LENT 2016

COMMENT

There is no doubt that working together brings

great success. This has been demonstrated
throughout the school this term to fantastic
effect. It is an essential part of growing up to
learn that when we trust those around us and
support each other, the enjoyment of any
activity is greater and good results follow.
This term has been remarkably successful.
A group of boys worked hard in the Art Room
almost every evening. They loved the camaraderie of it and two of them were rewarded
with scholarships. Those scholarships should
not be just seen as a reward for those two boys
but for the group as a whole.
This will go down as a very successful rugby
season.Throughout the school, great teamwork
led to excellent results and the undefeated 2nd
XV deserve huge praise for their efforts. The
fives team were by far the most successful in
recent memory and it was the strength in
depth that helped achieve those wonderful
tournament wins.
Robin Hood was wonderful and there can be
no greater example of working together than
every boy in the school being involved. This
creates amazing unity throughout the school;
working together for a shared purpose.

The 1st XV in their win against Ludgrove

Sunningdale 1st XV and 2nd XV. Played 20, won 18, lost 2. Points for: 770. Points against 98.

Rugby 1st XV

It seemed rather fitting that in what sadly appears to be our last season playing as a XV that the 1st team
should have such a remarkable and wonderful season. If the powers that be have their way then it is shall
be with our heads held high that we close a fabulous chapter on the game and the school's history.
The 1st XV this year were a superb side. What we lacked in size and height, being by quite some margin
the smallest team on the circuit, was made up for by bravery, determination and fearsome technical skill.
At the outset of the season things seemed stacked up against us with the captain out ill and not really on
games properly until after the first exeat. However, in Russell's absence Boyo, the vice captain and pack
leader, grew like a man possessed, marshalling his troops and playing sublime rugby, running with aggression
and guile, almost single-handedly beating a Milbourne Lodge side that were much fancied and did not
register another loss over the season. To be 12 points down at half time and come back to win by 12 was
extraordinary and a testament to both Boyo's leadership and his terrifying ability with the ball in hand.
Given the appalling weather conditions it was no surprise that the Wellesley House match was cancelled
but it was with much relief and no little thanks to both Headmasters that we were able to play on a firm
pitch against Brambletye, who were put to the sword with scant regard for their size 39-0. Bishopsgate
were similarly brushed aside 43-0 and we began to play with some real style, Hagg-Davies, the smallest
player on the team, often jinking his way through the flailing arms of defenders from the wing.We proved
far too strong for Dorset House winning 54-5 and began to show just how dominant we could be as a
team, however, our sternest test so far in the season came against a mighty Woodcote House side that
had humbled us at the end of the Michaelmas term. It was a titanic struggle and really either side could
have won, but through sheer grit and determination we held our nerve and squeaked through the victors
away at Woodcote 10-15. It must be mentioned that had it not been for the efforts of Hinchliffe at the
breakdown, constantly turning the ball over just when we were being pinned on our try line we could not
have won. Going into the match against Horris Hill we felt confident that we could match the much
vaunted and fancied side, however, in what was certainly the most controversial game of the season we
had a try disallowed and were exceptionally unlucky to lose 7-12. The 1st XV had played like lions to
defend their unbeaten record and it seemed terribly unfair that it should be lost in this way away from
home. Senior mi in particular put in a characteristically doughty performance in the sodden conditions.

World Book Day

FORM PRIZES

World Book Day was a really special event this year, partly because we changed the rules slightly and
turned into World Book Week! We had a smorgasbord of literary events throughout the week that were
fun and interesting and most importantly, all to do with the joys of reading and the power of words.
Amongst other bookish delights we were lucky enough to be visited by the renowned, Oxford based poet,
George Chopping who read some of his fantastic and whimsical poetry and got the entire school to
produce haikus and acrostic poems. We played host to N. S. Blackman, author of the popular Secret
Dinosaur series, who held some brilliant creative writing workshops with the junior school. We were also
visited by Theo Brun who is a novelist and who talked to the boys about what it takes to be a writer
professionally and the importance of hanging on to your creative dreams, no matter how small as one
never knows where they might take you. Interspersed with all this literary inspiration was the usual
Sunningdale mix of teachers in costume, wonderful art, based on favourite novels, Harry Potter in French,
an attempt to write a school novel using the game consequences, and lots of fun! Thank you so much to
all who helped.

years. Senior ma should be picked out for particular praise, having come 60th in the country in
Paper 1 and Tirado did exceptionally in Paper 2,
coming seventh. Sunningdale was given a special
mention as a small school punching above its
weight.Well doneTirado, Hawkey and Senior ma.

