* Summer 2, 2016: GEEC Program *

Course Overview
Background:
The GEEC (Green Evening English Classes) program is the product of students request for 1. supplemental
English instruction in the evenings and 2. an alternative to TOEIC instruction. The course will run for 30 hours
of classroom instruction.
In general, the students enrolled in the GEEC program are fairly low level and have shown an inability to do
well on the TOEIC test. Since TOEIC is a graduation requirement and not all students want or need TOEIC,
GEEC was created as a viable alternative for those students. Successfully completing two (2) semesters of
GEEC will satisfy the TOEIC graduation requirement for the students.
Grading / Attendance:
GEEC is graded as Pass / Fail. A Pass or Fail is given based on the students Attendance, Participation and
completing one (1) TOEIC practice test and Exams. Teachers may elect to give quizzes or exams during the
course but this is not a requirement and will not affect a students final Pass or Fail. Please see below for
details of the seniors program.
Students will automatically Fail the program if they receive a TOTAL of two (2) negative marks in either the
Attendance or Participation components. For example: A student that is absent one day and present, but
sleeping, another day will have 2 negative marks and will, thus, fail the program. Absences may only be
excused with an OFFICIAL Excused Absence Form from the University (a doctors note or hospital note WILL
NOT count as an Excused Absence Form).
Students will also automatically fail is they do not take AT LEAST one (1) TOEIC practice test administered by
the university (the test schedule is below). Even with perfect Attendance and Participation, a student will Fail
if they do not take one (1) TOEIC practice test. Students need to bring you a paper copy of their TOEIC
completion certificate an example is located here:

The GEEC program is 30 hours long. Cancelled classes MUST BE made up. If you are going to miss a class due
to sickness or other issues you must arrange a suitable substitute as per Woosong policy.
Students enroll in the GEEC program just like any other class. Teachers will see the same students each week
during their assigned class time, class day and class number.
Textbook and Materials:
For Summer 2, 2016, GEEC will use the textbooks. English in Common 1 I have also added numerous links to
online resources you can use to supplement your class. If you have your own materials you wish to use, you
are certainly free to do so. Materials in the drive folders are just to assist you. You may substitute, modify or
ignore them.
I have separated materials based on Topics but some materials have many purposes and uses. Please feel
free to explore ALL the material folders regardless of your class topic. Many of the resources can serve
multiple class topics.
If at any point you feel you need help or direction, please contact Scott Walters at
wsuspecialprogramscoordiantor@woosong.org or at 010-8897-3746 and I will assist you in any way that I can.

Archiving Grades recorded as P or F only.

Keeping careful and accurate records on CAS is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Currently, the Woosong
system is not set-up to accommodate the grading for the GEEC program. We will need to make sure
that our CAS records are accurate because we will need to modify grades to fit the Woosong site as
follows:
