Technology Workshop: Schoology Lesson Plan

Blended Learning Made Easy.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will become familiar with ISTE (NETS) technology standards for

teachers and students.

Participants will understand what blended learning is and what a blended online

class is.
Participants will create a Schoology account and be able to navigate the basic

features of the website.

Participants will create one activity/assignment that their students will be able
to view, learn and complete that ties in with content currently being covered in

the classrooms.
Participants will discover how to use Schoology to allow for personalized
learning, improve classroom management, and ensure differentiation in the

classroom.
Participants will create goals with dates on how they will implement Schoology
into their own classrooms. Implementation of Schoology will promote student
learning and creativity, addressing diverse learning styles, and enabling the
students to manage their own learning.

Agenda

Workshop Procedure (This will spread among several 1 hour staff meetings):
1. Introduce the workshop by reinforcing our three main school improvement goals:
increase student achievement, improve classroom management, and ensure
differentiation.
2. Have participants take the pre-workshop survey.
3. Pass out handout on blended learning and watch small video.
4. Pass out the NETS-T and NETS-S Standards. Have learning communities check the
standards that they already implement in their classrooms. Discuss standards that
may not be currently implemented.
5. Discuss how these standards, and technology in general, positively impact student
achievement using the ISTE Common Core Technology Standards flyer.
6. Pass out Making Blended Learning Easy Handout. Explain handout while
teachers begin to navigate to www.schoology.com
7. Watch the Screencast created by presenter (Natasha Smith). The Screencast
navigates through the entire Schoology platform.
8. After the introduction of the basic features of Schoology, all participants will
create their free account. All participants will start very basic and improve their
course later.
9. Learning communities will discuss how the blended learning class could impact
student achievement, improve classroom management, and provide a means for
differentiation within their classrooms.
10. Participants will take the post-workshop survey.
11. Presenter (Natasha Smith) will review participant responses/request and input
ideas/thoughts/request on the professional development (technology workshop)
Weebly website.
Evaluation/Assessment:
Informal Assessment: Instructor will informally assess participants on their
understanding of the basic features and uses of Schoology by observing the participants
as they create their own Schoology Blended Learning Module. Guidance and redirection
will be provided for participants who seem to struggle with the basics of the program.
This guidance and redirection will continue after the workshop as well.
Formal Assessment: Participants will complete the pre- and post-workshop survey and
results will be analyzed and evaluated by the presenter (Natasha Smith).

Follow-Up Observations: Participants will be observed periodically to ensure

understanding of Schoology with little technical problems. Observations will be done by
administration and presenter.
