A rise in inflation rate lowers the purchasing power of the currency i.e. every currency unit
purchases smaller amount of goods and services. Accordingly, real value of the unit of
account and medium of exchange in an economy is lowered. Influences of inflation in an
economy are numerous and are concurrently good and bad. Bad influences comprise of a
reduction in the real value of money and other financial items over time. Indecision with
regard to future inflation creates morel hazards that include rise of dishonesty, cheating,
corruption etc. That may discourage investment and savings thus hampering efficiency,
productivity, and growth, and may lower the competitive strength of a country's trade and
finally may result in currency devaluation. Positive effects include that central banks are
assured that these make adjustments in nominal interest rates to avoid or alleviate
recessions, and encourage investment in non-monetary capital projects.