French Food Tasting

In French, as part of learning about French food, Form IV enjoyed a
macaroon degustation (thanks to a kind parent), where they had to
put into practice their learning of the different flavours, as well as a
French cheese tasting

House Dinner

The Sunningdale Concert is a much-anticipated and heart-warming part of the school year, full of fun and
wit. The concert also captures the passing of time as the small, uncertain youngsters in the chorus line
grow up and take on the lead roles with brimming confidence and swagger. Robin Hood was another
ambitious production with a challenging script and lots of big songs which were performed with
unforgettable style and enthusiasm.

Girdlestone were the winners of the House

Competition this term. We had Brie in breadcrumbs with cranberry sauce, steak and skinny
chips and chocolate fondant, all beautifully made
by Darren and Kevin.

Old Boys News

Arthur as Robin and Pearson as Guy of Gisborne played the two main parts to absolute perfection. The
role of Robin was difficult to get right with a large number of lines and songs. Arthur pulled it off with
considerable panache and bags of confidence. Pearson, as the dastardly Guy of Gisborne, was also excellent.
His deft and witty turn of phrase, pantomime gestures and natural comedic turns had the audience in
stitches throughout.
To the horror of the boys, nearly half the cast had to play the fairer sex. Senior Mi as the Nell the Innkeeper,
the indignant Midge the Miller (Cartwright),Wilson the hard of hearing, Lady Gwendolyn the ungrateful
(Grinling) and the three ugly sisters (Barrett, Jackson mi and min) to name but a few, were all noticeably
uncomfortable in their frocks which only added to the entertainment.
The large supporting cast clearly enjoyed themselves thoroughly, aye, aye-ing their way through
the script with huge enthusiasm, which duly rubbed
off on the audience. Robins band of merry men
including his trusty side-kick Will Scarlet (Davies),
the burly Friar Tuck (Warde-Norbury), Tucks
impish mini-me (Phelps) and Dyachenko ma as the
towering Little John, created much merriment on
stage. In the Gisborne camp (boo-hiss), Saville
Sneath played a convincing Oswald the (very) Unready supported by the incompetent and comical
sheriffs deputies (Horton, Lamb and Berridge).
A mention must go to Mrs Mackay who whipped
the boys into musical shape. Robins duet with Friar
Tuck was sung with great gusto and the choir pulled
off a particularly tricky three-part madrigal with just
a hint of Blackadder! However, who could forget
the love duet between Robin and his blushing Maid
Marion (the visibly squirming and brilliant Hopton
Ma), who together gave Bryan Adams a run for his
money with a sterling rendition of Everything I Do.
As Director, Amy once again deserves special
praise. Her vision in selecting the right play and
casting the right boys, her energy in coordinating the dizzying array of moving parts, and her enviable
patience in getting the most from a group of young boys (distracted by other activities and unsure of their
lines in the crucial final days of rehearsal), must be heavily praised! Of course, all this would not have
happened without the sterling work backstage by both boys and staff who designed and lit the stage,
played accompanying music, dressed and made up the cast, and generally got involved.
A huge well done to you all Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly what a play!

Congratulations to Alexander Knidersley on the

birth of his second son, to Emily Lewis on the
birth of her son and to Frederick Windsor, a
second daughter. Moritz Flick is studying in
Tehran and George Oliver will be running the
London Marathon in aid of a soldiers Charity.
We regret to announce the death of Mikie
Strathmore in February.

Table Tennis
The table tennis season consisted of an in-house
Sunday tournament where the final of Hawkey
versus Mueller came as a result of an intense
group format followed by the unforgiving knockout stages. The final was played out in front of
the rest of the school following Sunday chapel
and it was Hawkey who ultimately held his
nerve. In teamplay, two away fixtures versus our
neighbours Papplewick ensued. In the first, using
the singles format, the senior team of Buxton,
Mueller-Ansar, Efemuai and Hawkey came up
against some formidable opponents. Although
winning some of their legs, Papplewick edged
ahead and took the honours. In the juniors,
things were a lot tighter. Osborne, De Carlos,
Henderson and Lazaro mi. competed really well
and eventually only lost out by the odd leg. In
the second of the fixtures, doubles was the
theme. Buxton and Efemuai fought valiantly,
often displaying some terrific play. The second
pairing of Lamb and Arthur struggled to contain
their superior opponents but dug deep throughout! In the junior section, Osborne and De
Carlos were unbeaten in their three matches,
whilst Berridge and Jackson mi. put up a good
fight in winning one out of their three matches.

