In line with the campaign of the Department of Education (DepEd) in preparing the
school children with the knowledge, proper attitude and skills on what to do in case of a
natural disasters like earthquake, Maslog Elementary School conducted an earthquake drill
in the school campus last June 22, 2016 at exactly 9 oclock in the morning for earthquake
drills. Mr. Marlon T. Villaluz, the school disaster risk reduction management coordinator
(SDRRMC), led the activity with the approval of the principal, Mrs. Julia P. Macahig, all
teachers and their respective classes. The drill was carried out simultaneously and efficiently.
All grade levels occupied the designated area for them based on the school evacuation
plan.
Before the conduct of the earthquake drill, Mr. Villaluz instructed all the pupils and
teachers through film showing, and even parents of what to do in case of a disaster like an
earthquake. On June 22 during the morning break the bell sound rung for one minute as a
signal that an earthquake is currently happening. Everybody in their respective classes
ducked and covered themselves under their armchairs and tables. After that, the teachers
led their advisory classes in going to the designated evacuation area located in front of the
Flag pole for Grade III, IV, V and VI, while in front of school stage for kindergarten and Grade
I and II. They were grouped together according to the class where they belong. Then, all
classroom teachers did a headcount to make sure that all pupils are accounted for. The
School DRRM coordinator announced the end of the drill. In summary, the drill was
successfully implemented and nobody was injured because the routines were systematic
and everybody was cooperative during the activity.
