The suitcase that becomes a scooter

Do you travel frequently and hate having to run down never-ending corridors and
terminals? Well, the people at Samsonite have joined forces with Micro Mobility to
design this brilliant suitcase called Samsonite X Micro Mobility Trolley Scooter. It is a
suitcase that transforms into an useful and amusing scooter. It takes advantage of the
suitcases two wheels, and the handgrip becomes a handlebar. This is the end of
having to run to catch your flight.

This brilliant idea is brought to us by a design student in Kingston University, who has
created a special door that provides shelter in the event of an earthquake. The doors
system allows it to fold in half, creating a roof under which we are protected from
possible detachments. The doors frame also holds a small survival kit: a flashlight,
drinking water and medicine that could help us survive if we were trapped by the
earthquake.
A good idea that can save lives.

thinking that leads to new insights, novel
approaches, fresh perspectives, whole new ways
of understanding and conceiving of things

18

ability attitude - process

An Ability
A simple definition is that creativity is the ability to

imagine or invent something new.

the ability to generate new ideas by combining,

changing, or reapplying existing ideas.

19

An Attitude.
Creativity is also an attitude:
The ability to accept change and newness, a willingness to play
with ideas and possibilities, a flexibility of outlook, the habit of
enjoying the good, while looking for ways to improve it

20

A Process
Creative people work hard and continually
to improve ideas and solutions, by
making gradual alterations and
refinements to their works

21

What will people think?

There is strong social pressure to conform and to be ordinary and not creative.
Here are some overheard examples:
Creative Person: "I like to put water in my orange juice so it's less sweet."
Ordinary Person: "You're weird, you know?"

Ordinary Person: "What are you doing?"

Creative Person: "We're painting our mailbox."
Ordinary Person: "You're crazy."

Creative Person: "Why don't we add a little `Tongkat Ali powder ?"
Ordinary Person: "Because the recipe doesn't call for `Tongkat Ali."

Ordinary Person: "Why are you going this way? It's longer."
Creative Person: "Because I like the drive."
Ordinary Person: "Did anyone ever tell you you're strange?"
22

I cant do it! / Theres nothing I can do

Im not smart enough
Were not trained to do this

Only an expert can do this

Examples of ordinary people who became experts:
The Wright brothers

bicycle mechanics turned aviators

G.W Garrett

a clergyman designed the submarine

John P. Holland

an Irish schoolmaster designed the submarine

Eli Whitney

an attorney invented the cotton gin

George Manby

a militia captain invented the fire extinguisher

Honda

motor mechanic founded Honda Corporation

Thomas Edison

non-educated who became the most successful

inventor of modern times

Bill Gates

non-graduate became the most successful software

engineer and entrepreneur hence 1st trillionnaire 23

Thomas Edison, in his search for the

perfect filament for the incandescent

lamp, tried anything he could think of,
including whiskers from a friend's beard.
In all, he tried about 1800 things. After
about 1000 attempts, someone asked him
if he was frustrated at his lack of success.
He said something like,
"I've gained a lot of knowledge. I now
know a thousand things that won't
work.

Failures along the way should be expected

and accepted

I might fail !!!!

Failure is a sign of action, struggle and

attempt

Mistakes arent fun, but they sure are

educational

Why we need to Stimulate of our

creative and full of innovation
1. The problems and challenges we face today will not be
solved successfully with our current knowledge and
skills.
2. We are either getting better, or we or getting worse; it
is impossible to stay even.
3. There are revolutionary moments in business,
communities, and personal lives that demand radical
change.

4. Incremental improvement will not guarantee

success in a world that is experiencing radical

change.
5. We live and work in a revolutionary time.

Why we need to Stimulate of our

creative and full of innovation
6. Re-engineering is the fundamental rethinking and
radical redesign of business processes to bring about
dramatic improvement in performance.
7. Our creative capabilities and re-engineering skills are
crucial to assure and improve our future quality of life.

Obstacles to Creativity
