The US today has the most number of people behind bars or in
other words, the biggest collection of humans who are silently
rotting away in its prisons and jails. About 2,300,000 people are wasting their lives away inside the gross and very badly unpleasant cells of US federal, state and local district jails. Inside these cells and cubicles are taking place real events and vivid tales of unbelievable horror that are probably not found anywhere else. Torture, systematic abuse, gang warfare, terror, drugs, sex slavery, racial violence and a thousand and one other total unmentionables exist in these places. Despite all these terrible developments, the justice system in the US is completely hell-bent on sending as many more as possible to these places. The result is very bad overcrowding within the walls of US prisons and this has forced conditions inside to deteriorate greatly and its residents are slowly being turned into animals. It is said that US prisons are the very institutions for serious criminal learning. The US is a society where the fast, the quick and the tricky and the powerful get the advantage over others. Despite its many colleges, legal institutions and other centres of great human learning and knowledge, there is no genuine justice or real fairness in US society. In countless scenes throughout the US, minority people are often stopped by the authorities and detained for very minor or even totally imaginary offences. Any person foolish enough to object to the actions of these people in uniform are either met with fists, arms or tasers and thrown into local jails. They can then expect to face a number of trumped up charges like 'disorderly conduct' plus 'abusive behaviour'. This is why many normally and ordinarily innocent people often find themselves inside the completely alien jail cells of Uncle Sam. Possibly one in twenty males in the US resides in these cells at any one time today. The composition of the jail population in the US is said to broadly reflect the kind of social maladies in the country. Many people routinely stopped by US police are from minority groups and the same thing is reflected in the prison dwellers. Seventy per cent of convicted felons in the US are non-whites. Most offences are related to urban poverty, unemployment, the dire lack of social opportunities and an abundance of drugs. So unbelievable, yet this situation still exists in the US. However, the composition of jail guards, wardens and officers is just the opposite. The overwhelming majority of them are whites and are males even in women's facilities. Shocking. This lopsided population composition of US jails of both staff and inmates has led to a number of very serious problems. In many prison facilities in the US, the white minority inside these jails group together and form criminal gangs for mutual protection. They often beat up or kill fellow prisoners plus hostile wardens. In turn, other groups like the black, Latino and Asian inmates form their own criminal gangs. These prison gangs often operate drug rings, protection squads and murder operations inside and outside their prisons. Sex slavery is also one part of their daily activities. Sometime rape takes place among the prisoners with the wardens not bothering to intervene. Worse, it has been documented that in some prisons facing budget cuts and possible closures, prison wardens have often encouraged inmates to use violence against one another. Their aim is to keep their jobs and perhaps other forms of side income as well. These prisons in the US only churn out hardened criminals and this has led to personal vendettas among former convicts. The feuds and quarrels that began while in jail are often carried on once outside. Many people end up murdered, often shot, run over, dragged to death or gone permanently missing. It is the source or wellspring of numerous hate crimes in the US. Other prisoners come out infected with various diseases, some quite fatal like hepatitis, HIV and other kinds of infections. Many became ill during imprisonment caused by close proximity and contact with infected inmates plus the very sorry state of medical care in US jails. Budgets are being reduced everywhere for US prisons and money for maintenance and medical costs are hard to come by. Really unbelievable. Yet the US government could provide US$700 billion for the US armed forces. And this amount does not include the operating costs and daily expenditures of the Afghanistan adventure. Thus the US is a country not only with the most number of jail inmates but perhaps also with the worst prison record in the world. Its prison system has not avoided the so-called practice of doubling or tripling. This practice refers to the habit of putting more people into a cell than it can reasonably hold. As such the jails in the US are like rat nests. More and more prisoners get crammed in as time goes by. But those facilites never get enlarged. The result is greatly increasing rates of mental illness among the prison population. The US has a lot to answer for with regard to its treatment of its citizens who have so unluckily found themselves behind metal bars. But what about those who are non-citizens ? There are about 40,000 foreigners and stateless people in US federal jails and roughly twice that number in state and local prisons. Certainly the US is one hellish place for unfortunate people. It is time for US bosses like Barack, Biden and Clinton to go inspect the interior of all US jails to see for themselves what the real situation is like. It is most irresponsible and bad for these bosses to travel round the globe busily lecturing, teaching and judging other people ! Judge yourselves first. Take a look at your local jails, then the ones in Gitmo, the secret cells in many locations overseas and also those in Afghanistan. The US indeed has a lot to answer for. It is time to stop all the travels and get down to work ! How would you explain all that awful rotting now taking place inside all those US jails ? The inside of US jails is certainly very similar to the decaying bellies of dead creatures. Remember it.
