COmmanders Report
Compatriots,
I hope everyone is doing well and have enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend. I would like to
Thank 2nd Lt Brown, Tommy and Barry for presiding over the May meeting as I was called away on
business in North Carolina and I was not able to reschedule.
I reflect over the month and thank of what a wonderful Confederate Memorial Day service Susan
Hathaway and the Virginia Flaggers presented on May 7th at Oakwood Cemetery. I was a beautiful site
to see all of our Confederate heroes marked with one of our many flags. I was also a blessing that the
weather held out for the entire ceremony. Thanks to Blair for presenting the Camps wreath and Bill
Brown for participating in the Honor Guard. If you have not been to this service I would recommend
you do next year as it was most enjoyable.
Thank you to Bill and Blair for presenting the Wreath at the Virginia War Memorial and honoring
our Confederate Heroes and all the Veterans that have died in the service of their Nation.
Remember our Camp Raffle is on June 7 so get all your tickets sold and turned in at the meeting
for max participation. I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting on June 7th at Dulce Vita
Italian restaurant at 6pm with meeting following at 7pm.
God Bless,
Commander
Ken Norman
Greetings Compatriots Well the summer is finally here and with it comes the sounds of lawn mowers trying to
keep up with the overdose of rainfall we have been receiving.
It is also at this time of the year that we remember and thank our Good Lord for the men and women who fell in,
what they believed, was the defense of their homes and families. We should not only remember the fallen but
the maimed and crippled veterans who are still with us and in need of our care and prayers.
Compatriot Oren Kevin Mowels is continuing to improve in his battle with cancer and expects to be at our
next Camp meeting on the first Tuesday of June. Please continue to pray for a lasting healing for Compatriot
Kevin.
Lisa Marie Clinger, the Daughter of Compatriot Tommy Clinger, is continuing to heal from her surgery and is
receiving physical therapy at home.
Compatriot George Edward Winn Jr. has completed the cataract surgery to both eyes and his eyesight is greatly
improved. Unfortunately, George is also experiencing heart problems which sap him of his strength. He has
been told by his physician that the arteries going to his heart have deteriorated to the point where stints can no
longer be put in. Nevertheless, Compatriot George is continuing to plod along and recently performed at the
George Winn Memorial Park for a Blue Grass Festival. George created this park to encourage the continuance
of historical Virginia Bluegrass Music and to have a venue for young musicians to perform.
Our good compatriot Hugh Hawthorne underwent surgery on his wrists and the right wrist has healed nicely.
The left wrist still has a way to go to completely heal and Hugh is doing physical therapy on his legs. Hugh
expects to be at our next camp meeting but continue to keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
A reminder: If you know of any of our brothers or sisters in the camp who are ill or having difficulty of any sort,
please don't hesitate to let me know. I can be reached at home at 794-0704.

News
Despite many objections over massive SCV monies being spent on the City's Gate. Simply to
move it a few feet. The Virginia Division went ahead with their next "White Elephant" project
of out of control spending. Now after many months and at least $16,000 in spending. The
project sits unfinished.
God Bless the Virginia Flaggers,4 new massive roadside Confederate Battle Flags were
dedication and added to the landscape in Danville. Over 50 Southern Patriots attended these
events on May 21st. This brings the total flag count in Danville to 13.
Camp members continue to educate the public and protest the atrocities committed by the
VMFA and the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Camp members help place 2300 plus flags on the Graves of many fallen Confederate heroes
in Oakwood Cemetery for the Confederate Memorial Day service on May 7th hosted by the
Virginia Flaggers.
On May 19th camp members collected the flags from graves at Oakwood Cemetery to be
saved for future events. The Oakwood Restoration Committee of the Virginia Division Sons of
Confederate Veterans had threatened to trash them. These honorable men assembled
quickly to save the flags.
