CurricularAreasAssessmentProcedureAbilityofstudentlearningcompetencycannotbeassessed
onlythroughpaperpenciltest.SoitisnecessarytofollowFormativeAssessmentinadditiontoSummativeAssessmentby
usingdifferenttools.
FormativeAssessmentProcedure
FormativeAssessmentisthebackboneinnewlyproposedCCE.Thefourtoolsinformativeassessmentarehelpfultothe
teachertoassesshis/herstudentsinothercognitiveareaslikecommunication,participation,presentation,aestheticsetc.
Therearefourformativesinayear.Soteachershouldrecordfourtimes(July,September,DecemberandFebruary).The
proposedfourtoolsandmarksallotmentofformativeassessmentarehereunder:
1.Childrenparticipationandreflection(ForlanguagesReadanybookotherthantextbookandwriteareport,
Mathematicsprepareownproblemsandsolution,Sciencepreparelabreportonexperimentdonebyhim/her,
SocialExpressopinionsoncontemporaryissues)10marks
2.Projectworks(AnyothersuitabletoolmaybedevelopedbyteacherpreparationandpresentationofProjects,
Modelmaking,art,paintingsetc)10marks
3.Writtenworks(ownexpressionsinnotebooks,fieldobservation,datacollectionandanalysisreports,creative
writingsetc)10marks
4.SliptestSliptestshouldbeconductedonselectedAcademicStandards.Thereisnoneedtoconductsliptestina
specifiedtimetablelikeourconventionalunittestexaminations.Itisinformalinnatureteacherhas,freedomto
conductsliptestinhisregularclassroomtransaction20marks.
Total50marks.
Fortheeffectiveimplementationofformativeassessmentallteachersaretobetrainedandequipthemhowtocreatesuitable
learningenvironmentandteachinglearningprocesstomakethestudentstoachievegoals
Studentshouldget18markstopassinFormativeAssessment.
EventhoughtherearetwopapersinSummativeTestthereisnoneedtoconductpaperwisesliptestandremainingthree
toolsseparatelyforclassIX.Teachershavefreedomtoselecttopicsoracademicstandardsfromsyllabusofbothpapers.
IncaseofScience,PhysicalScienceandBiologicalScienceteachersconductandrecordFormativeAssessmentseparatelyfor
50markseach.
FinallyaddbothPhysicalScienceandBiologicalSciencemarksandreducedto50thatwillberecordunderSciencesubject.
SummativeAssessmentProcedure
Thereare3SummativeAssessmentsinayear(August/September,December/January,March/April).Incaseofclass
X,PublicExaminationwillbeintheplaceofthirdSummativeTesttobeconductedbyBoardofSecondary
Education.
Summative1and2questionpapersforClassVItoIXshouldbedevelopedbyDistrictCommonExaminationBoard.
DistrictCommonExaminationBoardshouldconductworkshopbyinvitinggroupofteachersforeachsubjectfor
questionpaperpreparation.
ForSummative1and2,eachpapercontains80marksforclassVItoVIIIonly,whereas40marksforeachpaperin
ClassIXandX.(Hindiwillbe80marks).
Summative3finalexaminationquestionpapersClassVItoIXshouldbepreparedbySCERTandMailtoallDEOsfor
printinganddistribution.
AcademicStandardsWeightages,numberofquestions,natureofquestionsshouldbesimilarforallclassesi.e.,Class
VItoX.

Allteachersshouldbetrainedonnewlyintroducedevaluationprocedures,becausequestionsaretobeopenended,
multipleanswered,scopeforindividualexpression,creativeinnature.
NumberofquestionpapersforclassVItoVIIIareoneforeachsubjectwhereastwopapersforIXclass(except
Hindi)forallSummativeExaminations.SoinclassIXthereare11paperssimilartoclassX.
SpecificinstructionsshouldbegiventoteachersaboutpaperwisesyllabusforclassIXandX.
InSummative3,eachpapercontains80marksonlyfromclassVItoVIIIwhereas40marksforClassIXandX
becausethereare2papersineachsubject(Hindiwillbesinglepaperwith80marks).
Passpercentagewillbe35%forallthelanguagesandnonlanguagesubjects.
Sostudentshouldcompulsoryget27marksinSummative3finalexamination.
Finallystudentisawarded100marks(80%fromSummativewhichisfinalexamand20%marksoutof360from4
FormativesAssessments(50x4=200),
2SummativeAssessments(802=160)respectively.
Ifastudentgets27marksinexternalexam,he/sheshouldcompulsorilyget8marksfrom20%ofinternalsforthe
optimumpassmarkwhichis35,butthereisnopassmarkin20%ofinternals.
Ifastudentgetslessthan8ininternals,he/shemustgetremainingmarkstoreach35fromexternalexamination,for
example,ifastudentgets5marksininternalshe/shemustget30marksfromexternals.
These20%internalmarksfromschoolareonlybonusmarks,theymaynotinfluenceanywayonstudentspassmark.
CoCurricularAreasAssessmentProcedure
Assessmentdonotconfinetocognitiveareas,itisimportanttoobservehowstudentparticipateinotherlearning
environmentsi.e.,debates,discussions,projects,seminars,fieldworks,modelmaking,labactivities,literary
associationmeetings,clubactivities,gamesandsports,culturalactivities,creativeactivitiesetc.Theseareallthe
activitieswhichleadtoallrounddevelopmentofthestudent.
Nopublicexamshallbeconductedinthesesubjects.However,theseareaswillbeevaluatedforthreetimesinan
academicyeari.e.quarterly,halfyearlyandannually.Teachersshallobserveandawardmarks.Theaveragewillbe
takenintoaccountandthedetailsofgrademustbesubmittedonlinebyHMtoDirector,Govt.Examsafter
verificationbythemoderationcommittee.
AssessmentofCoCurricularareasisdifferentfromcurricularareas.Teachershouldobservethelevelofparticipation,
intereststowardsacrosscurricularactivities,skillsandabilitiesbyusingdifferenttoolslikeobservations,discussions,
ratingscales,sociograms,projectworksetc.
SCERTshoulddevelopsuggestiveCoCurricularAssessmenttoolstoenabletheteacherstodevelopandutilizedtools
inpropermanner.
Parttimeteachersaretobeappointedforcocurricularareaslikedance,music,drawing,computers,workexperience
etc.OtherwiseHMshouldallottheresponsibilityofconductingthesecocurricularactivitiesfollowedbyassessment
totheteachers.Initially,choicemaybegiventotheteacherstoselecttheareasbasedontheirinterest.Ifitisnot
possible,theHMshouldallotcocurricularactivitiestotheworkingteachersassuggestedhereunder:

ArtandCulturalEducationScienceteachersWorkandComputerEducationMathsteachersHealthandPhysicalEducation
PET/Socialteachers.
QUALITATIVEASPECTS
Natureofthequestionpapersandquestions:
Thenatureofquestionsaretobeopenending,descriptive,analyticwhichtestschildrenabilitiesofthinking,critical
analysis,judgmentsandleadstoselfexpressionandawayfromrotememory.Childrenmustbetrainedtothinkcriticallyand
constructtheanswersontheirown.Ensuringthatlearningisshiftedawayfromrotemethodsandmemoryoriented,focus
onselfexpressionanddoawaywithusingofguidesandstudymaterialandmemorizingofanswers.
Thequestionsshouldmakethechildrenthinkandwrite.Thequestionsshouldbeanalytical,applicationorientedandopen
ended.
Thequestionsonceappearedinpublicexamsshouldnotberepeated.
Thequestionsgivenintheexercisesofthetextbookundereachunitandlessonmustnotbegivenassuch.Theyareonly
suggestive.Thequestionsmustreflecttheacademicstandards.

Typeofquestions(essay,shortanswer,veryshortanswerandobjectivequestions)andacademicstandardwisequestions

Proceduresforrecordingandmonitoringofassessmentdata
Childrenperformanceshouldberecordedintheformofcumulativerecord.Thisrecordcontainscontinualaspects
i.e.,FormativeAssessmentEvaluationduringinstructionalprocess,periodicityofaspecti.e.,SummativeAssessment
Evaluationattheendofterm.Allrounddevelopmentofthestudentpersonalityinscholastic,coscholasticaspects
tofulfilevaluationisacomprehensionone.
SCERTshoulddevelopmodelofcumulativerecordswhichshouldbesuppliedtoallschoolsbySSA,RMSAtorecord
studentsperformanceatPrimaryandHighSchoollevelsseparately.Properguidelinesrequiredtomaintainsuch
RecordsandRegistersshouldbegiven.
SpecificRecordsandRegistersshouldbemaintainedbytheteacheraswellasschool.SCERTtakeresponsibilityto
designsuchmodelskeepinginviewofdatarequirementsofSSAandothereducationalagencies.Thisavoids
repetitionofwork.
SCERTshoulddevelopsoftwareforonlinemonitoring,HMsshouldtakeresponsibilitytopoststudentwise
performanceinonlineformat.
SCERTopenCallCentertollfreenumberwillhelpallmanagementsandinstitutionsforsmoothfunctioning
