UNIVERSAL LIFTING CEMENT HEAD

TOP DRIVE UNIVERSAL LIFTING CEMENT HEAD

WORK METHOD

Description:
The Rotating Cement Head is designed to have rotation and reciprocation during the cement
job.
Plugs can be dropped by a manual or remote pin puller without using a manifold.
The cement head is designed so that ample annular area exist around the larger size cage and
body to allow fluid flow
Slots in the plug cage allow the direct pressure on the bottom plug from the flow passing the
cage to guarantee launch after the pin on the pin puller is retracted
The rig can circulate and displace pumping thru the Top Drive, and the cement job is pumped
thru different 21502 line.

Rotating Head components:

From the bottom:
- Bottom Adapter (13 3/8, 9 5/8, 7 Buttress) (L: 1,02m, W: 182-236Kg) (Fig1)

- Double Plug Body Assembly (L: 1.75m, W: 908Kg) (Fig2)

-Crossover Adapter (L: 0.44m, 227Kg) (Fig3)

- Swivel Upper Sub Assembly (L: 1.22m, 409Kg) (Fig4)

Total Length of Rotating head connected on the casing will be: L3.4m, W: 1780Kg (Fig.5)

Strap Wrench: min 160cm chain length (to be able to rotate also the body)
Slings: 2 Tons

NOTE: The plug cannot freeze to the cage because it is naturally warmed by the flow of the
circulation fluid temperature

CAUTION: Do not lift entire head from swivel hoist rings because they lift through the bearings
use choker chain on sub.

Pre-job check on the camp:

Wash, dry and oil all parts, inspect for damage and replace if necessary all the O-ring.
Check the pin puller, check the remote control system (if will be used)
Check if the cap of the cage is well connected (The cage is cover and connected with a cap by
bolts on to the top, do not disconnect if not for maintenance) (Fig.6)
Check if the spring comes out, check Tattle Tale is well connected (Arm stroke is 76 mm/3 in)
Check if all camlocks are working
Check O-Ring on Crossover Adapter; put the grease on the thread (Fig.7)
For quicker rig up on location, bring the Crossover Adapter already connected to the Body
(Fig.8) (that means bring the head on location in 3 items, not 4)
Bring with you on location a tool box with all O-Rings, 5/16 Allen wrench, and Strap Wrench
Make sure the customer is informed promptly, in order to have on the rig floor a mechanical lift
device certified to lift personnel.

Pre-job check on location:

Check is the O-rings are not damage
Check if all the way for the fluid are not blocked

Plug Loading:
Load the plugs from the bottom of the body
Take out the body, from the basket, in horizontal position on one wood pallet
Pull out the two pin puller
One operator Pull out the spring from the top of the body by hand and one operator in the
same time loads the Top plug
Screw in the Top pin puller, insert the lock lever on the bonnet and release slowly the spring
Load the Bottom plug
Screw in the Bottom pin puller; insert the lock lever on the bonnet

Rig Up:
Make sure before starting, the rig has a man basket to go at least 3 meters high
Check the tattle tale if is cocked (the flag in lower position)
Take first the Bottom Adapter (1), well-greased and connect to the casing with Hydraulics key
from the rig
Take the Body (2) in vertical position and land the body on the adapter, be sure camlocks are
turned flush and assemble. When the box is fully down over pin Sure Lock, rotate 60 deg to the
right with strap wrench (Fig.15). Secure the Sure Lock by turning the 4 camlocks one half turn to
the right (clockwise) with a 5/16 Allen wrench (Fig.9).
If the Crossover adapter (3) is not already connected, use the same procedure for connect the
body, just take care for dont hurt too much the spring that came out from the cage. Rotate 60
deg to the right by hand and turn the 3 camlocks with Allen Wrench
Then the Swivel upper sub (3). There are 2 circulation fittings 21502, (Fig.10) from one make
sure there is a cup (Fig.11)
Connect thru the shackles on the reaction plate one sling (2 Ton) doubly bent (4 Ton)
Remove the cup from 4 box (Fig.12).Start to lift the swivel sub on top of the body
From this moment are necessary operators with in a proper lift basket
Connect the swivel in the same way of the body, but the 60 deg rotation is possible by hand.
Secure the 3 camlocks with Allen Wrench
Take the chain winch from the rig and pass it thru the Support Block (Fig.13)
Connect the blocks hook on the doubly bent sling connected to the reaction plate (Fig16)
Connect the chain winch in one fixed point of the rig floor, to allow the reciprocation and
rotation of the head and avoiding the rotation of the reaction plate hence also the H.P. line
To only rotate the head is enough to connect a chain winch directly to the shackles on the
reaction plate (Fig.14)
Connect the H.P line on 2 1502 thread (first 2 lotorque valve);always use another chain
winch, for the entire job, connected to the H.P 2 line to avoid having too much weight on the 2
-8X2 1502 adapter
Connect the top drive to the 4 IF connection with Torque 28,000 Ft/lb

Start rotation and reciprocation of the head:

Take out the slips holding the casing
Start to rotate really slow
Needs 2 operators from the rig:
One to keep in tension the chain holding the HP line, one to keep in tension the chain winch
connected to the Support Block

Release of the plugs (Manual):

Start from the bottom plug
Unlock the lock lever and turn the bonnet to the left (counterclockwise) approximately 9 turns.
The indicator red pin will show in the bonnet at the end of the stroke.
The passage of the dart from its cage into the drill string is indicated by the Flag Tattle Tale
which will move upward (Fig.17). Re-cock the flag moving it downward.
For the Top plug, same procedure, and a captive expeller spring pushes the plug into the flow

The lock lever must be in locked position in order for the hydraulic system to function.
If the hydraulic system were to fail to operate the pin puller can be manually operated by
unlocking the lock lever and turning the bonnet manually

Rig Down:

Put the slips on the casing

Start to disconnect from the top,
Before disconnecting the top drive hold the cross over adapter of the head with Hydraulic key in
opposite rotation.
Disconnect the upper swivel(turn the 3 camlocks one half turn to the left, rotate 60 deg to the
left by hand and pull upward the upper swivel)
Disconnect the body (leave the crossover adapter in the body)
Before disconnecting the Bottom adapter with the Hydraulic key, hold again with a second
Hydraulic key the casing, to avoid the rotation of the cemented casing.
Wash every single item.
