Abstract
This study aimed to explore the influence of fraternity membership in the
leadership identity of the Local Chief Executive. A mixed method design was
used that incorporated qualitative inquiry and the descriptive analysis of
trends and patterns of the growth of the municipality in a sequential
exploratory manner. The qualitative interviews data was collected and
analyzed according to narrative inquiry analysis. Although the qualitative
interviews and quantitative survey data were analyzed separately, both
components were integrated in the discussion section. The researcher, after
the collection of data, transcribed, encoded, analyzed and finally presented
in a narrative format. Ten themes were identified in the qualitative data.
These themes were (1) Influence of Peers, (2) Defining Fraternity through
Experiences, (3) Service and Promotion of Well-being, (4) Associates and
Connections, (5) Facing Adversities, (6) Strategic Player, (7) Positive
Reinforcement, (8) Support Mechanism, (9) Inculcate Values, Morals and
Ideals, and (10) Modeling the way. The major findings of the study are the
following: (1) the Local Chief Executives fraternity membership enabled him
acquire to and develop values, morals and ideals that he had been able to

apply, (2) his membership enabled him to learn various experiences and
learnings from other people as well as discovering his strengths and
weaknesses, (3) fraternity enabled its members to exercise and develop
camaraderie among its members, and (4) fraternity membership were
helpful in winning

their position citing the voluntary help of its fellow

members to campaign during election period. Furthermore, the nature of


developing an identity as a leader and a local chief executives within a
fraternity

found

through

this

study

advance

the

perspective

that

membership in a fraternal organization assists local chief executives in


taking actions that cultivate leadership identity and contribute positively to
their area of development as well as to their municipalities formation of
growth. With the continuing growth of population and income provided the
local government unit higher tax revenue and contribute to the accelerating
growth of the municipality.
