Fluid incompatibility
Excessive pressures
Hose abrasion
Improper use
AIR AGED
SYMPTOM: Inner tube contains numerous fine longitudinal cracks. The hose remains flexible. No cracks are found
in the hose under the fittings.
CAUSE: Hose used in a dry air application that incorporates a desiccant drying system. May be due to refrigerated
air drying systems use.
SOLUTION: Replace hose assembly with one that is rated for extreme dry air such as EPDM.

HIGH TEMPERATURE
SYMPTOM: Hose is hard, brittle and resists bending. It may show visible signs on cover of being dried out and
charred.
CAUSE: Hose was exposed to heat in excess of recommended value. These conditions draw plasticizers out of the
rubber material causing it to turn hard and brittle. Any combination of oxygen and heat will also accelerate the
hardening of the inner tube. Cavitation may also create the same effect. Old aged hose may exhibit same symptoms.
SOLUTION: Replace hose assembly. Review application operating temperature. Lower operating temperature to
within the hoses working limits or replace the hose with one that has a qualified temperature rating. Install heat guards
or shields as required.
