Theory-Based Profile of Fictitious Student: Explanation about how a kindergartener learns
and develops, based on different learning theorist.

ANALYSIS OF WHAT I LEARNED FROM EACH ARTIFACT (IN RELATION TO THE

ABOVE STANDARD):
I learned about different stages of development based on Piagets and Eriksons theories.
I learned how these developmental stages relate to students in my classroom.
HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO
THE ABOVE STANDARD):
Through the creation of this artifact, I gained knowledge of learning theories that I could
apply to my understanding of student development. I better understand how 5-6 year
olds grow, develop, and make sense of the world around them. Gaining this knowledge
helps me grow in my ability to design and implement developmentally appropriate and
challenging learning experiences.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EACH ARTIFACT (EVIDENCE):

Disequilibrium Video: In this video, I start the lesson off by putting the children in a state
of disequilibrium to spark curiosity. Then we correct the order of events together. To
conclude the students create their own representation.
KWL Chart: Video of a small group constructing a KWL chart.
Field Journal: My reflection to the video and explanation of how I met sub-standards of
the InTASC standards through the KWL lesson.
ANALYSIS OF WHAT I LEARNED FROM EACH ARTIFACT (IN RELATION TO THE
ABOVE STANDARD):
I learned how to incorporate strategies that enable each learner to meet high standards.
I learned how to build on learners prior knowledge. Through reflection, I learned about
areas that need improvement in my lessons.
HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO
THE ABOVE STANDARD):
Incorporating the KWL, I was able to build on learners prior knowledge by asking them
what they know. After completing the field journal reflection, I was presented with the
idea of asking my students How they know? This idea will help me grow in relating the
content to students experiences. Both the disequilibrium lesson and KWL lesson
demonstrate growth in my ability to bring multiple perspectives to the discussion. Each
lesson involves encouraging discussion from all students.

colleagues and parents. Creating the Newsletter encouraged me to work on encouraging
parents to be active in their childs learning.

HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO

THE ABOVE STANDARD):
The newsletter demonstrates my ability to engage parents in the classroom even if they
are not able to come and volunteer. A newsletter helps to keep them engaged in their
childs learning by communicating the content we will be covering that week. The
creation of the website represents growth in multiple ways. I am able to communicate
with parents and colleagues. The blog allows for people to comment their perspectives.
The screencast provides the opportunity for me to share values and ideas with parents
and colleagues.

independently

ANALYSIS OF WHAT I LEARNED FROM EACH ARTIFACT (IN RELATION TO THE

ABOVE STANDARD):
I learned different ways to represent and explain the objective. This activity encouraged
me to understand the idea of learning progressions.

HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO

THE ABOVE STANDARD):
The artifact selected is a good representation of my growth in content knowledge. It
shows my ability to effectively use multiple representations and explanations that
capture key ideas (ex. Video, explanation, discussion, and model representation of unit
blocks). Throughout the lesson I created opportunities for students to learn, practice, and
master the content.

implement multiple forms of assessment to monitor learner progress.

HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO

THE ABOVE STANDARD):
Creating these assessments, for my students, helped me further my skills in the creation
of assessments. I had to be sure to match them to the learning objectives and make sure
that they allow for multiple ways of demonstrating knowledge and skill. The use of
videotaping during formative assessment was a very beneficial aspect while creating this
artifact. It allows me to have evidence of each learners progress and to guide planning
for the future.

student interest, and prior knowledge of learners.
HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO
THE ABOVE STANDARD):
To begin this assignment I had to first evaluate the formative and summative assessment
data of Mr. Joness students, allowing me to understand the learners prior knowledge. I
also had to familiarize myself with Mr. Joness students interest survey in order to plan
engaging lessons for each student. All of these things encompass part 7(d) of the
standard. After studying the information presented, my task was to choose appropriate

strategies and accommodations, resources, and materials to differentiate instruction for
individuals and groups of learners (7b). I suggested many different learning center ideas
that incorporated the students interest. The centers also allow each child to make
choices and work at their own pace. This plan provides multiple ways for each student to
demonstrate his or her knowledge and skill (7c).

HOW EACH ARTIFACT DEMONSTRATES MY GROWTH AND SKILL (IN RELATION TO

THE ABOVE STANDARD):
Developing a summary sheet of useful iPad apps in the classrooms demonstrates my
growth in the ability to provide a variety of instructional strategies. In my classroom,
children have access to technology tools that encourage them to build skills and apply
their knowledge. Evaluating the differences between traditional teaching and 21 st
century teaching deepened my understanding of the role of teachers, students,
computers, lessons, and environments. Article reviews, in this artifact provide me with
strategies of how to vary my role in the instructional process.
