Brothers and sisters, let us not be closed

to the newness that God wants to bring
into our lives! Are we often weary,
disheartened, and sad? Do we feel
weighed down by our sins? Do we think
that we wont be able to cope? Let us not close our
hearts, let us not lose confidence, let us never give
up. Pope Francis, The Church of Mercy

Our seventh Parish Monthly Outreach (PMO)

Project of Mercy took place on Thursday, May
26. This project was graciously sponsored by our
Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA). 12
CDA members, along with Deacon Tom Tucker
and our very own Pastor, Rev. Octavio Muguerza
humbly participated in our second Project of
Mercy for May. Our beautiful ladies helped bake
lasagnacarefully followed Deacons instructions
on the proper method of seasoning and buttering
the garlic bread, watched Father O expertly toss
the salad, and then lovingly served a delicious
dinner to the residents at SAMMinistries.
Approximately 40 families went through the
serving linewith many coming back for seconds!
SAMMinistries is an interfaith ministry whose
mission is to help the homeless and those at risk of
becoming homeless attain self-sufficiency by
offering, with dignity and compassion, shelter,
housing, and services. SAMMinistries helps
prevents homelessness in San Antonio through a
compassionate, holistic approach that brings selfsufficiency, pride and dignity to struggling
families with nowhere else to turn.
After dinner, the families returned to their quarters
with tummies filledfeeling loved and cared for.
Thank you to our CDA members for utilizing their
God-given talents and gifts and demonstrating
Gods mercifulness while serving the families
temporarily residing at SAMMinistries.

Life, Justice and Peace

We have undertaken the initiative of CPR

classes for the health and well-being of
our parishioners and perhaps for your own
family members. You may also be aware that we have
had some parishioners in need of help during Mass. We
are offering a CPR class in the event that we are in the
presence of someone who needs our help. The
American Heart Association has long provided classes
to learn to be ready for emergencies as we never know
when they can occur. The need is for immediate
intervention. If you wish to help someone survive a
heart attack or stroke, sign up for this Adult CPR class.
The class will be Saturday June 18 from 9 AM to 12
noon. The instructors are AHA certified and your
certificate is good for 2 years. The class does require
standing, kneeling, and using your hands and arms for
doing compressions. If you have physical limitations,
this may not be the right class for you. Father Octavio
is supportive of this venture and wants parishioners to
be prepared to help their families and each other. To
assist those who want to help others, the church will
pay half of the fee ($25.00) and the parishioner is asked
to pay the remaining $25.00. We need at least 30-40
parishioners to sign up, preferably 6 to 8 from each
regularly attended Mass time. This is in the event of
need of help during Mass, we might have someone who
has undergone the training to assist. Please contact:
Rose Caballero @ 361-443-6556 or rosecab@
yahoo.com. to sign up or for more information.

St John Neumann Needs You!!!

Looking for a great opportunity to get involved at your
Parish? The SJN Festival Planning Committee is
seeking additional individuals, who are willing to lend
some expertise in the planning and Point of Contact
delivery of some of our Fall Festival Activities. There
is an abundant amount of planning and coordination
that is involved in our major annual fundraiser. We are
currently meeting once a month and would love to have
you join us. If interested in participating, please contact
one of our festival co-chairs (Louie Gallegos at 210367-4577 or Bob Dunk at 210-655-6352).

TENTH SUNDAY IM ORDINARY TIME

WELCOME!
During May we welcomed eight children
into Christs Church through water and the
Holy Spirit. Just as God gave these children
the gift of life when they were born,
Baptism gave them the gift of Faith and
Eternal Life. The Parents and Godparents represented
the entire Church and served as the instruments
through which God gave each child faith. Let us, the
parishioners of St. John Neumann, celebrate these
childrens
Baptism and encourage the lifelong
journey of faith this sacrament initiates.

FAITH OR BECOMING A CATHOLIC?
DO YOU KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO IS
INTERESTED IN THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
If you wish to receive the sacraments of Baptism,
Confirmation, and Holy Communion, the Rite of Christian
Initiation is the process to become a member of the Catholic

addition, RCIA encourages prayer and works of mercy for a
deeper spiritual relationship with God. The Sunday
celebration of the Holy Mass and Sacraments provide many
graces of Gods Love and Mercy. If you, a loved one or a
neighbor would like to REGISTER, you can do so by
picking up a registration form in the church foyer or stop
by the Parish office to register and if you need further
information call (210) 654-1643.
