A. Introduction
This is a level 4 module within the Engineering Subject Area. This module is a
core module for BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering.
The full module specification (for this and all of your other modules) can be
found on Moodle under: ACE Noticeboard > ACE Module specifications.
A.1. Aims
- to introduce and assess problem solving techniques in mathematics
facilitating learning in other civil engineering subjects as well as in everyday
life situations.
- to introduce the basic theories of fluid mechanics.
Safety briefings will be carried out in the first 10 minutes at the start of
each laboratory session students who arrive after the safety
briefing will not be allow to undertake the laboratory class
A.4.4. Feedback
Feedback will be given in a variety of ways:
120 hours
180 hours
[Note: Student Learning Time means private study i.e study outside of
lectures/tutorials/laboratories etc. So 180 hours student learning time over
24-28 weeks equates to 6.5 - 7.5 hours private study per week for this
module!]

C. Assessment Methods
This module will be assessed by two examinations (one in Maths and one for
Fluid Mechanics), a Portfolio of Tutorial Exercises and a series of
Presentation[s] of Practical Findings detailing spreadsheets developed to
analyse simple problelms in fluid mechanics
UEL assessment regulations required you to achieve a 40% average overall
and more than 30% in each component to pass any module on your
programme.
The weighting of assessments and relation to learning outcomes are as
follows:

C.1. Examinations
Both examinations for this module will be based upon material covered in
lecture time, tutorial time and from indicated wider reading. Each examination
will be 1 hour 30 mins long.
This is the first time that this module has run so specific past papers for this
module are not available however relevant past examinations questions will
be indicated during lecture and tutorial time and posted on Moodle> EG4103
