Zoulek files complaint against Rep. Gannon
Danah Zoulek of Richfield filed a complaint with the
Wisconsin Government Accountability Board on Friday
against 58th Assembly District State Rep. Bob Gannon (RSlinger).
In the complaint, Zoulek accuses Gannon, one of his
staff members and a John Doe of criminal use of state
resources for a political purpose.
The complaint states that Gannon allegedly sent a news
release Monday which read in part I do not support term
limits on a local level and if I were a village resident I
would probably vote no on this referendum. Zoulek
claims in the complaint Gannons statements were done
purely for political purposes and he and the others were
advocating for the election or defeat of a closely identifiable candidate or a particular vote on a referendum using
state resources clearly in violation of state law.
Zoulek is running for a seat on the Richfield Village
Board and also circulated petitions to have two referendum questions on the April ballot in the village. One calls
for term limits of village board members. The other calls
for expanding the board from five to seven members. She
is also a candidate for the Washington County Board of
Supervisors District 22 seat.
Gannon said he doesnt believe he violated the law and
only made public statements on the issue after he alleged
that supporters of the referendum on term limits had misstated his position. He felt compelled to make a public
statement about incorrect information about his position.
I favor state and federal term limits of 12 years for a
multitude of reasons, though I do not see the same reasons
applying at the local, county or school board level,
Gannon said. At the state and federal levels there are usually many contenders for the seats, which means term limits are needed to allow others to serve. This is not usually
the case for local seats, which have fewer applicants and
therefore do not need term limits to ensure continual rotation of those serving.
Gannon said he has no opinion on the second Richfield
referendum question.
