ITEC Portfolio Artifact Reflection

Standard 3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources:

Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital
tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology
infrastructure.
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were
your individual contribution(s)?
This artifact was completed in ITEC 7445 as the Evaluating Emerging Technologies
Project. The artifact is a Prezi presentation on Tablet computing and the push for systems
to move to a 1:1 ratio of device per student. I created this project after researching
technology tools and ideas that were in the fore front with tech leaders. This project was
shared in my class and evaluated by my peers.
2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it
is placed.
I met with the technology team at my school to look at what tools did we see coming in
the near future. Based on what we had heard from the media specialist about how the
goal for our system was to be 1:1 in the near future I choose the tablet as the device
create my presentation over. The presentation was created to be viewed by our faculty n
the tech resources web page. The student tablet topic was evaluated based on the student
benefits, student age, brands of tablets, technical support for teachers and students,
potential problems, potential costs, funding, increase rigor, student recreational use, and
how can it be used specially in all academic content areas. This artifact was observed on
the compatibility with the school Wi-Fi infrastructure or technology software and tools
currently in place.

3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to
improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
When completing this artifact I was able to research the pros and cons for student tablet
use in school. I also enjoyed looking at iPad or Android tablets. I originally thought that
iPads would be the best tablets for student use but after several trials and surveys from
students I quickly found out the Chrome books proved to be more valuable for class work

because of the key pad and because we are a google system and google classroom is
extremely compatible with the Chromebook.

4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement,
faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
The effectiveness of this project can be assessed through the student trials of using the
tablets as well as the student surveys. This project created some effective discussions
between teachers after it was published on the technology resource page. Teachers were
very interested in how effective tablets were in the classroom especially because this was
at the same time as text books adoption. My school actually decided not to buy new
books but bought more class sets of chrome books.
