Dance Performance Analysis
Question 1
The name of the dance company performing is Pennsylavania Ballet. The choreography was
Angel Corella. It took place on February 5, 2016, at 7:30 at Merriam Theatre. The piece I will
be writing about is Without Word.
Question 2
It can be considered that the dance was a contemporary dance that barred modern culture in
it. What the dance had been culture based on Spanish dance, however, since the
choreographer Nacho Duato is known of dance that incorporates both traditional and modern
stance, this dance also was of that nature. The dance style was a popping dance style.
Question 3a
It is considered that the dancers were at their 20s, a mixture of male and female dancers were
on board. All the dancers were blacks and white Spanish decent in origin. The dance was an
ensemble.
Question 3b
It was clear that the costumes worn by the dancers were able to show their body movements
from one point of their foot to the extension of their legs. They showed beautiful partnering
because they were able to mix their movements with the piano sounds. Black male dancers
were awesome.
Question 3c
It was evident that the dancer was able to make use of the available space in the theatre. All
through the performance, they were able to meet the needs of the dimension of the theatre
because they did follow a particular format of dancing hence the use of space was not an
issue with them. I was able to know that they used the space as needed because of the nature
of dance that they were performing, it needed space. Were it not of the use of space, then
they could have failed in their dance and made the audience mad at them or unsatisfied.
Question 3d
The background music was outstanding. It was able to streamline the nature of dance
undertaken by the dancer, it increased their choreographic moves, from the created rhythm
from the music. The lighting used was the best as it created livelily encounter during the
dance. The customs were rightly fitting hence able to show the body movement of the
dancers. All the above helped develop the theme of the dance.
Question 3e
The dance started at a very high level but ended up slow. However, it was important to know
that such type of dance has to take that step in order to create harmonic values in the dance.
Question 4
The intention was to create harmony and sign of togetherness. The ability of the dancers to
dance together was a simple of peace and togetherness. This was also the theme of the dance.
This can be seen from the joint efforts undertaken by each dancer. Individual and group
performance were outstanding.
Question 5
The performance was great from the start to the end. The choreographer was able to show
the audience what was intended for him. Because the aim was to create a theme of peace and
cohesiveness among people. Thanks to the dancer it did play this role.

Dance has various purposes. Therefore the above dance was there to inform. Hence, it can be
considered as an informative dance. The choreographer is engaging with the form by using
customs to increase uniformity as well as creating a traditional cultural value embedded in a
ballet dance.