Rugby 2nd XII

UNBEATEN SEASON PLAYED 9 WON 9

It has been a quite remarkable term of rugby for the 2nd XII of Sunningdale and credit must go to every
single boy who pulled on the famous chequered blue shirt this term. Nine games played, nine games won.
Over 400 points scored with everyone in the team contributing to our try tally of 71 and with only 2
conceded all term. This team will certainly go down in the record books of Sunningdale and live long in
the memory.
Highlights include completing the double, home and away, over local rivals Woodcote House, strong away
wins at Bishopsgate (53-0),Ashdown House (57-0) and Brambletye (69-0) to name just a few. The two
standout fixtures of the term were against Horris Hill (26-0) and our biggest game of the season away at
Ludgrove (19-7). These two fixtures really defined our season and gave our boys the belief that anything
is possible if they work hard and never give up even when the chips are down.Within 5 minutes of kick
off against Horris Hill we were a man down due to injury. The boys were fired up by this and put in a
near faultless performance and showed real grit and determination to wear them down to secure victory.
Then for the game of the season against Ludgrove. This was a huge game and the boys knew they had to
be at their best. The first half was a cagey affair and we went in at halftime 7-0 down, a position we had
not experienced as a team this season. The second half was probably the best rugby we played all
season. To score 19 unanswered points in the manner we did really epitomised the team spirit,
togetherness and character this group of boys have exhibited all season. I believe no 2nds team has ever
ended a term of rugby unbeaten and the boys should be proud of their achievements. They have been a
pleasure to coach.

Well done Boys! Champions!

Passion and mud would be the two words that

I think best describe the 3rd's season. Mud
normally features in games of rugby, but this year,
thanks to the January rains, it has been such a
boggy feature that the 3rds have not once been
allowed to practise on their proper pitch; we
have become adept at moving cones around and
cheerfully accepting our harsh lot in life! Perhaps,
out of such hardship it is only to be expected
that a great spirit would be borne and that is
why I also mention passion. We have not been
the most organised team, we have not generally
fielded the biggest or quickest players, we have
not always excelled in our passing and tackling,
yet I feel we have more than countered all our
deficiencies by means of team spirit, togetherness,
grit, and a real desire to win. Stalwart players
such as Amirmokri, Jonas, Davenport Thomas,
Avakyan, Lamb, Mueller, Dixon and Saville-Sneath
have shown at times tremendous courage and
self-belief and a palpable sense of, sink or swim,
united endeavour. It has been inspiring to watch!
We have also at times benefited from certain
players from the 2nds joining us for a game or two
and we are immensely grateful for the erstwhile
services of Marshall Lee, Boam, Davies, Gavrilov
and Tirado. We finished the season with 3
victories and 4 losses (all of the games were
close) and I think everyone involved should feel
extremely proud of their efforts. Well done.

Squash
In squash this term, we tragically lost our 7 game unbeaten run. This was due to a culmination of missing
several key players for certain matches and ultimately being beaten by a better side. A double header,
home and away fixture, against Papplewick provided two nail biting finishes, which luckily resulted in two
Sunningdale victories. Sadly, our one defeat came against Ludgrove. A somewhat depleted side were
simply overpowered on the day. We have a fantastic new squash coach who was South Africa's second
ranked player for 10 years. With his coaching prowess, I expect big things from this group of players
next year.

The Under 10B's had a very productive season.

They worked hard at training which really paid
off as each boy improved on particular aspects
of the game. Outstanding leadership and contribution from Arden Norris and Lazaro mi. helped

