This rugged Gamma Ray CCL tool is used with wireline perforating guns when very
accurate depth control is required. The Gamma/CCL tool is physically attached to the top
of a perforating gun after taking the measurement of distance from the CCL to the Gamma
Ray measure point and the distance to the top shot in the gun. The assembly is then run
into the well. After proper depth has been verified, the Gamma/Gun assembly is positioned opposite the zone to be perforated, and the gun may be fired with the Gamma Ray
tool still on the line. Safety is achieved by normally powering the tool on a positive D.C.
current and then switching to a negative D.C. current to fire the gun. A special safety firing circuit prevents the gun from being fired with the Positive polarity current. Different
models of the tool may feature either a Scintillation detector or a Geiger Mueller detector
with a special shock mounting designed to withstand the blast and shock of the perforator.
The temperature rating of the tool can be up to 350F for Scintillation Gamma Rays, and
up to 425F for Geiger Gamma Rays.

GENERAL
1. SUSPEND PERFORATING OPERATIONS AND ISOLATE LOADED GUNS WHEN CONFRONTED WITH ELECTRICAL
STORMS , DUST STORMS, OR THUNDER STORMS AT THE JOB SITE.
2. CONTINUITY CHECKS ARE TO BE PERFORMED ONLY WITH A BLASTING GALVANOMETER OR AN APPROVED
DIGITAL BLASTER MULTIMETER.

1. PERFORATING GAMMA RAY TOOLS USE AN ELECTRICAL ENERGY STORING DEVICE. WHEN ATTACHED TO A
WIRE LINE CABLE THE ENERGY STORAGE CAPABILITY IS INCREASED. DUAL DIODE AND SERIES RESISTANCE
(120 OHM) PROTECTION IS PROVIDED. HOWEVER, ANY ELECTRICAL DEVICE IS SUBJECT TO FAILURE.
TOOL POWER IS NOT TO BE APPLIED UNTIL THE INSTRUMENT IS AT LEAST 200 FT. (60 METERS) IN THE HOLE.
TURN OFF POWER AND PLACE SYSTEM IN THE SAFE POSITION WHEN THE GUN REACHES 200 FT. (60 METERS)
FROM THE SURFACE AS IT IS BEING WITHDRAWN FROM THE WELL.
2. USE RESISTOR TYPE CAPS.
3. THE TOOL IS DESIGNED TO RUN ON POSITIVE 120VDC. WHEN A NEGATIVE CURRENT IS APPLIED, WITH
RESPECT TO THE CABLE ARMOR, DETONATION OF THE BLASTING CAP WILL OCCUR.
4. MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR SHOOTING AND PERFORATING TOOLS ARE GENERALLY HIGHER AND
MUST HAVE TRAINED PERSONNEL TO ENSURE THE SAFE USE OF THESE INSTRUMENTS.
