductive.
Journal 3: Professionalism in the Work Place
It is important to create an impression of professionalism in the workplace. Treating
others with respect for their work considering their dignity (Sheafer, 2014) is the basis for
civility. Professional etiquette is imperative when dealing with others at work. One should take
caution not to offend the others in their speech or actions. Most incidences that have particular
concern are those that are discriminatory (Showry & Manasa, 2014). Discrimination can take
various forms of race, religion among others and has the ultimate result of demeaning another
person. People should then take into consideration for other peoples feelings. A show of respect
to their beliefs and traditions reinforces the atmosphere at work. One should dress in accordance
with what they do (Nelson, 2015). Decency should be kept in mind when choosing what to wear.
In a hospitable working atmosphere where every individual is respected the products are mostly
fruitful.
In the office environment, a distance exists between workmates as they are only
acquaintances. Obloj & Sengul (2012)) encourage the notion that despite the distance, it is of
great value to be kind and a nice smile gives the respondent a feeling of hospitality. In hospitality
industry in particular requires that service providers be kind and warm to give the customer
surety and the feeling of being in control. It improves satisfaction in the customers according to
(Reams & Reams, 2015). Holding a smile even when things are not right is difficult. The feeling
at the end of the day that I have made a customer satisfied is precious.
Taking up responsibility for ones action shows capability and strength instead of blaming
others. Blaming others lags the process of solving a problem (Sheafer, 2014). Enmity also surges
as a result and this factors causes a redundancy is the progress of the entire company.

Coordination and team work is also important to me. In a group I keep alert to ensure the teams
activities are in line with the goals set out. Letting others as well express their personality into
their task in the group work is also important to me. Creativity and also innovation emerge from
collective effort into a project.
Journal 4: Role of Self-Management
Managing ones tasks and activities is important in order to increase the productivity. A
measure of self-control also displays an accountable person. This relates to attending all
stipulated on time. Refraining from using my mobile for texting and making calls is a practice
that is discouraged. In order to improve other peoples esteem on a subject matter, positivism and
optimism are useful tools. If the morale diminishes, optimism lifts it out and ensures security for
the project to be completed. I try to improve on area of deficit because I enjoy serving
passionately. Often the lessons I learn in life help to improve on my personality. It is also
inevitable that other also helps shape and curve out my person. Taking a negative situation or
encounter with a person and converting it into a positive situation builds character (Showry &
Manasa, 2014). Challenges are also mandatory in solutions making progress. It requires critical
thinking to be able to find and effect the solution.
In giving service to customers, keenness and giving them attention is important to me.
Having in mind that each person would like to be appreciated, I listen and make
recommendations afterwards. Listening as Stevenson (2012) notes is different from hearing
which is simply perceiving sound through the ears. Listening in contrast involves relating to the
speaker, integrating the message and reacting what another person is saying. As part of
communication also non-verbal cues are important. I am able to notice non-verbal cues and
determine altogether what one is feeling. This attribute equips me with the patience to listen to
others with problems and at the end help them resolve their challenges. My colleagues find it

easy to speak to me about their troubles and Im also always ready to listen. Keeping prejudice at
bay is also important as a way to respect other people and enable them to freely in their
workspace. When people interact well they find comfort in expressing themselves to each other.
They then understand each other and working together becomes easier. Sharing personal
experiences however is not popular among men but in women.
Journal 5: Results from Learning
From the learning debut I find that maintaining respect for others and myself is key to
success. Respecting myself in my opinion is completing tasks on time and managing them
appropriately. Giving each task its priority and avoiding procrastination is important. The
perception that people have towards me is crucial in building my character in the professional
world. Negative opinions about me and also critiques should be stepping stones towards selfexamination and learning how to better myself. First impression also matters and it is difficult to
change. It creates an image of who you are in brief. Employers are likely to employ people that
create a good first impression. Also they are likely to hire someone likeable. Dressing in
accordance with the occasion also matters. It prevents people drawing unnecessary attention
towards me. Covering up is best in an office to eliminate also chances of creating a negative
image.
People learn from each other and also from their mistakes. The lessons learnt are well in
order if they are implemented. Keeping an open mind towards learning new things is profitable
because it improves ones character especially the aspect of professionalism. Rejecting that
learning opportunity affects the way one carries out their duties. Discovering new things
altogether is a life-time activity. The process of learning is continuous and the wells from which
to acquire knowledge are bottomless. The chances to re-discover oneself are within reach and

require only one to tap into it. There are (Su, 2015) episodes in life that remain unraveled so that
knowing them takes other people.
Journal 6: Founding a Career and Not Only a Job
In order to form a well-grounded career, some strategies to achieve that are necessary.
First, I would like to lay out what I would want to improve if not perfect. Managing myself is the
most important step in this journey to cultivate a meaningful career. The aim is to clearly define
my person so that it may become evident to other people as well. Creating an inspiration for my
work will be through changing my altitude. My perception of things, that is, ideas, people,
projects and others will inevitably change how I fair. Creating initiatives and being proactive also
will go a long way in creating networks that are vital in building a career. Showing support and
willing fully giving it to people that need speaks well of a person (Taylor, Wang & Zhan, 2012). I
shall embrace this notion so as to be of good service to others. It is also a good quality of a leader
that shows support.
Professionalism is a prerequisite in building a successful career. It will involve a series of
self-criticisms and to review that which needs critical attention. The manner in which I will
conduct my affairs at work will be of respect to other people. To avoid also condescending and
judgmental attitude towards colleagues is well in order to maintain good relations. Another
strategy to build a career is paying attention is detail. Having a sharp eye to notice the little
things improves capability to address issues confidently.
Journal 7: the type of a leader
To grow confidence in myself is also a building block. Facing potential employers with
confidence besides my degree and other qualifications will set a picture of professionalism.
Having qualities that other people emulate is profitable. Leadership requires one to acquire and
develop traits so that others can follow. Investing also in other leadership qualities such as

