I brainstormed ideas and came up with a gate-fold brochure for a park. I created my logo in
Illustrator and used a font that was bold and easy to read. I used Photoshop to cut out the
image of the basketball hoop and wrapped the text around it. I used InDesign to create the
layout of the brochure. I used repetition in the lines throughout the brochure. I used pictures
that depicted things pertaining to Lewis Park.

Instructor:

Objective:
Learn basic photography skills.
Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance
Size and crop the image
Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop
Use a f ilter or colorize a portion of the image
Desaturate the selected portion of the image

Process:
I checked out a Canon digital camera from the library and went and got different shots of
shoes in different positions. I loaded them on my computer and chose the one I liked the
most. I used Adobe Photoshop to make the four basic edits L-V/S-SC-S to make the photo
stand out. I wanted to create repetition and use a color scheme that would bring out the red
shoes and picked a split complimentary color scheme. I used repetition in the rounded rectangle shapes. I used the rulers to guide my alignment. I created the color swatches and placed
them so it wasnt the focal point of the photo.

Instructor:
Brother Ben Pingel

Objective:
Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 - 500 pixels.
Describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience.
Acquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Identify hex colors to match logo for web design
Compress multiple f iles in a zipped folder to attach as one f ile

Process:
I began by using illustrator to create a background that portrayed what Tummy Time Blankets look like. I used TextWrangler to make my changes to the HTML and CSS f iles. I looked
up on the web how to create columns to add a different look to my webpage. To create
repetition and unity I made another color box in the middle of the page. I centered my logo
and changed the border to a square shape and also made the border dashed.

Montage
Description:
An inspirational montage created by blending more than two pictures together to make a
new image and also using the rules of typography.

Course number and section:

COMM 130, Section 1

Instructor:
Brother Ben Pingel

Objective:
Learn to blend two or more images together gradually, using masks
Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements
Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image
Apply typography principles

Process:
I used Photoshop to create this design. I used the masking tool to blend the clouds into the
background picture. I used different opacities to blend the images into one. To add to the right
side, I used a picture of Christ and blended his picture with the clouds. I used a lower opacity
(20%) to blend Christs picture with the sky. I picked a color scheme and emphasized the
words I felt were powerful. I used a script font to bring out Choose and Right, then a sans
serif to bring out God and heaven.

COMM 130, Section 1

Instructor:
Brother Ben Pingel

Objective:
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Use text boxes for layout in Word
Insert and edit images in Word

Process:
I found an image from the April 13, 2015 Sports Illustrated and used that as my back ground
after scanning it into the computer. I used the functions of Microsoft Word to create my logo
and box in the image. I wanted to keep it simple but still have a lot of alignment to portray
the most important part, Hoops for Hunger. I created a box so the words inside were readable. I used two contrasting fonts but made my title big so it popped. I used an Epson scanner
to scan in my image, Microsoft Word and PDF2JPEG.net to convert my image to JPEG.

Black and white f lier for graduating seniors to attend a leadership conference to help them
prepare for their careers.

Programs Used:
Adobe InDesign

Date:

Course number and section:

COMM 130, Section 1

Instructor:
Brother Ben Pingel

Objective:
Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic f lier layout.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in
InDesign intact.

Process:
The f irst thing I did was create sketches of potential layouts I wanted to use for my design. I
created my f lier using Adobe InDesign after looking at my layouts to see which one I wanted
to use. I used black lines throughout the flier to show repetition. I wanted Graduate to stick
out because I thought that was the focal point of the f lier. I provided enough white space
throughout the f lier and tried to avoid trapping it.