team was very well mannered and a pleasure to

Rugby U11 A
This was a term of eye catching mountainous victories mixed with jaw dropping canyons of defeat. New
U11 rugby rules meant some steps into the unknown and with many different interpretations of rules seen
at different grounds, this inevitably turned into a season of some frustration. However, outstanding wins
were recorded against Brambletye (50 -10), Bishopsgate (73-7), Dorset House (71-12),Ashdown House
(50-15) and St.Georges,Windsor (30-25). Bishopsgate away possibly saw this side at the height of their
powers. Led by Field ma. in bustling, rampaging form, a platform was laid for the silky Spanish hands of De
Carlos and the power and pace of Kivanc. It was a performance where all that needed to click, clicked.
Woodcote House at home provided a stiffer examination of our credentials. Blown away by 28 unanswered first half points, a response was needed in the second half. Captain Zakhir min. rallied his troops
and the game went right down to the final play, where a turnover deep in Woodcote territory led to a
breakaway try and a defeat. Horris Hill and Lockers Park both proved too strong, as were Ludgrove. This
match perhaps summed up the U11A season. Inspired first half play saw the boys surge into a lead at the
break. However missed tackles and defensive disorganisation allowed our visitors to run in five unanswered second half tries en route to a 52-14 loss. Some pride was restored with a gritty performance
against St.Georges,Windsor before a depleted outfit travelled for the final match of the season against
Woodcote House. De Carlos, Kivanc and Zakhir min. were outstanding but they couldnt prevent a further loss. This was a season that on occasion, threatened to catch fire and produce rugby of the highest
order. The boys can be proud of their victories but harsh lessons were learnt in defeat. The boys and I
would like to thank the many parents who braved the elements.

U10 A Rugby

The U10A's had a bit of a mixed season in truth.

There was a huge amount of excitement at the
start of the term given the talent in the year group
but we just lost the physical battle in our early
games against Woodcote House and Horris Hill. To
their credit though the boys really rallied in their
next match against Brambletye and came back from
a 5-3 try deficit at halftime to draw the game 6-6.
A superb performance from Boscawen, Jackson mi.,
Motala and Lewis mi. This draw gave the boys a
huge amount of confidence and they went on to
win their next game against Ashdown House by
over 15 tries to zero. Immense performances from
Tkachev, Berridge, Hopton mi. and Craven SmithMilnes. Ludgrove and St Georges were unfortunately
too strong for us in the next two games. However,
the boys showed great courage and resilience to
make it competitive. Our final game against
Bishopsgate saw a wonderful 10-2 try win which
was a fantastic way to finish the season.Well done
Boys!

Rugby 1st XV Continued from front cover

However, we dusted ourselves off and returned to winning ways against a spirited Ashdown House side 39-7. Following Long Leave we had a hugely daunting
week of fixtures against Lockers Park and Ludgrove. Sunningdale has never beaten Lockers Park at 1st XV level and on arrival the sight of two gigantic six foot
goliaths in their side did little to make us feel that the situation could easily be remedied. However, in what was perhaps our most complete performance we
tackled, rucked and ran like never before and simply blew the opposition away 19-34. Boer, playing at number 8, illustrated just what a devastating force he could
be picking the ball up from the base of the scrum. We played scintillating rugby with the backs led
by Buxton and Senior ma carving holes in the Lockers Park defence seemingly at will. However,
the greatest test of all was to come in the guise of Ludgrove, as ever, they were a very talented
side and things did not seem to be going our way after they scored within the first minute of the
game. However, we fought relentlessly to stay in the game and with the match in the balance
scored from a charge down to win 14-12.The whole team played out of their skin and were fantastically committed, putting their bodies on the line and never taking a step back. Ludgrove simply ran out of ideas of how to break through the dark blue and light blue wall.Treacher in particular
personified the spirit of the team, putting in a stellar performance, tackling anything that moved
and hitting rucks with extreme prejudice. It was a wonderful victory. We also proved far too strong
for St. George's Windsor and had to weaken our team at half time, the scoreline of 0-42, might
well have doubled otherwise. The last match of the season against Woodcote House proved to be
our only undoing, with the fly-half and full back away we lost our nerve and key players had off days and we simply didn't get the rub of the green. Sometimes,
things are just not to be and It seemed fair that honours should be even with an excellent Woodcote side.
This was a remarkable season, by any reckoning and the boys should feel exceptionally proud of their achievements. To have played so well and to have beaten
so many gifted and much larger sides is a testament to their commitment and skill. If it is to be Sunningdale's last season of XV a side rugby it seems fitting that
it should have been done with this wonderful group of players. What a huge pleasure it was to take them.Well done the 1st XV.

Sunday Rugby Trip Activity

The Lent term got off to a funny old start with the
team playing their first match of the season in a
game of two halves. Milbourne Lodge were all over
the Sunningdale boys in the first half, almost seeming to score at will, and lead 10-30 at the interval.
However, after half time and some stern words the
boys began to tackle hard, stayed flat in defence,
passed the ball well and coupled with some devilish side stepping and offloading the team began to
play some tasty rugby. However, it wasnt to prove
enough against Milbourne Lodge (35-40) but it did
set the scene for what went on to be a very impressive season indeed. The team recorded some
fantastic victories against Brambletye (70-45), Horris Hill (75-5), the home & away double over
Woodcote House (55-10 & 30-20), Bishopsgate
(45-25), St Georges Windsor (20-15), Ashdown
House (80-20) and Lockers Park (55-25).The boys
also came incredibly close against Ludgrove and
were very unlucky to lose (30-40) in what was a
hard fought and difficult match.