motivating others towards a certain goal will help in orienting towards a successful career.
Increasing morale must come from within (Sutherland, Gosling & Jelinek, 2015). It is impossible
to motivate others while Im down trodden. I must increase my ability to lift myself out of a
situation that is challenging. To reinforce my personality, being knowledgeable is a requirement.
An informed individual makes sound decisions and makes contributions that are meaningful.
Knowledge adds onto diversity where a person is able to critically asses a difficulty in a situation
and provides credible solutions.
The reflection is on an individual basis. An individual requires equipping himself or
herself with knowledge. The knowledge is acquired through learning. Openness to acquiring
information reveals itself in the persons behavior and attitude. Such an individual is usually
multifaceted and is more desirable to employ. Building character at the individual level helps to
form a team that works well together and delivers their tasks on time. I intend to build my
character to achieve the best that is in me.
Journal 8: the role of teamwork
With regard to respecting other people, considering their feelings when dealing with them
is crucial. Although the formalities must be maintained at work, showing kindness and concern
for others is considerate. People form networks this way and are able to work together. It is
beneficial to a company also that employees get along well with each to increase productivity.
Respecting colleagues also means that work done together should be accredited to all that
participated. Taking credit solely shows lack of integrity. It causes distrust among the workmates.
Possible future employers may look into the past history through various channels during
considerations for employment. Reports of your poor behavior in the previous employment
disregard new employment opportunities. Interviewers, who are often employers, employ

someone whom they like as they share similar characters. A dislikeable person is less likely to
get the job.
Journal 9: Greening Tourism
I believe greening of tourism is one way of ensuring tourism promotion. Greening tourism and
hotels lead to the creation of green hotels. Green hotels association say Green hotels are
environmentally-friendly properties whose managers are eager to institute programs that save
water, save energy, reduce solid waste, while saving money and protecting the Earth . Hartmann
and Apaolaza-Ibanez (2006) show that numerous surveys carried out in the developing and
developed worlds show a level of environmental concern among the majority of population. This
majority population forms the customers and to ensure customer satisfaction, I think that it is
best to ensure that products and services provided are ecofriendly. D'Astous and Mathieu (2008)
say that Consumers like companies that care about the environment and are ready to pay more
for their products. I also think that by greening tourism the relationship between company and
the customers intensifies. This is because the green services provided have the environments best
interest at heart, products and services provided have great health benefits.
From the knowledge I have gained throughout the course, I think that greening tourism is a
marketing strategy. It ensures an organization remains competitive. Also ensuring proper
marketing requires that all the information in the products and services is well explained to
customers. This is because (Grant, 2008) show that Green customers are known to be skeptical;
they are looking for facts and reliable information. In addition to that, I believe that greening can
only be sustainable only if the companies are willing to go beyond the minimal regulations
required to proactive trustworthy ecological activism. Another marketing consideration to be put
in place is to involve customers in environmental protection in order to connect them with

brands. Involvement enables them to influence and actively contribute in achieving ecological
goals. In other words, it is important to establish emotional connections between companies,
customers and the environment (Hays and Dosen 2014).
Some of the profitability considerations show how green hotels can make and use their
profits .From experience and knowledge of tourism industry growth, ability to make profits
majorly trickles down to quality, price and customers willingness to purchase the products and
services provided. Maintenance of the environmental standards by using profits reaped is also a
factor for consideration.
Journal 10: Technology Impact on Future Tourism
I am a believer that technology is the best thing that ever came into existence and it has led to
the growth of tourism. Law & Buhalis (2008) say that tourism is a service-intense industry which
has gone for many decades hand in hand with technology.to further expound on this t technology
has not only become an integral part of tourism but has also revolutionized the way travel is
planned (Buhalis & Schoefer, 2003), business is conducted and tourism services and experiences
are created and consumed (Stamboulis and Skayannis, 2003). This has opened new opportunities,
challenges and potential in the field (Gretzel, Fesenmaier & O'Leary, 2006).
From experience in working within the tourism industry, I have seen how technology has been
used as a marketing tool. Most studies explain that since the 1990s Internet was the main
instrument of tourism marketing, because it enabled marketers to create static online
brochures .Technology has allowed online marketing to move a notch higher since internet
accessibility has become much easier especially now that the world is going digital. Information
technology and telecommunications has made it possible to inform clients, to promote or even

sell tourism products through the internet. I have seen technology advancement happen every
day hence tourism is bound to growing as technology does.
Applications to promote tourism have been developed. Such applications are those of intelligent
systems and geographic information systems. I believe that the Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) will help tourist access a variety of information which facilitates mobility tourist in transit
and at tourist destinations. This will make travel much easier and also give a sense of security to
tourist in the future. Intelligent systems in tourism have been developed to provide services
traditionally delivered by tour operators and travel guides, such as travel planning, navigation,
interpretation(kramar et al,2008).This systems will in future increase tourism because of their
convenience . They are expected to be of great help if they gather and process information
according to personal and immediate needs of the user. According to me this will help the large
movement of tourists reduce the fear that comes with increased risk and uncertainty in unknown
locations. This comes from insecurity caused by the same technology. Hence security
technologies will be developed to promote tourism.
