7.5kW,460V d.c series motor. The staring current varies from 1.5 to 2 times full load current. The

flux increases by 10% as the current rises from 1.5-2 times rated full load current.

the coil & its time constant if the cross section of the coil is 100*50 mm2.Specific heat of copper is 390
J/kg-0C.the space factor is 0.56, copper weight is 8900 kg/m3.
23) The temperature rise of transformer is 250C after one hour and 37.50C after two hours of cold
conditions. Calculate its steady temperature rise and the heating time constant, if its temperature falls
from the final steady value to 400C in 2.5 hours when disconnected. Calculate its cooling time constant.
The ambient temperature is 300C.

28) A 3-phase 6-pole alternator with double layer winding,narrow phase spread accommodate in 4-slot
per pole per phase with eight conductor /slot.the coils are short pitched by 2 slots.fundamental flux 3rd
& 5th harmonic fluxes are 0.018wb, 1.7mwb & 0.6mwb respectively.

29) A 4-pole,50 Hz synchronous generator has 48 slots in which double layer winding is housed.each coil
has 10 turns and short pitched by an angle of 360 electrical.

34) A 230-V,6 pole,3-phase,50 Hz,15-kW Induction motor drives a constant torque load at
rated frequency, rated voltage and rated kW output and has a speed of 980 rpm. Calculate the
steps in a 5- step rotor resistance starter for a motor having rotor resistance per phase 0.02
Ohm.

37) The field coils of a D.C machine are excited with 2.5 A at 230 V. The Weight of
Copper in the coils is 60 kg. Estimate the rate at which the temperature will begin to
rise when the coils are excited from cold conditions. Specific heat of copper is 390
J/kg-0C.
38) Why special shaped core laminations are used in power transformer? Why
Interleaving is done in magnetic cores?
