Section C
[20 marks]
[Time suggested : 20 minutes]

Read the text below.

Samuel and his family chose a homestay at a Malay village when they
holidayed in Kedah. The festivities began upon their arrival. Along with
several other families, they were warmly welcomed. A few men played the
kompang while several young boys performed silat as they walked into
the village.
Then, the families were introduced to their foster families. After that,
they were led to a shady area near a river. Food was already laid out on
several mats. After a hearty meal, Samuel and his family went to their
foster family's house.
The following day, Samuel woke up early. He went outside to look at
the river. Some villagers were out in their boats. Samuel hoped he would
get to try that. After breakfast, the family were taught how to weave mats
and baskets.
Just before 11.30 a.m., Samuel and the other families went to a paddy
field. There, a villager showed them how to catch a duck. Then, he invited
them to join him. With so many people in the field, it soon became a
muddy mess. Since everyone spend more time having fun trying to get
unstuck from the mud, no ducks were caught.
After a lengthy bath, Samuel and his family had dinner. As the families
ate, they were entertained by a performance of traditional dance and
music. Samuel was very tired but he fixed his gaze on the performance.

Question 5 : Read the poem below carefully. Then, answer questions(a)
(d)
A Fighters Lines
I am old and worn
And have lost all my strength
Sufferings
And the history of the fight for independence
Have forced sacrifices
That know no name
Or life
From the wheelchair of the rest of my days
I, body and energy crushed
See and cannot do much
These times are too big a challenge
For the remnants of my crippled years
The net of deceit spread everywhere
Disturbs me
In the name of justice
Wake up and form ranks sons of our ancestor
Be brave
And erect a wall of people
Stand up heirs of our freedom
I have no more voice
It is you now who should speak!
