Mini Kamdhenu Dairy Scheme

50 animals ( Cows/Buffaloes) in milk


Background:
Uttar Pradesh is the largest milk producing State in the country.
Though Uttar Pradesh, with the production of 241.939 lacs M.T. of milk
during the year 2013-14 is largest milk producing State in the country, yet
average productivity of animals is low in comparison to other states of the
country, due to less availability of high yielding germ plasm animals in the
state.
In order to over come the low availability of high yielding germ plasm
animals, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has launched interest free Mini
Kamdhenu scheme ,which envisage dairy units establishment of 50 high
yielding animals procured from outside the State.
The number of dairy units to be established under this scheme by the 31 of
March 2017 is 1500.
Objectives:
To ensure production and availability of high quality milk producing animals in
the State.
To develop high yielding milk producing animals germ plasm center of
excellence in the State.
To ensure availability of high milk yielding animals to the farmers in the State.
Mini Kamdhenu Scheme has been taken in order to ensure assistance to the
small and marginal farmers.

Salient Features :
a) Each unit will consist of 50 milch animals (Cows/Buffaloes)
b) Cows to be kept in the unit will be only of either cross bred Jersey, or Cross
bred H.F. or Sahiwal breed. Buffaloes will be of Murrah Breed only.
c) Farmers/Beneficiaries will decide whether the unit will be of cows only or
buffaloes only or a mixed of the two with whatever number. However

the

cows to be kept in a unit will be of only one breed i.e. either all of the cross
bred Jersey or cross bred H.F. or Sahiwal breed.
d) All the animals under this scheme are to be purchased from outside the State.
e) The beneficiary should have at least one Acre of Land, excluding the land
required for construction of animals' shed and Godowns etc.
f) Total cost of each unit of 50 animals in milk including the cost for Construction
of the animals shed, Godown etc. has been estimated at Rs. 50.58 lacs.
g) Minimum 25% of total cost of unit i.e. Rs. 12.64 Lacs is to be borne by the
beneficiaries as the margin money from his own resources and the rest amount
i.e. 75% of the cost of the unit, maximum up to Rs. 37.94 Lacs may be taken
as loan from Banks.
h) Interest at rate of 12 percent per year on loan amount taken from bank will be
reimbursed by Government of Uttar Pradesh up to five years (60 Months) up to
the maximum limit of Rs. 13.66 lacs in five years for each unit.
