Design Of steam turbine.

Velocity Diagram.
In impulse turbine all calculations are made by velocity diagram.first we will
consider inlet velocity diagram and another outlet velocity Diagram.
Nozzle through which the steam is flowing and when the steam flows through
this nozzle, there will be a drop in the pressure and there will be increase in
velocity. Then, this steam will pass through the blade passages of the
impulse turbine.
Inlet velocity Diagram
let us draw the common velocity component U.In inlet velocity triangle we
have c1, V1 and U .We will have beta1 and alpha. Beta1 is the inlet velocity
angle and alpha is known as the nozzle angle. alpha is smaller compared to
beta1.

Outlet Velocity Diagram.

Now We draw the other velocity triangle that means the exit velocity
triangle. In this triangle V2, is the relative velocity at the exit. angle is beta2,
c2 is absolute velocity at the exit. If I project the vertical lines from the apex
of these two velocity triangles and join them, the quantity which I get is
denoted as comega.

Ca1 & Ca2 axial components of velocity at inlet and outlet.
