Student Assessment:
Students are expected to attend class, be critical as well as reflective and participate in class
discussion, complete the assignments, generate further discussion and dialogic questions,
and prepare written assignments (printed, using appropriate style, free of grammatical,
typographical and other errors). A superior paper is characterized by clarity, well thought as
well originality in ideas, well presented and organized, readable and easily understood. The
grade assigned will reflect an assessment of the quality and character of the work, and the
depth and breadth of the critical and reflective commentary.
Grades:
A
represents exceptional work that is clearly above expected guidelines. It is work that
has clearly defined, adequately supported purpose and sense of direction. It is a work that is
thought provoking and well stated. Care and articulation is evidenced in the development and
organization of ideas. In other words, it is a work that reflects a thorough understanding of
the educational topic under discussion.
B
represents expected level of work. It has a clearly defined and adequately supported
thesis/premise but lacks the clarity of insight that characterizes superior work.
C
represents below expected work. Frequently there is evidence of ill defined purpose
or objective, direction or relevance. Often, the ideas are presented incoherently as well as
jumpy from one topic to another without following through on the development of a unifying
idea or concept. Spelling as well as grammatical mistakes and other writing errors reflecting
poor organization are indicated in the presentation of the writings.
Each assignment is equally significant. Treat them seriously. Activities and tasks assigned
should be undertaken with the spirit of a professional educator. A well taken task requires
proper planning and effort. Plan your work and work you plan and dont delay.
