GENERAL RULES
1. This tournament is governed by the championship rules and guidelines of the European Haidong
Gumdo Association and is only open to current members of the European Haidong Gumdo
Association and the World Haidong Gumdo Federation.
2. All competitors must wear a complete Haidong Gumdo uniform with authorized markings only
(no visible clothing under the dobok).
3. Instructors participating in the bamboo cutting competition are required to wear white martial arts
shoes during the bamboo cutting competition. For all other divisions, wearing shoes during the
competition will result in disqualification (in case an exception is required due to medical
circumstances, please consult one of the judges prior to the competition).
4. At the beginning and ending of each performance, the competitor bows to the judges with the
sword out of the belt. This applies to all divisions.
5. Etiquette is of utmost importance within Haidong Gumdo. In the event that a competitor shows
bad etiquette, this may result in deduction of points or disqualification.
6. Note that in all divisions, male and female competitors may be combined. We reserve the right to
combine or add divisions to best accommodate everyone.
7. Competitors will be assigned to a division based on Geup or Dan promotions until August 31st,
2016. Example: promoted to 1st Dan on September 5th, 2016 means this competitor will compete
in the Color Belt [Goh Geup] division.
8. Competitors will be assigned to a division based on their age as of October 15th, 2016.
9. In case of a tie, competition will be repeated.
10. Championship rules may be visualized by video footage.

These rules and regulations are subject to change.

Remarks:

For all rounds: NO Chakgum in between. Only upon finishing all the Gumbubs.

All Gumbubs should start facing the front; towards the jury table.

The competitor may freely create the transitions between the dierent Gumbubs

If a participant can't perform a number because he/she didn't learn it yet, the participant has to perform the
number he knows a second time continuously.

1. Junbi command repeat with a loud junbi!

2. Sijak command start the gumbub with a loud kihap!

3. Chakgum is performed individually upon finishing all gumbubs.

Competitors will be judged, based on the following points:

Speed
: correct stance and balance while moving fast

Power
: correct stance and sword line while making powerful cuts

Accuracy : correct focus of the eyes, stance and sword line

Color Belts: Federation Mokgum mandatory

Black Belts: Federation Kagum mandatory

Main: 2 cuts [ left cut, right cut] - highest score (4 people)

Final: 360 jump spin to the right (as in SsangSoo Gumbub Nr. 9) and left cut with one
hand (single cut)

Remarks:

This is a one chance only competition.

Stand in front of the paper cutting target with the sword against your belt.

Junbi command > repeat with a loud junbi!

Paldo command > draw the sword (loud kihap) into Jayeon Kyeonjeokse

Sijak command > step into kimase and make the first cut.

Stop for a short moment after the cut.

Upon turning the swords direction, immediately make the next cut.

After the last cut, step back into Jayeon Kyeonjeokse and sheath the sword.

No points will be given for the cut if:

- the paper is not completely cut

- the cut enters the dark grey area

- the cut is performed with one hand(except during Black Belts Finals)

- balance is lost

- the paper is hit away and falls of its suspension

- after the cut one side of the paper is hit away and a piece of paper is still hanging on the suspension.

Remarks:

This is a one chance only competition.

Stand in front of the bamboo with the sword in your belt, held in your left hand.

1. Junbi command repeat with a loud junbi!

2. Paldo command draw the sword (loud kihap) into Jayeon Kyeonjeokse

3. Sijak command start the cuts

- The cuts have to be made continuously.


- In case of pausing in between the cuts, the cut will not be taken into account and no points will be given
4. After the last cut, step back into Jayeon Kyeonjeokse and sheath the sword

Main Round:

- Black belts (Women): 2 successful cuts in order to go to the next round

- Black belts (Men): 3 successful cuts in order to go to the next round

- Instructors and Masters: 3 successful cuts in order to go to the next round

Final Round:

- Drop-out system until 4 people with the highest score remain winners.

- Each successful cut is worth 10 points. No points will be given for the cut if:

the bamboo is not completely cut or split into parts

there are remainders after the cut

the bamboo is launched out of its seat

In the event that the bamboo pole falls down, no points will be given for all the cuts that were to follow. Example: = good cut (10 points); = bamboo pole falls down (0 points); = (0 points).

Group Paper Cutting

One round only - Final:

Each Competitor performs 2 cuts [ left cut, right cut] with both hands

Remarks:

This is a one chance only competition.

Each competitor's score will be added for a total team amount; the team with the highest result wins.

The score of disqualified competitors will not be added to the team result.

Group consisting of 6 persons with a maximum 3 Black Belts in the group.

The same rules apply to group paper cut as for individual paper cut.

One team per dojang.

Instructors are not allowed to participate.

minutes)

Free choice of uniform, music and material

Other weapons or attributes allowed for a maximum of 1 minute

One team per country

Instructors may participate

Competitors will be judged, based on the following points:

Teamwork

Complimentary points will be given per additional member

Regular attack 1 point:


Successful cut at all body parts, with the exception of the lower arms.

Advanced attack 2 points:


Successful cut after 360 degree spin (one or two hands allowed)


Successful cut after jump (one or two hands allowed)


Successful cut after roll or cartwheel (one or two hands allowed)

Warnings:


Thrusting


Slapping / Hitting (instead of cutting through)


Attack to lower body (under belt) from upright / standing position


Attack to lower arm (hands~elbow)


Attacking opponent who fell down


Attack with one hand without application of any advanced technique
