Greetings to the respected speaker, cautious timekeeper, honorable

judges, members of the government team and members of the floor.Welcome

from this side of the house. The motion for today's debate is Internet access is a
human right. We as the opposition team strongly stand against this
motion.before putting my team's case let me define todays motion [internet
,access ,human right]
[rebuttal]
[team line]
My first point today isInternet access is contrary to the true meaning of
human rights. It is important to note that Internet access is not a necessity in
the day-to-day lives of humans and doesnt even come close to the threshold to
be considered a basic human right. it is important to recognize the difference
between a necessity or a human right and goods such as access to the Internet.
Instead, the term necessity should be reserved to those items that humans
cannot live without, such as food, shelter, and water.
People can and do live without Internet access, and many lead very
successful lives.For instance,

Mikhail Prokhorov, The Brooklyn Nets owner does

not use the internet because it is referred by the Russian Billionaire as

unnecessary. If the word unnecessary is used to define internet then how can
we say it is needed by all human beings. If it is not a basic need why should it
become an human right?
We might think that internet access should be a human right because we
can gain information from it, but we fail to remind ourselves that information can
be gained through other media rather than just the internet. For instance, print
media, broadcast media and so much more. We cannot say that we will be
socially backwards without the internet because we can still be up to date
without internet access through other media I have mentioned before. So if we
are not entirely dependent on internet, why should it be a human right?
Moving on, Vint Cerf known as the father of the Internet said that
internet is a luxury not a human right .Internet is considered a luxury because
people can live without it..For instance, air conditioning and luxury cars should
exist, and are helpful, but there is a reason they aren't rights. When something is
declared as a human right, we must make sure that it is actually a basic need for
humans and an integral part of our lives. As we are all well aware, internet is not
so important in our lives that we should make it

With that, let us conclude that declaring Internet as a human right is a

total violation to the true meaning of human rights itself. I hope I have convinced
you that this motion today must fall. Thank you.
