Class Handouts: All class notes and assignments will be posted to the website. You will need
to download and print these materials and bring them to class when needed (see
syllabus or refer to emails and classroom announcements).
This course provides a hands-on experience in accounting uses of Microsoft Excel. Content includes
creating data boxes in financial accounting, using multiple sheets with Excel formulas, preparing
professional quality financial reports, creating graphs to interpret business results, and using Excel
functions to evaluate accounting data.
Course Objectives: This course provides an introduction to the role and use of models and modeling
in managerial decision making, focusing on the functionality of Microsoft Excel. Here are the course
objectives:
1.
Students will learn about using Excel to solve accounting problems.
2.
Through solving problems, students will learn more about concepts and principles of
accounting, including financial statements and financial analysis, as well as many accounting
concepts.
3.
Students will be able to navigate the Excel environment by managing workbooks, worksheets,
and cells.
4.
Students will be able to perform statistical and financial calculations using formulas and
functions in Excel.
5.
Students will be able to analyze data using logic and reference functions in Excel.
6.
Students will be able to manipulate text, dates, and times using Excel functions.
7.
Students will be able to develop appropriate and professional-looking charts using Excel.

Students Responsibilities:
1.
Attendance is mandatory. Punctuality is necessary.
2.
Please turn off all cell phones and other distracting electronic devices when you enter the
classroom.
3.
This is a hands-on course. PC laptop computers are required. It is classroom etiquette not to
be surfing the web, checking email, tweeting, or face-booking, or even snap chatting
during class sessions. This is distracting for the instructor and other students.
