The above circuit shows circuit with Switch S and a capacitor of capacitance 200 F which
may be charged by a battery of e.m.f. 10.0 V and negligible internal resistance connected
in series with a resistor of resistance 30.0 K, The switch S also enables the capacitor to
be discharge through a resistor of resistance 60.0 K. The p.d. V across the capacitor is
monitored using a suitable cathode-ray oscilloscope (C.R.O.) to infinite resistance.
(a) (i) Determine the time constant for the charging of the capacitor?

(ii)

Determine the time constant for the discharging of the capacitor?

(b) The capacitor, initially uncharged, is connected to the battery for time of 5.0 s and
then discharged by a further period of 5.0 s. At t = 10.0 s, the capacitor is
again charged for another period of 5.0 s.
(i) Determine the p.d. across the capacitor at t = 5.0 s, t = 10.0 s and
t = 15.0 s. ?

(ii)

Sketch on the same axes, the appearance of the trace on the C.R.O for the
