The Famous Charisma Discography

CB 215 STRING DRIVEN THING: It’s a Game / Are You a Rock and Roller
Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 7th Sept. 1973
The b-side was previously issued as a single a-side (CB 210) and has CB 210 scratched out in the run-off groove.
It’s a Game was later a hit for the Bay City Rollers, entering the UK charts on 7th May, 1977, reaching number 16.

CB 216 DARIEN SPIRIT: Magic Morning Sun / For all the Years
Original label design: Unknown – almost certainly MHS1
TNS issue date: 5th Oct. 1973
“For All the Years” was reissued, again as a b-side, on CB 235.

CB 217 CAPABILITY BROWN: Liar / Keep Death off the Road (Drive on the Pavement)
Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 26th Oct. 1973 / Nov. 1973 (PP)
Demo copies exist with both 2nd Nov. 1973 and 26th Oct. 1973 stated as release date. The b-side title is a piss-
take of a safety campaign then rampaging around the televisions and bill-boards of the UK and was currently a
schoolboy joke. The a-side was also previously issued on a promotional-only single (BCP 7) in late 1972, coupled
with a Spreadeagle track, Nightingale Lane.

CB 218 JACK THE LAD: Why Can’t I Be Satisfied / Make Me Happy

Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 2nd Nov. 1973

CB 219 KENNY ROWE: Jesus / The Water Song

Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 23rd Nov. 1973
Subcredited with “(and the Voices of Capability Brown)”

CB 220 DOGGEREL BANK: Tiny Seed of Love / Down on the Farm

Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 23rd Nov. 1973
Promotional issues exist with the same track both sides. TNS relists this with a release date of the week beginning
11th Jan 1974.

CB 221 CLIFFORD T. WARD: Scullery / To an Air Hostess

Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 30th Nov. 1973 / Jan. 1974 (MMSC3) Deleted: 1977 (MMSC3)

CB 222 DARIEN SPIRIT: Magic Morning Sun / Hennessy Gun

Original label design: Unknown – almost certainly MHS1
TNS issue date: 8th Feb. 1974

CB 223 STRING DRIVEN THING: I’ll Sing One for You / To See You
Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 8th Mar. 1974 / Feb. 1974 (PP)

CB 224 GENESIS: I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe) / Twilight Alehouse
Original label design: MHS1
TNS issue date: 25th Jan. 1974 / April 1974 (MMSC3) Deleted: 1977 (MMSC3)
Demo copies include a release date of “25.1.74”. Exists with both 4-prong and solid centres. A-side runoff includes
the message, “Porky knows what he likes Trishy”; the b-side says “Pecko + Melo”, whatever that means. The a-
side is an edited version of the track from Selling England by the Pound (CAS 1074); the b-side is a belated
release for the concert favourite, recorded in 1972, and previously issued on a flexidisc given away with Zigzag.

This could have been a big hit for Genesis, but they were reluctant to appear on Top Of the Pops. To get around
this, a promotional film was made for use on TOTP (complete with Gabriel engaging in Stackridgesque yokel
dancing). However, Genesis were not happy with the film, so it was shelved. It was another six years before
Genesis agreed to appear on TOTP, with Turn it on Again, which was memorable mainly for the miming.