London Irish v Worcester Warriors

We travelled to the Madejski stadium by coach and immediately saw the crowd filling up the stadium. We
managed to have our picture taken with the Aviva Premiership trophy and then we saw Digger, London
Irish's mascot parading around the field. It was great to see how the players prepare for their match
during the warm up. The match itself was very interesting to watch because you could easily see the
intensity and commitment from both sets of players. It was also great to see so many of the techniques
we learn at school, being displayed by the professionals. Being able to study scrummaging and rucking
techniques really helped us out!

We had a terrific day out at the rugby, learnt several new things about rugby and it was great to be part
of a home win for London Irish! Come on you Irish! We would like to thank Mr Guest for organising the
trip and for taking us.
Warde-Norbury

This has been a super term for the under 9B rugby

team. They have achieved some great successes
against St George's Windsor and Bishopsgate and
some very close and hardly fought matches against
Millbourne Lodge, Lockers Park and Ludgrove. The
team can be proud of themselves that they have
progressed well and have put in some great
performances. Special mention must be made of
Field min's crunching tackles, Phelps and Horton
mi's strong runs and Chaugny's dynamism and pace.
A great term. Well done.

This has been a fantastic term for the cross country teams, especially the seniors. The boys in the senior team achieved a very well deserved first place in the Sunningdale relays against some fierce competition. After half-term they performed brilliantly at the Ludgrove relays and were a hairs-breadth from
getting a podium finish. Despite coming fourth they did amazingly well considering that they were up
against twenty-four very strong teams. The season was finished off on great form at the Oratory Greyhound race, in which the senior team won bronze medals. They did amazingly well despite their bumps
and bruises from a very hard fought rugby match the day before, not to mention exhaustion after a week
of exams. The team captain, Hawkey deserves a special mention for being the third to finish out of some
phenomenal competition. Well done.

Fencing Tournament 14th Match 2016

Harrow Football

Woodcote House (Host) - Sunningdale - Hall Grove

Sunningdale won the 1st Inaugural Triangular Tournament

With the Headmaster off games and many of the

staff not available to play the strange game from
north London, it was rather a ragtag bunch who
took to the field to play against a large and
skillful Harrow side. However, Sunningdale clay
and some very athletic gap students kept us in
the game for the first half, with Sunningdale only
down by one base. The second half proved the
young Harrovians undoing, with the slope coming into play and some mighty shots at goal from
Mr. Farmer, Mr. Gubbins and Mr Breen. The only
disappointment was BWRH's comical attempt
at base which went less than a foot. A tense
finish saw Sunningdale the victors by two bases,
6 - 4. It was a splendid afternoon and Harrow
were very kind to lend us so many players. It was
also so lovely to see Old Sunningdalians who
had now become rather accomplished Harrow
Footballers in their own right, Messrs Wade,
Cartwright ma, and Hulse min.

Fives
It has been quite a while since we had such a successful fives team. Throughout the year they have
performed brilliantly in all of the matches beating all before them so we approached the tournament
season with a good deal of excitement.

B.W.R.H

We took five strong pairs to the U12 tournament. They all performed very well indeed and gained huge
experience throughout the day. Four out of the five pairs got through the pool round to the main draw.
The fifth pair of Kivanc and Boscawen were put in the Plate C competition and played out of their skins
to end up winning it. Senior mi. and Barrett were subsequently entered into Plate B and ended up wining
that as well. The second pair of Hopton ma. and Buxton played very well to meet a strong
Highgate pair in the Quarter Final. It was a very close game which they just lost 9-12, 9-12.The first pair
of Hopkins and Senior ma. were dominant all day and comfortably won their semi-final against Summer
Fields 1 12-6, 12-1.The final had to be played three days later which gave us time for a little extra practice. In the first game we were very nervous and made too many mistakes but managed to win it 12-9.
From that point on they discovered their form and blew away a very good Berkhamsted pair 12-3, 12-1.
This was the first time we have won this tournament since 1992.
Hopes were high for the Prep Schools the following
day but we knew that Summer Fields were strong,
having lost to them last term. Three of our four
pairs made it to the quarter final stage - a wonderful
achievement. The third pair defeated Ludgrove 1 in
their first match. The first pair made it to the
semi-final without much difficulty where they faced
a very good Highgate pair. They came alive in this
match and won it easily 12-6, 12-1.And so we faced
Summer Fields in the final. We got off to a poor
start, losing the first game 3-12. We then changed
tactics a little and stopped trying to out hit them. In
a wonderful display of very high quality fives, we
won the second game 12-6. Our opponents heads
had dropped and we continued to up our level and
ran away with the third game 12-1.The last time we
won this tournament was 1993 but it was worth
the wait! To make the day even more special, the
whole school were on the balcony of the Reading
Room to welcome home the victors. Russell was
awarded the fives cup at Prize Giving.
Team: Russell, Hopkins, Senior ma, Hopton ma,
Buxton, Senior mi, Lewis ma, Barrett, de Carlos,
Kivanc, Boscawen, Osborne.

