Planets
What are Jovian Planets?
It is also known as gas
giants
There are four Jovian
planets
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
What are Jovian Planets?
Jovian
came from Jupiter,
describing the other
gas giants in our solar
system as Jupiter
like Gas giants are not
composed entirely of Gas.
A rocky core exists
somewhere within these
balls
of gas
Jovian Planets are larger
than the other planets of
the Solar System and have
dozens of moons.
Jupiter
Orbit: 778, 330, 000 km
(5.20 AU) from the Sun
Diameter: 142, 984 km
(equatorial)
Mass: 1.900X........... Kg
Jupiter (a.k.a Jove; Greek
Zeus)
Fourth brightest object in
the
sky
Jupiter was first visited by
Pioneer 10 in 1973 and
later by
Pioneer 11, Voyager 1,
Voyager
Jupiter
The gas planets do not
have solid
surfaces
Jupiters ring
The F
ring, is a complex
structure made up of
several smaller rings along
which "knots" are visible.
Saturn has 53 named
satellites
Interesting Facts about
Saturn
Second
shortest day of any of the
solar systems planets.
Saturn orbits the Sun once
every 29.4 Earth years
Uranus
Orbit: 1,429,400,000 km
(9.54 AU) from Sun
Mass: 5.68e26 kg
Uranus (Greek Ouranos)
Uranus is composed
primarily of rock and
various
ices
, with only about
15% hydrogen and a little
helium.
Uranus
' atmosphere is about
83% hydrogen, 15% helium
and 2% methane.
1.0247x
kg
Neptune
(Greek:
Poseidon) was the god of
the Sea.
The interior of Neptune
have rocky cores like Jupiter
and Saturn. But at that
point the similarity ends.
The pressures are never
sufficient to convert
molecular hydrogen to
metallic hydrogen in the
interior of Neptune.
Instead, a large mantle of
icy water and ammonia
forms about 20,000 km
below the surface.
