The Majesty of the Man Christ Jesus

Intro Psalm 8 hymn of praise. Written by David as a musical tribute to the

majesty of God, especially as He made humanity.
1. The Magnificence of His Name - Ex. 3:15 The covenantal Name reveal Gods
glory in the works of creation, redemption & revelation of His Person Psalm
5:11. The eternally existent One along with the One with all power = a God
intimately involved with His people. Gods Name guarantees His covenant all
His promises & assurances are in Gods Name. I Kings 8:27 the heavens do not
contain the LORD. His Immanence to Creation. The majesty of Gods Name =
royalty King of Earth His victories Ex. 15:6 - his might in judgment I Sam. 4:8
Ps. 76:4 his law Isa. 42:21, His rule over creation 8:1. Only Gods people know
how to respond to this revelation of Gods majesty in nature for He has revealed
His Name to us.
2. The Magnificence of the picture of Christ vv. 2,3 Out of the mouths of
children & Infants . . . Matt. 21:15-16. Young children of Jerusalem recognized
Jesus as Messiah this crowned Him immediately before His execution which also
highly exalted Him, giving Him the Name above all other Names.
Mouth of babes the young David recalling his fight against Goliath. The wording
of the inscription or the introductory remarks is that David might have written this
psalm immediately fresh from that fight, in the glow of Gods work through his
hands. I Samuel 17 - Goliath was the Philistine, he taunted Israel to send out a
man to fight, Goliath went on for 40 days when David came into camp to deliver
food for his three older brothers. He became angry that the giant antagonized
Gods army. David was discouraged by his own brothers & King Saul but he
declared reliance only upon God who had given him victory in many private
battles against bears, wolves, and predators. David faced Goliath empty of any
armor with only a staff, a sling, and five smooth stones. David felled the giant and
took his head with the giants own sword.
David here typified, or made a picture, of Christ. They were sent by their Father,
born in Bethlehem, David means beloved & Jesus was Gods beloved Son, both

were hated by their own brothers, David was anointed king years before he
actually ruled just as Christ is King but will not rule until Satan is banished. Saul
typifies Satan who is defeated and dismayed yet allowed to reign until David takes
over. Satan, the god of this age, attacks Gods people now but is to be cast for
eternity in the lake of fire. The picture Christ is made from Psalm 8 is that He
overcame the giant in the land. Christ has regained all things lost by man in the
fall. Christ is exalted above the heavens and has exalted Gods Name. Gods glory
is no longer in a temple but above the heavens in Christ and in the hearts of every
believer.
3. The magnificence of the created order. Creation with its massive outpouring of
the universe, spinning un told #s of stars, billion upon billions, spread over a
tapestry of tens of billions of light Years (1 ly = 6 trillion miles). The smallest
piece of matter = atom which is a contained universe of electrons, protons, and
neutrons spinning around each other in a dance which defies the known laws of
nature Yet the God who gave a name to each star knows everything about you, me,
and all people who ever have or will exist. Romans 1:20