Activities this term have served up some

wonderful fun for the boys. From Go Karting, to
a Premiership Rugby match, the boys have done
a plethora of things during their free time. During the week they continue to develop their
skills in various 'minor sports'.Archery, Fencing,
shooting and golf are always filled to the brim
on a Thursday afternoon. Squash coaching in our
newly refurbished court is hotly contested in the
evening slot. With several new activities being
tried out next term, we hope the boys continue
to excel in sports and activities many children
wouldn't usually have the opportunity to try
their hand at.

di Legno which surely must qualify as one of the most beautiful in Europe.Weather and snow conditions couldn't have been better with fluffy cotton wool snow
that squeaked under our skis, bright blue sunny skies and often empty pistes. The team did well with Benjamin Hagger in particular setting an excellent time of
forty four seconds in the U11 slalom. All the boys managed to put in sub one minute times, a huge improvement on previous years and excellent times in their
own right. This year was the girls' year with nearly all medals in all categories won by a girl or teams of girls, times must be changing, undoubtedly for the
better and boys collectively will have to pick up the pace if they are to reclaim the pistes. As well as Hagger, Buxton, Hopkins and Powell took part, they had
a cracking time with an excellent race instructor who improved all of their techniques and times enormously, the food was superb, the hospitality excellent
and the skiing the very best in a very long time.

Besides The Concert, a great deal else went on musically this term.

The six scholars (Dixon, Preston ma, Klein, MarshallLee, Ker and Zakhir ma) have worked so hard over
the last couple of terms and have reached a very
impressive standard. Preston ma and Klein were

A new Anthem was sung for each of the six Evensongs in Chapel.Three of the most notable were Elgars
Ave Verum", S.S.Wesleys Thou Wilt Keep Him in Perfect Peace and Marcellos Give Ear Unto Me, all
sung by the Chapel Choir. The Junior Choir gave us a very good rendition of Mendelssohns O Rest in
the Lord. It was particularly special to hold our first Compline Service on Ash Wednesday. This was
candlelit and gave all who attended a thought-provoking time for the start of Lent. The Parent Choir
joined forces once again for an Evensong and with Stephen Cartwright singing the tenor solo they sang
Cornelius Three Kings from Persian Lands Afar admirably well.
For the recital on our Assessment morning, Mueller performed a Brahms Hungarian Dance on his violin
superbly well and de Carlos serenaded us all with his magnificent guitar playing. With the Woodwind
Ensemble also, and Hopton mas trumpet playing followed by Wilsons saxophone performance, we certainly demonstrated well, the impressive music talent present at Sunningdale.

The Stowe musicians kept us all enthralled in the Recital they so kindly came and gave us in the Old
Library. It was an inspirational programme with truly virtuoso playing and so wonderful to see William
Motion (Old Sunningdalian) performing.

to their next schools,
which is a fantastic achievement. It takes an enormous
amount of work, time and
commitment to sit an art
scholarship and I am so
proud of what they have all
managed to achieve.

Our Informal Concert provided the perfect platform for all those taking exams to perform one of their
pieces. There was huge enthusiasm from all to be selected to play and the 34 performances were full of
variety. The Brass Ensemble topped and tailed the evening with John Williams Imperial March. (ie the
Darth Vader tune from Star Wars). So many exceptionally good singers at the top of the School all
performed e.g.Arthur,Tirado,Warde-Norbury, Coen, Hopton ma,Wilson, Pearson, Davies, and one was
left thinking that the adjudicator for the Singing Competition next term does not have an enviable task.
