Google Cloud Platform

Google Cloud Platform enables developers to build, test and deploy applications on
Googles highly-scalable and reliable infrastructure. Choose from computing, storage
and application services for your web, mobile and backend solutions.

With GCP you can

Get innovative projects to market. Faster.

Spend on business growth, not server hardware

Lower ongoing server and labor costs

Scalable capacity reduces risk of launching new apps

Why GCP

World class infrastructure:

Build on the same
infrastructure
that allows
Google to return billions of search results in milliseconds, serve 6 billion
hours of YouTube video per month and provide storage for 425 million Gmail
users.

Flexible pricing and automatic

sustained use discounts

make Compute

Engine the leader in price/performance.

World Class network:

Google Cloud Platform provides world class network.

Automatic Scaling:
App Engine offers built-in auto-scaling so that your apps
can instantly scale automatically based on need, from zero to millions of
users.

Automated Security Scanning:

Security Scanner
automatically scans and
detects common web application vulnerabilities. It enables early threat
identification and delivers very low false positive rates. You can easily setup,
run, schedule, and manage security scans from the Google Cloud Platform
Console.

Start Quickly, Build Faster:

With built-in services such as load balancing,
health checks, and application logging, you can deploy web and mobile
applications much faster.

Scalability:
Use the same infrastructure Google uses. Google can handle
heavy loads (1M QPS load balancing without pre-warming).

No Contract locking with Google

Pricing & sub-hour billing, sub-minute billing Amazon EC2 charges the
usage of instances by hour. Even partial hours are rounded of to an hour. GCE
machine types are charged a minimum of 10 minutes. After 10 minutes,
instances are charged in 1-minute increments, rounded up to the nearest
minute. Initial comparison indicates that GCEs compute and storage costs are
cheaper than Amazon EC2.

Load Balancer needs no pre-warming

Amazons Elastic Load Balancer (ELB)
is not designed to handle sudden spikes. Customers need to request AWS to
pre-warm the ELB to get it ready to handle the expected load. This requires a
subscription to AWS

support. GCEs

Load

Balancer doesnt require

pre-warming. It scales instantly to support spiky traffic. Refer to

Engine Load Balancing hits 1 million requests per second!
for more details.

Better network throughput GCE Network I/O across regions is much faster
than AWS. Though Google doesnt officially acknowledge it, it is clear that they
leverage their global network which is the backbone of Googles infrastructure.
In contrast, AWS uses public Internet for communicating between the regions.
This capability of GCE makes it possible to set-up interesting scenarios
including synchronous database replication between regions.

Live migration Every cloud provider has to perform maintenance to its host
servers and datacenters. This may result in scheduled downtime for the cloud
provider forcing customers to reboot their VM to complete the process.
Amazon EC2 Maintenance Help Page documents this process. This article,
Widespread Amazon EC2 Cloud Instance Reboots Spark Questions, Concerns
highlights the issue of forced EC2 instance reboots. GCE handles this through a
graceful live migration of VMs from one host to another making it transparent
to the customers. Refer to
Regions & Zones Google Compute Engine Google
Developers
section of GCEs documentation for more details.
