groundingleads.

AirborneUltrasonicDishConcentrator,
Internal,andUltrasonicExtensionWand
40kHzEachtimeaPDeventoccurs,an
ultrasonicemissionisproducedatthesiteof
thedefect.Ifthedefectisclosetothesurface,
thentheultrasonicsignalwillbecome
airborne.Thesignalmaybedetectedbyanyof
the3airborneultrasonicsensorsincludedwith
PDetectorkit.Oneisbuiltintothemainhandheldunit.Thedishandwandare
externallyconnectedbyaflexiblecord.

AcousticSignalAnalysis
Thereare4modesinwhichthePDetectorcananalyzetheacousticsignals.
AmplitudeModeShows4valuesinabargraphformat:averageamplitude,peak
amplitude,60Hzresonance,and120Hzresonance(adjustableforotherpower
frequencies).
Averageandpeakamplitudestellyouifanultrasonicsignalispresent.Comparisonof
60Hzresonanceand120Hzresonancetellsyouhowmuchofthesignalisvibrationand
howmuchisofthesignalisPD.TypicallyaPDsignalswillhaveastronger60Hz
resonancethan120Hz.Vibrationsignalswillhaveequal60Hzand120Hzvalues.

WaveformModeThismodeshowsacontinuousplottingoftheamplitudevsphase
angle.Itsdefaultsettingisa2cycleinterval.Thismeanstheamplitudesshouldpeak4
timesthroughouta33.2sinterval.AtypicalPDwillshow4distinctpeaksonthe
waveformmode.PDsignalsareveryjaggedandhavesharppeaks.Vibrationsignalsare
morerounded.
