Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful summers day, from everyone at
the church. There is a wonderful passage of Scripture that has been going over
in my heart that I want to share with you. Ephesians 2:8-10 says, "For by
grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourself: it is the gift of
God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His
workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath
before ordained that we should walk in them." This is what separates
Christianity from every other religion in the world. We are saved by a faith we
were not born with, a belief system which is totally dependent on the Spirit of
God performing within us, and the fruit of it is a peace that passes all human
understanding! Many religions are based on human abilities or works, while
others mix God's mercy and human efforts. But the faith that Christ Jesus offers
us is solely dependent on God working within the heart of the believer.
God's Spirit has a divine influence on the heart of the believer. It does not
make us better than anyone else, but God's grace empowers us to live the life of
a Christian, which is otherwise impossible, for the human character is too
flawed through sin. "But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love
wherewith He loved us...hath quickened us together with Christ...and hath
raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ
Jesus" (Ephesians 2:4-6). We give all the glory to God for what He has done
for us! He included each of us in His divine plan of salvation. Knowing it is
only a work the Lord Himself can perform within our hearts, we have great
confidence that everything we go through will work together for good. Your
situation may not be ideal; it may even be troubling, or discouraging at times,
but the Lord never leaves us alone in our struggles. His grace empowers us to
overcome every obstacle. He is such a wonderful heavenly Father!
One morning a few weeks ago, I came home from church and sat on my
back porch with my wife. She was reading her Bible and told me of a verse of
Scripture she read and thought of me. Proverbs 23:26 says, "My son, give Me
thine heart, and let thine eyes observe My ways." We often try to fix things

that are broken ourselves, or improve relationships that are imperfect. Our
hearts easily become filled with anxiety over scenarios that probably will never
happen, yet the worry and care of it all overwhelms us. Stress may affect our
health. But our heavenly Father says to us, "My son, give me thine heart..."
What can you do more than to give our heavenly Father our hearts? Every issue
is a heart issue. We tend to react to situations in the wrong way, many times
making those things worse than they are. Trusting our heavenly Father is the
most important thing you can do when things are beyond your control. "My
son, give me thine heart." We are His sons and daughters. We have that
relationship with the Lord. He is "our Father." He can fix the problem if we
give Him our heart. There are many things I have been through where that is
the only thing I can do! Then He said, "And let thine eyes observe My ways."
How did Jesus act, react, or respond to the various events in His day? We read
the accounts in the four Gospels, so we have a pretty good idea what He was
like here on earth. We read what was important and what wasn't. That in itself
sometimes takes a lifetime! But we watch and listen and learn God's ways.
Funny how the Lord made us with two eyes, two ears, but only one mouth!
This is so His grace could be at work in and through us. The good we do is
because He is at work in our hearts.
Philippians 2:13 says, "For it is God which worketh in you both to
will and to do of His good pleasure." Will you give Him your heart today so
He may perform His good pleasure in you? Will you allow the Lord to give you
a gift of His grace so His divine influence will take you from where you are to
where you can be: in Him blameless and complete? In relationship we are His
sons and daughters through Christ. In ministry we are servants of His for His
name sake. These two areas of our lives are all of grace. Now more than ever,
let His grace abide in you. May God bless you "more abundantly" this month
and always!
I invite you to our church services. We meet at 624 Torringford West
Street in Torrington, CT. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 AM and 7
PM, and Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
