Fasting on this Ekadasi
destroys all terrible curses
The Ekadasi that occurs during the dark
fortnight of the month of Jyeshta is
the Yogini Ekadasi.
Fasting on Yogini Ekadasi will nullify all
the curses. The curses and its reactions
in this birth and in our previous births
will be nullified by fasting Yogini
Ekadasi. Whatever merit one obtains by
feeding 88,000 pious brahmana's is
also obtained simply by observing a
strict fast on Yogini Ekadasi. This fast
will destroy heaps of past sinful
reactions and makes us most pious. In
the puranas, an incident has been
noted that Hemamali, the Yaksha has
nullified his curse and its reactions by
fasting on this Yogini Ekadasi.
The king of Alakapuri is Kubera, the
treasurer of the demigods was a

steadfast devotee of lord Siva.

Hemamali was his personal gardener.
Hemamalis daily duty was to visit
Manasarovara Lake and bring back
flowers for his master, Kuvera, with
which he would use them in the puja
offerings to lord Siva. One day, after
picking the flowers, Hemamali went to
his wife for spend some with her, and
forgot to returning directly to his
master and fulfilling his duty by
bringing the flowers for the puja.
Knowing this, Kuvera who was totally
angry cursed Hemamali to fall in the
lower planets and to suffer from white
leprosy and to become separated from
your beloved wife. And so Hemamali
fell at once from grace in Alakapuri and
became ill with the terrible affliction of
white leprosy. As he was wandering
near Himalayas, he had the wonderful
good fortune to come upon the great
saint Markandeya rishi, the best of
ascetics, whose duration of life it is
said, extends to seven of the days of
Brahma. Hemamali told the rishi all his
story and asked him for help.

 Kind hearted Markandeya rishi replied,

Because you have told me the truth, I
shall tell you about a fast day that will
benefit you greatly. If you fast on the
Ekadasi that comes during the dark
fortnight of the month of jeshta you will
surely be freed of this terrible curse.
Upon hearing these blessed words from
the renowned sage, Hemamali fell to
the ground in complete gratitude and
offered him his humble obeisances
again and again. But Markandeya Rishi
stood there and lifted Hemamali up,
filling him with inexpressible happiness.
Thus, as the sage had instructed him,
Hemamali dutifully observed the
Ekadasi fast, and by its influence he
again became a handsome Yaksha.
Then he returned home, where he lived
very happily with his wife.
The Markandeya Purana relates that
the gods created goddesses from their
own Shaktis to assist Durga in killing
the demon Raktavirya, the ally of
Sumba, who had the power to multiply

himself into demons of the same

stature and prowess from the drops of
blood oozing out of his wounds and
touching the ground. They were
yoginis, who drank blood of the demon
before felling on the grounds.
The same story is recorded in the
Mahabhagavata Purana to kill Andhaka
demon, who had the power of creating
numerous demons from his oozed
blood touching the ground. Siva's
pasupata weapon proved futile. Having
no alternative Siva propitiated Lord
Nrashimha to come to his rescues.
Lord Nrashimha created hundred and
eight terrible goddess to help Ambika
to kill Andhaka demon. After Andhaka
was killed the new goddesses moved in
a campaign of destruction in the
Universe. To subdue them Nrashimha
created thirty-two mothers more
powerful than the earlier one. The
earlier mothers out of fear took refuge
in Narasimha who asked all the created
mothers to look after the living beings

of the Universe as mothers. Who

being possessed by the spirit of
goddesses became yoginis.
The Duty of the Yoginis is to indicate
the ignorance of the souls by way of
doing testing and make them surrender
to the supreme lord Krishna and his
forms to get relieve from birth and
death cycle.
Practically those who are not adopted
spiritual path and not adopting fasting
on Ekadasi they cannot withstand of
effect of Yoginis, that why some of the
people getting failed in spiritual
progress. What is Real solution for this
problem? Whether it is possible to
follow all astrological and Vedic rules in
Kali yuga? Surrendering to Supreme
lord and following the advice of the
spiritual guru is the only solution.
The age of Kali is the most condemned
age due to its quarrelsome features.
Kali-yuga is so saturated with vicious
habits that there is a great fight at the

slightest misunderstanding. The

Supreme Personality therefore comes
to teach us how to act according to the
Vedic principles. In this age of Kali, the
Supreme Personality of Godhead
appeared as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu
and preached that in this age the Vedic
activities cannot be systematically
performed because people are so
fallen. He gave this recommendation
from the shastras:
Harer nama harer nama
Harer namaiva kevalam
kalau nasty eva nasty eva
nasty eva gatir anyatha
"In this age of quarrel and hypocrisy
the only means of deliverance is
chanting the holy name of the Lord.
There is no other way. There is no other
way. There is no other way." The Krsna
consciousness movement is therefore
teaching people all over the world how
to chant the Hare Krsna mantra, and
this has proved very much effective in
all places at all times. This is the inner
secret of Yogini Ekadasi.
