Does Ragging Develop Friendship?

Ragging is not a violence. It is just making fun of everyone with

everyone. Thats all. But some take it as a chance to show up their
superiorioty over juniors. they should be punished. at first juniors cannot
directly contact to their seniors. so ragging is a chance to express our
qualities like patience, calmness, adjustment etc that may attract them. It
will surely lead to friendship.

Even i have experience ragging, by my senior. its really enjoyable. It

depends on what level it is being practiced in. Some people sense of
amusement can be fatal for other. Ragging was initial just a way of
getting introduced to seniors but these days it is just another way to get
mentally tortured. Some of the seniors can be down right nasty and try to
make their junior's life miserable just because they consider it as fun. It
is the hostle students who are worst affected, they cannot protest against
their seniors as that would lead to cornering of them by a group of senior
students. Though ragging can be controlled by bringing in rules it is
important to make the students understand their mistake. They should
know where to draw line.

Ragging itself gives us a general meaning in our mind that it is

absolutely wrong. It is not good on the part of senior students to rag on
the fresh commers. The freshers are too young and would have come
from the school level and some are too sensitives to certain issues that
they cannot cope to such circumstances. There are cases where some of
the girl candidates have lost their life. If the ragging in colleges are

causing such great misheavels then why should such a thing be

encouraged. It should be stopped. Even though Government have
restricted this, there are cases where we still see raging prevailing. We
educated should understand the ill effects of it and stop it.

One we have entered into college campus, means we have become a

matured person almost. In the school days, we will be within the four
walls of the campus. Once we come to college campus it will be not like
school. In school almost for several years we will be having the same
friends, same teachers, same benches, same class rooms. But coming to
the college everything will be new including the books and syllabus.

May be because of this reason, in the olden days they might have said
that old students should help the new comers to adjust to the new
atmosphere. But in turn it has become so worse now. The first day of my
college is such a wonderful thing in life. It should be remembered for
ever. The same should be like a story which should be told to grand
children too. But in the present days, some new comers are commiting
suicide because of ragging. Even the animals will welcome the new
friends. But we are educated animals. We are not allowing the new
comers to become a part of the college and make good and healthy
friendship. But we are making them to think college is like a jungle and
entering the college is like entering the tiger's cage. Though Government
has made so many restrictions on ragging, but no body bothers about
that. So, making rules is not solves the problem, the mind of the people
should be changed. Old students should be taught and severity of the
problem. If they understand that everything will be calm and quite. This
is only my feeling.

Ragging has a different perception for different people. Some think it as

a harassment. Some take it in a sporty mood. Some freshers liked being
ragged and enjoy it. But it should be healthy ragging. Ragging is a very
good medium to develop a communication between juniors and seniors
and thus build up a good rapport between them. So ragging is important
but it should have some limits...........people crossing the limits make it a
nightmare for others and also sometime takes the life of others. We have
heard cases of suicide because of ragging.

Ragging as a means of getting introduced is acceptable. It should be

limited to some simple tasks-like general knowledge related questions,
intellectual test, singing, dancing, singing, etc. But some seniors forget
this & physical ragging starts. This is totally wrong & has resulted in
quarrels & fights among students in medical & engineering colleges.
Some students have committed suicides.

Recently student from B J MEDICAL COLLEGE,PUNE had kidney

failure due to severe physical exertion which he was forced to do.
College Dean has taken serious action against the student involved in
this. Both were north indian students. This strict action is a welcome
sign & is a warning for others.

North indian students are especially involved in physical ragging.

Students make a group & harass juniors. There are so many stories about

ragging which people never come to know as students don't talk. It is

only because of strict action taken nowadays & formation of 'ANTIRAGGING COMMITTEES BY PROFESSORS", SUCH STORIES
ARE PUBLISHED. Hope in future, ragging incidence decreases &
juniors will have a better life

Ragging is not a necessity to be friendly with seniors. In some way it

helps the juniors to do away with their fears, complexes etc. It is
welcomed as far as the victims are not hurt. But as you said when it
reaches the level of harassing the juniors physically and mentally it
should not be allowed. It should be in such a way experience of being
ragged by the seniors be a fonded memory to share with their children
and friends when they grow old.

I remember when I was admitted to college, I used to have nightmares

about being ragged and I was very scared and shaky in the beginning.
However, the year after I was just the opposite, I ragged my juniors
though never seriously, and within limits, without hurting their
sentiments...I say this because later when we became friends I asked
them and this is what they said. However, I do feel that ragging is not
required to make a person comfortable. Many of my friends had the
view that some people are so reserved that it's very difficult to bring
them out an understand them unless such means are adapted where they
will be forced to speak up and we may get to know them.
However, it should never cross limits and cause harm to others.

Introduction between the juniors and seniors are required. But to know
each other, ragging is not the mediator. They can have a meeting
welcoming the new comers and know each other. This makes their
relationship more powerful than knowing each other with the help of
ragging. Ragging is only Ok when it is in its limits such as dancing,
singing introduction but when it comes to personal harassment it hurt a
lot. Nowadays we see large amount of unsocial things resulting from
ragging such as MMS violence GANG WARS etc if end result is good
then such things can be carried out but most of it results it personal
harassment and hurt feelings.

Ragging is a very healthy topic to have a discussion on. Ragging is

simply the mixing of seniors with juniors. The seniors try to entertain
themselves. By ragging seniors and juniors are introduced to each other.
I think so that ragging should be limited. As far as i am concerned
ragging always benifited me. It is going on for ages and now its a part
of induction program new students attend in the college. What makes
ragging so nasty and hated word is its execution. If conducted in
controled manner, ragging is the best way to get know your seniors and
also for freshers to know their seniors. Sometimes seniors tends to cross
the edge and then it becomes the pride issue.

When we are ragging the juniors some takes it lightly and used to get

worried about this. When I was in the first year, my seniors also ragged
me but I was not afraid of them. But few months later we all become a
good friends.
