GENERATOR
The synchronous generator shall be hydrogen and water inner cooled,
directly driven by the steam turbine at 3000 rpm. The generator shall be
three phase, two pole, cylindrical rotor, Wye connected machine with phase
and neutral terminals brought out for connection to isolated phase busduct.
The turbine-generator shall be connected to the utility network through Deltastar transformer. The generator shall be non-effectively earthed through a
single phase distribution transformer provided along with secondary loading
resistor. The generator shall be capable of operating alone or in parallel with
generators and / or utility grid.
The excitation system shall be brushless/static excitation system to meet the
performance requirement.
The generator shall be designed for waterhydrogen cooling of stator
windings, phase connectors and terminals bushing. The rotor windings are
direct hydrogen cooled and stator core is hydrogen cooled.
Neutral grounding cubicle shall be provided and shall house a neutral
earthing transformer and neutral earthing resistor.

General
Standards
The design, manufacture, assembly and testing as well as performance of
the equipment shall conform to the relevant IS specifications (latest revision).
In case the Contractor is not in a position to comply fully with certain IS
specifications, or in respect of certain items for which there are no IS
specifications,
the
Contractor
may
base
his
proposals
on
IEC/BS/VDE/DIN/GB (Chinese National Standard, which is equivalent to
international standards) recommendations or other reputed national or
international standards subject to the approval of the purchaser.
All equipment supplied and all work done including system design and
detailed engineering shall also comply with the statutory requirements of the
Government of India, the Government of Karnataka and with the Indian
Electricity Rules, Chinese standards or their equivalent international
standards.
Climatic Conditions
The climatic conditions generally prevailing at Karnataka have already been
described in other volume.
Electrical Equipment selection and derating shall generally be based on
ambient temperature of 44 deg. C. For specific hot areas like boiler, etc. the
ambient temperature conditions shall be taken into consideration and
equipment suitably derated where necessary. In hot areas of higher
temperature conditions, the equipment shall be adequately protected against
damage from radiant heat and hot air.
The equipment offered shall be suitable for smooth efficient and trouble free
service in the tropical humid climate prevailing at karnataka.
Make and interchangeability
This specification is issued for procurement of specified equipment and
system preferably from indigenous suppliers who may make use of imported
systems / sub-systems / equipment / parts and who have valid collaboration
agreement with reputed foreign suppliers with experience in design and
supply of similar systems as specified. The contractor shall furnish division
list of supplies from foreign and Indian sources indicating the name of the
agency or make against the respective items. It shall be the responsibility of

the contractor to arrange the import licence for the imported items offered
and to co-ordinate the supply of equipment from foreign and Indian sources
and execute the contract within the agreed time schedule.
The make of major equipment shall be limited to preferred makes indicated
under chapter List of preferred makes. If the Contractor prefers to supply
makes other than from the Preferred Makes list, it should be with the
approval of the Purchaser.
Makes of all other equipment and accessories are subject to prior approval
by the purchaser.
Similar equipment and components shall be of same make, equipments of
same type and rating shall be interchangeable.
The purchaser has the option of selecting the manufacturers of electrical
equipment, instruments and controls and any other specialized items in the
interest of standardization and the contractor shall have to supply equipment
of the particular make, if so required.
3.2
DESIGN CRITERIA
The standardised voltage levels shall be as per Section C2 of the
specification.
Permissible variations:
The system unit/plant equipment shall be designed suitable for variation in
voltage and frequency as indicated in the table below:
