Introduction

A demand of energy sources is one of the greatest challenges facing

our nation and even the other countries too. As time passes by, the
worlds population is continuously increasing so be there also the
exceeding of human energy needs. To supply these necessities, finding
ways to convert the alternative renewable energies to electricity to
sustain the life of electrical machines and appliances created by modern
technology where it used by every individual to make their lives easier
and effortless. Solar energy has considered being one of the best
substitutes power sources because of its abundance in nature. It is also
a renewable form of energy. To fulfill the energy needs of a country like
the Philippines, there is a must to develop an efficient system which
could capture maximum power.
Solar panels are a device used to capture the suns radiation. The
panel is consisted of solar cells when hit by the sunlight causes the solar
power is used to convert into electrical energy due to photovoltaic effect.
The solar panels can be classified as fixed type or a tracker type. In the
fixed type, the panel is mounted on the ground notwithstanding of suns
direction at a particular angle. On the other hand, the tracker type
moves according to the suns movement. Since, it is mentioned that there
must to developed an efficient system to harvest the maximum solar
energy, a tracker type is the best choice.

FEASIBILITY CRITERIA
As a group of mechanical engineers the feasibility study focus in
the technical aspect of the company, since the company is more on
development of energy and water source this will help the countrys
energy shortage as well as water shortage due to geographical location of
the Philippines during El Nio.
The study is a solution for the long term problem of many rural
areas within the country, especially those remote places. The company
considered the possible cost for a certain project, this will greatly affect
the possible outcome due to many factors that must be consider.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT

NAME OF PROPOSED PROJECT
The company name is SolarTech, this word was derived from two
words, Solar correspond with the solar panel the one that will provide

I.

MARKET DESCRIPTION

A. General Market Description

Starting a company, it is important to determine who your
potential customers are and what their needs look like. You must get a
handle on the market. Who are your main competitors and what could
you do better or differently? Writing a market description is a good way
to place your product appropriately. Potential investors and customers
will garner a better sense of how your product fits into its target market.
Although you may have other instances where you need to write a
market description, the most common is as part of a general business
plan. The study covers all the 42,028 barangays within the country. This
population includes all from provinces, cities up to municipalities.

B.

Target Market
The target market of the industry are the remote areas within the

country especially those without electricity and substantial supply of

water.
Target customers are the LGU or the Local Government Units,
through this joint venture with these units, the installations of the
systems will be possible since they are the one to subsidize the projects
from their allocated budget.
C.

Product Description
The solar tracking system is designed to drive the panel for

following suns movement to increase power output. The tilting process of

the panel 3 is due to a weight balancing of the water container 2 and the
damping device 4. The process begins with the initial position at 6am
where the panel 3 is facing east. The container 2 is initially full and is
connected to the supply tank 1. At the same time water is being
discharged by the siphoning device 8. The intake water from the supply
tank 1 to the container 2 and the discharged water are all controlled by a
valve 7. The ratio of the discharged to the intake water is twice; since the
discharged is larger, then the water in the container 2 is drain. The
draining rate of water is proportional to the tilting of the panel 3 which is
supported by its base; the damper 4 controls the tilting action of the
panel 3. At 6pm the final position of the panel is 60 facing west and the
container 2 becomes the drain causing the siphoning device 8 to stop
discharging.
The continuous intake of water from the supply tank 1 causes the
container 2 to get heavier compared with the force exerted by the damper
4 making the panel 3 tilt facing east. At 6am the container 2 is will be
full and will reach its initial position facing east at 60. This process
repeats as long as the supply tank 1 is connected to a tap water. The

discharged water is connected to the storage tank 6 with a faucet. When

the water in the storage tank 6 is not enough; tap water may be directly
connected to the faucet for other usage.
The water will be supplied from rivers, this will be pumped using
Ram pump. This pump uses the inertia of flowing water in order to
deliver the water into higher energy level. This pump is connected to the
supply tank for providing water to the container so that the damper will
be countered.
The discharge water from the counterweight will then direct to the
storage tank, this tank will be the one to supply water for the use of the
entire community. The water will be distributed for different usage.

II. CUSTOMER ANALYSIS

Specific objective must be attained for customers satisfaction. This
is the main concern the local government for their people.

Allocating

budgets for a specific projects is a crucial decision, since the output of

the project must be transparently seen by the community. Household
solar panels can easily adopt the design using two tanks for storing the
water so that it can be used after using the system. Experiments must be
done in a long timespan to come up with the accurate results.
It is clearly define that economical projects with worth funding for
are the main concern of all governments units.
III.

