SCOPE AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF WORK


1.0

The scope of Contractor shall include supply and commissioning of f all


electrical equipment required for the main power plant units and auxiliaries
covered under their scope for 2 units of 300 MW,

1.1

The major equipment/system covered under scope of work shall be as


follows:
Generator & accessories such as cooling system, generator fire detection
and protection devicessystem, PT and surge absorber cubicle, excitation
system, automatic voltage regulator,generator surge protection panel,
nNeutral Grounding cubicle and associated electrical equipment.
Control, protection and metering systems for generator including Control,
protection and metering systems including control/relay panelsgenerator
control panel, station auxiliary control panel (SACP), generator protection
replay panel, and synchronising panels for generatorunit auxiliary control
panel (UACP), generator recorder panel, transformers.. Auto-synchroniser
shall be in SECs scope.
Drive motors for all rotating mechanical equipment with gear reducer and
coupling wherever required.
MCCs for ESP and Soot Blower System. All control panel, control cables
related to ESP and soot blower system. The battery limit for the contractor
termination point for ESP system is ESP MCC in coming terminal and for
soot blower system incoming terminal of soot blower MCC.
Local Panels, Interconnection schedule and cable schedule, cable glands,
lu, lugs, cable lags, ying and cable termination, earthing leads up to
purchaser main earth grid for ESP and Soot blower system. .

Any other electrical system if required to make main plant equipment (SG
and STG) complete shall be considered in scope of contractor supply.

1.2

The technical requirement of the main equipment involved as per the


scheme are covered in technical specification section and other appropriate
sections forming part of this specification.

2.0

ELABORATION OF ELECTRICAL SCOPE OF WORK


The scope of work and different design requirement have been given in
different chapters however for ease of understanding it is concised in
following paras :

1.1

GENERATOR
The synchronous generator shall be hydrogen and water inner cooled,
directly driven by the steam turbine at 3000 rpm. The generator shall be
three phase, two pole, cylindrical rotor, Wye connected machine with phase
and neutral terminals brought out for connection to isolated phase busduct.
The turbine-generator shall be connected to the utility network through Deltastar transformer. The generator shall be non-effectively earthed through a
single phase distribution transformer provided along with secondary loading
resistor. The generator shall be capable of operating alone or in parallel with
generators and / or utility grid.
The excitation system shall be brushless/static excitation system to meet the
performance requirement.
The generator shall be designed for waterhydrogen cooling of stator
windings, phase connectors and terminals bushing. The rotor windings are
direct hydrogen cooled and stator core is hydrogen cooled.
Neutral grounding cubicle shall be provided and shall house a neutral
earthing transformer and neutral earthing resistor.

2.2

LT SWITCHGEARS

Suitable number of 415V motor control centers required for soot


blower drives and for ESP.
2.3

CABLING

All control cables and cable accessories, cable installation, cable


terminations with necessary junction boxes for ESP and soot blower
system are under the scope of Contractor.
2.4

MOTORS
All HT motors shall be suitable for 6.6 kV, 3 phase, 50 Hz and LV motors
shall be suitable for 415V, 3 Phase, 50 Hz power supply. Motors of rating
above 200kW shall be controlled from HT switchgear through VCBs/SF6
breakers. All LT motors shall be controlled by air break, electromagnetic type
contactors.
6.6 kV/415V AC motors and 220 V DC motors shall be provided to all
unit/station auxiliaries covered under this package as per system
requirement.
Variable Frequency Drives along with all associated equipment may be
provided wherever deemed suitable
Voltage dip on starting of the largest motor shall be limited to 15% of the
nominal voltage at the motor terminals.

2.5.

EARTHING
Earthing mat in and outside TG hall shall be provided by Purchaser., Aall
earth leads from equipment included in this package shall be connected by
two leads to the main earth mat. by contractor.

2.6

CONTROLS
The control, indication, measurements, annunciation and sequential event
logging for each generator and its subsystem shall be provided in DCS. A
separate hardwired Unit control panel shall be provided for manual
synchronising of generator by the contractor. The details of the control are
specified elsewhere in the specification.

3.0

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM DESIGN

3.1

General
Standards
The design, manufacture, assembly and testing as well as performance of
the equipment shall conform to the relevant IS specifications (latest revision).
In case the Contractor is not in a position to comply fully with certain IS
specifications, or in respect of certain items for which there are no IS
specifications,
the
Contractor
may
base
his
proposals
on
IEC/BS/VDE/DIN/GB (Chinese National Standard, which is equivalent to
international standards) recommendations or other reputed national or
international standards subject to the approval of the purchaser.
All equipment supplied and all work done including system design and
detailed engineering shall also comply with the statutory requirements of the
Government of India, the Government of Karnataka and with the Indian
Electricity Rules, Chinese standards or their equivalent international
standards.
Climatic Conditions
The climatic conditions generally prevailing at Karnataka have already been
described in other volume.
Electrical Equipment selection and derating shall generally be based on
ambient temperature of 44 deg. C. For specific hot areas like boiler, etc. the
ambient temperature conditions shall be taken into consideration and
equipment suitably derated where necessary. In hot areas of higher
temperature conditions, the equipment shall be adequately protected against
damage from radiant heat and hot air.
The equipment offered shall be suitable for smooth efficient and trouble free
service in the tropical humid climate prevailing at karnataka.
Make and interchangeability
This specification is issued for procurement of specified equipment and
system preferably from indigenous suppliers who may make use of imported
systems / sub-systems / equipment / parts and who have valid collaboration
agreement with reputed foreign suppliers with experience in design and
supply of similar systems as specified. The contractor shall furnish division
list of supplies from foreign and Indian sources indicating the name of the
agency or make against the respective items. It shall be the responsibility of

the contractor to arrange the import licence for the imported items offered
and to co-ordinate the supply of equipment from foreign and Indian sources
and execute the contract within the agreed time schedule.
The make of major equipment shall be limited to preferred makes indicated
under chapter List of preferred makes. If the Contractor prefers to supply
makes other than from the Preferred Makes list, it should be with the
approval of the Purchaser.
Makes of all other equipment and accessories are subject to prior approval
by the purchaser.
Similar equipment and components shall be of same make, equipments of
same type and rating shall be interchangeable.
The purchaser has the option of selecting the manufacturers of electrical
equipment, instruments and controls and any other specialized items in the
interest of standardization and the contractor shall have to supply equipment
of the particular make, if so required.
3.2

DESIGN CRITERIA
The standardised voltage levels shall be as per Section C2 of the
specification.
Permissible variations:
The system unit/plant equipment shall be designed suitable for variation in
voltage and frequency as indicated in the table below:
