Junior Tennis 2016

Hi Everybody:
I'm writing to encourage your child to try tennis this summer. Brian and I and our
staff have many years of coaching experience and our philosophy is very simple,
keep the game fun. The two components is Junior Development and Tennis Team,
your child may do one or both. Enclosed is information on Junior Development along
with classes and levels. Below is background on Tennis Team.
Facts about Tennis Team -1. If your child can serve and
can rally. We want them on the
team. Your child will improve
immensely through practice and
team play! First step is to join
the team, second step practice
and third step play. This is all
about the experience.

They learn to work with a partner and the importance of playing on a team.
3. Join the team. We will make everyone feel they are part of the team. From
practices to matches being part of the team is the theme, All for one, one for all.
One rule will be observed, and that is to try. Effort is key, never about winning or
losing, all about trying. The coaches will work with the parents to see what level of
participation they would like to see their child at.
4. Tennis team is fun! At practices and during matches, players are matched with
other players of similar ability. Kids laugh and learn! Interclub matches are a
culmination of what is learned.
5. The practice schedule and match line-ups will be posted well in advance. If you
cannot attend all of the tennis matches, that's okay. Let us know ahead of time.
Our first team practice will be held on Monday, June 13th * after school. Feel free to
have your child come out and try a practice to see what the team is all about. Your
child can join the team at any time this summer. The cost is $75.

Pee Wee - An intro to tennis, parts of the court and racket handling skills. Focus is on fun, fitness, hand eye and eye -foot
coordination skills.

Level 1 - Beginners or second year of lessons. Intro to basic strokes and movement. Learn boundaries, etiquette and begin
developing ability to rally.

Level 2 - One to three seasons of previous lessons. Focus on consistency, placement of shots and directional change.
Children entering level 2 should be able to rally 5 times over the net with a partner (one bounce), hit 7 of 10 forehand over the
net from service line, 5 of 10 backhand over from service line, 5 of 10 serves in correct box from the service line and 5 of 10
volleys over the net.

Level 3 - Focus of refining fundamentals, shot selection and strategy. Students entering level 3 should be able to rally 10
times over the net with a partner, hit 7 of 10 forehand over the net from baseline (back court), 6 of 10 backhands over net from
baseline, 5 of 10 serves in correct box on each side and hit 7 of 10 volleys into the opposi te service box.

Junior Point Play

(1:30 Session)

First 30 minutes dedicated to instruction. Focus is on match play, warm up and then play points, games, tiebreakers, the
objective is to get comfortable with game situations. All games will count towards a point play ranking. There will be
coaching.