COMPETITORS ANALYSIS
SolarTech Company develops existing solar panels to produce

enough electricity for powering a community and at the same time build
a water system that will sustain the need of people.
The possible direct competitors are the large distributor of solar
panels with existing solar trackers.
The indirect competitors are those companies that also provide
alternative energy source aside from solar panels such as wind turbines
and existing power plants.
Through application of electronics to the solar panels, it can follow
the suns movement throughout the day and its rises the capability of the
panel to generate energy. However, this advance technology is too
complex to operate and expensive to avail by the unfortunate societies.
That why, we apply mechanical studies to make the idea less expensive
and affordable. To follow the suns movement without electronic
application, we use the principle of a seesaw. The panel is balance by the
counter weight on the other side; by the idea of lever as two bodies
attached to opposite of the beam with fulcrum at the middle will only

balance if and only if the weight of two and distance with respect to
fulcrum is equal and proportional. Then, a damper is place below the
panel to prevent the random movement of the panel cause by strong
wind and in some instances when the balancing on each side is too fast
causing the panel to move rapidly, this will make the panel inefficient to
harness the solar energy.
IV. INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
Priority projects of many local governments unit is concerning
electrification of remote areas as well as water irrigation or supply for its
people. This result is because nowadays, electricity is already considered
as the fourth of the primary needs of human, meaning the electricity next
to water plays a great role with the development of a certain locale, thus
the country as well.
Renewable energy sources are in large demand due to shortage of
petroleum fuel which is the main source of energy for producing energy.
To overcome this issue, the use of renewable energy resources needs to
be enhanced manifold. The main purpose of this paper is to design a
system which will cause better alignment of Photo voltaic (PV) array with
sun light and to efficiently harvest solar power more without any need for
input power. Damping Mechanism is used to drive the solar panel for
directing to the sun rays during the day and the attached process of
some short of fluid machineries involved.

c.

Prices
The proponents strategy in pricing their product will surely fit the

budget of everyone. They will price their product at a lower amount than
those of their direct competitors. Even if the price is lower, it would not
sacrifice the quality of the food. The proponents consider the price which
the respondents show that 50% of them are willing to buy our products
ranging from P 500,000 P 1,000,000.
d.

Product Preference
Consumers have different preference in determining what they

should buy. There are many factors that consumers consider in

purchasing the proponents conducted a survey regarding the buying
behavior of the consumers
Solar potential in the Philippines
In the Philippines, the potential is even greater than the
aspirational target of 1,528MW attributed to solar in the National
Renewable Energy Plan until 2030
VII. Demand And Supply Consolidation
Most business entities and other organizations with large numbers
of employees engage in some type of workforce management. Workforce
management practices have the goal of ensuring adequate staffing in an
organization

and

increasing

the

efficiency

of

workforce

resource

distribution among the various projects undertaken by the organization.

These practices are typically based on a philosophy of maximizing the
value of capital invested in compensating employees and achieving
quality results from projects performed by the employees.
One particular problem that arises in workforce management is
that of planning for the staffing needs of an organization despite

uncertainty in workforce supply and demand. For example, it may be

difficult to plan anticipated labor requirements and available employee
resources for "funnel opportunities." A funnel opportunity is an
opportunity that, if realized, will quickly place much larger demands on
an enterprise that has been the workload in the past. An example of a
funnel opportunity may be a significant new job or contract that a
company has bid on, but not yet won. Each funnel opportunity that is
won becomes a project that requires resources.
Resource planning involves the allocation of workforce resources
(generally employees and their time) to the projects undertaken by the
enterprise. Resource planning will allocate resources according to the
schedules and skills of the resources involved and the scheduling and
requirements of the projects to which the resources are allocated. As can
be imagined, this planning becomes a complex problem in situations
where project demands are dictated by a dynamic environment and
resources include a large numbers of employees.

sites for installations. Temporary stockroom will be provided within the
sites vicinity for the delivered components. Shipments of the assembled
parts for distant sites, tracking system will be done for remote sites.
Packaging Design
Correct, safe and careful packaging of solar panels is becoming
an increasing issue in an industry in which many companies compete
against each other with similar products and pricing plays a crucial role.
There already exist some companies specializing in solar (PV) module
packaging, offering advanced packaging materials and sound packaging
solutions.
There will be global standards at a certain point of time to which
more and more manufacturers will adhere. Until then, when importing
solar panels overseas, make sure at multiple steps from the purchase,
packaging, loading, transport, to the arrival and unloading that your
panels are packed safely and handled cautiously.
Advertisement and Promotion
Promotion and advertising is one of the crucial steps in building a
company, it dictates the companys potential. The company will
collaborate first with national government for easy dissemination of the
project to local units. Ads in the newspapers will also serve as promotion
of the company. Seminars about the awareness with the product and its
purpose will be given to different provincial government units. Online
advertisements will also used since nowadays people are becoming more
