Dalem Kaum Heritage Row

The street of Dalem Kaum has

become very synonymous of
becoming the 'red light' district of
Bandung. The decision to improve the
condition of Dalem Kaum through
adaptive re-use of the existing
building is being seen as the most
appropriate and feasible way to
facilitate its existence within the new
Creative Laboratory District of
Bandung. By maintaining and face-
lifting almost all building structures
along the street, it is hoped that the
new developed stretch of Dalem
Kaum will synergize and compliment
the programming and urban strategies
of the surrounding area of Jalan Asia-
Afrika and Alun-Alun Bandung,
strengthening the historical,
commercial and economical value of
the area.

cinema.bdg

cinema.bdg is a place making

programming strategy to develop the area
of Jalan Asia Afrika/ alun-alun as the
Creative Laboratory District for Bandung.
The strategy consists of a new area that
will house Bandung Film Studio, Bandung
Film Museum and a new alternative
cinema/ film workshop dedicated to the
development of the film industry for
Indonesia. Paying homage to one of the
greatest film of all time by Giuseppe
Tornatore - Cinema Paradiso, this
proposal also respond to the need of
Bandung city and its creative community
for a proper place for their creative
activities to take place. The now defunct
Bioskop Dian, situated right across the
site, will be revitalized by having these new
programs to re-brand and re-develop the
area, which is currently being left
underutilized, even it is located at one of
the prime area of Bandung.

Design Summary

The design explores the potential of the urban setting, offering

spaces that are connected and tied together by six clusters of
building blocks that perform various mixed programs. The
cylindrical buildings shaped the inner space of the public arena,
converging activities and events to take place in a fluid manner
and suggest engagement in creative and intellectual expressions
within the spaces and facilities provided. The design offers an
environment with unique characteristics, but at the same time
maintaining the dialogue with the surrounding areas.
