CHAPTER 1 :

INTRODUCTION

Computer software is a part of a computer system that contains information or

computer directives. It also helps the users in the particular field. The software can
make a work progress become easier and fast.
The software also has some types such as application software, system
software and malicious software. System software has two types; operating system
and device drivers. Related to the study, software that used in the construction field
is CAD (computer aided design) and CAE (computer aided engineering). CAD and
CAE is an application software which is software that uses a computer system to
perform a special functions.
CAD and CAE are the use of computer systems to assist in the content of
modification, analysis, or design optimization. It's used to improve communication
through the documentation, and to create the database for construction. Work result
from this software shown in printed electronic file. CADD term also has been used
(computer aided design and drafting).
CAD and CAE is a very important software in construction industry nowadays.
It will affecting the way business is being done. Construction industry has accepted

the use of computers in many ways. CAD and CAE technology will be the most
important contribute for the companies in project quality and efficiency for the future.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Nowadays, technology is growing fast and give conveniences to people. As well as

in the field of development. In Malaysia, development is growing fast especially in
major urban.
Thus, computer software is also being improved for the purpose of facilitating
the work of construction work. Some people do not care about the development of
computer software because for them to learn something new take a long time. If this
is not taken seriously of construction work must also be significantly affected.
1.2

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of the study was to search and understand the effectiveness of
computer software in the field of construction. Furthermore, to identify how far
computer software can help people in the field of construction.
This study also to identify what issues that can be reduced in the construction
field if aided by computer software and how far computer software can speed up the
construction work. The last one is to identify what is the advantages of software had
been used for construction field.

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF RESEARCH

The aim of the study is to investigate how far computer software can help people in
the field of construction and what issue can be reduced by using computer software.
The major issue that been identify is related to costing, time, space and accuracy.
The end of this study will be revealed all of the issue and how computer software can
solve it.
